Sat Feb 4 201222:08Cardinals not expected to re-sign RB Taylor
The Cardinals are not expected to re-sign free agent Chester Taylor for 2012.
Taylor has not exceeded 4.0 yards a carry since the 2007 season, and the Cards will be welcoming back 2011 second-round pick Ryan Williams with open arms. Going on age 33, Taylor will generate scant interest on the open market.

Sun Sep 25 201119:52Chester Taylor goes for 20 yards on 8 carries
Chester Taylor rushed for 20 yards on eight carries in the Cardinals' Week 3 loss to Seattle.
He added a 12-yard catch. Taylor started the game, but quickly took a backseat to Alfonso Smith, who wasn't very productive but at least gave Arizona some threat of speed inside the tackles. No Cardinals running back is good enough for fantasy use or value behind starter Beanie Wells.

Sun Sep 18 201117:51Chester Taylor makes his ARZ debut
Making his Cardinals debut, Chester Taylor rushed one time for zero yards in Sunday's loss to the Redskins.
Taylor did not see the field until the third quarter when Beanie Wells was gassed after a long run. The veteran may eventually earn a third-down role, but he's not going to get a chance to carry the rock unless Wells goes down.

Mon Sep 12 201114:55Chester Taylor likely to be active in Week 2
Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt expects Chester Taylor to be a part of the offense in Week 2.
Still learning the Cardinals playbook, Taylor was inactive against the Panthers on Sunday. He could serve as Arizona's No. 2 back this week, however, as LaRod Stephens-Howling is dealing with both hand and biceps injuries. Barring injury to Beanie Wells, Taylor won't be worth owning in fantasy leagues this season.

Sun Sep 11 201114:50Chester Taylor scratched by Cardinals
Cardinals declared Chester Taylor inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Taylor has only been with the Cardinals for a week, so he's sitting this one out. LaRod Stephens-Howling will be the primary backup to Beanie Wells, who is set for a huge workload. John Skelton (ankle) is also inactive, leaving Rich Bartel as the No. 2 quarterback. Other Cardinals inactives: WR Stephen Williams, CB Michael Adams, OT D'Anthony Batiste, CB Korey Lindsey and TE Jim Dray.

Tue Sep 6 201118:06Chester Taylor might not suit up Week 1
Chester Taylor might not suit up for the season opener against the Cardinals.
Still learning the Cardinals' offense, Taylor is listed behind LaRod Stephens-Howling on the Week 1 depth chart. LSH and Alfonso Smith will likely be the backups to Beanie Wells against perhaps the league's softest run defense. Beanie is a top-15 fantasy back this week.

Sun Sep 4 201114:02Cardinals sign veteran RB Chester Taylor
Cardinals agreed to terms with RB Chester Taylor on a one-year contract.
Arizona was desperate for a third-down back who could also take over as the lead back should Beanie Wells go down with an injury. Whether Taylor still has the ability is as a 32-year-old coming off 2.4 yards per carry in 2010 is in serious doubt. He's no lock to take over passing-down duties from LaRod Stephens-Howling. Taylor is not a concern for Wells' fantasy value.

Sat Sep 3 201110:43Bears finally part ways with Chester Taylor
Bears released RB Chester Taylor.
So ends a bizarre six-day saga. Taylor appeared to have nothing left this preseason, rushing for just 37 yards on 16 carries. Exactly the opposite of what he needed to do after averaging an abysmal 2.4 yards per carry last season. Taylor was once one of the league's more polished third-down backs, but the odds are looking low that he'll be an asset for anybody this season.

Thu Sep 1 201121:47Chester Taylor starts, rushes for 27 yards
Chester Taylor rushed 10 times for just 27 yards against the Browns in the preseason finale.
A typical performance for Taylor, who was being showcased for a trade. Third-stringer Kahlil Bell left with an ankle injury, but it's hard to imagine that will save Taylor from the chopping block. Marion Barber (calf) did not play Thursday night.

Thu Sep 1 201112:01Taylor a possibility in Arizona?
Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers calls Chester Taylor an "intriguing name."
Somers is not reporting any known interest here, just connecting the dots. Taylor will be traded or cut by Saturday and the Cardinals are in need of a third-down back after losing Ryan Williams (knee). Taylor does not have enough left in the tank to threaten Beanie Wells for early-down work.

Thu Sep 1 201108:36Jensen: Taylor will be gone by the weekend
Beat writer Sean Jensen confirms that Chester Taylor will not be on the Bears roster after Saturday.
If the Bears can't find a trade partner, they'll release Taylor at final cuts. It'll be interesting to see if the Bears foolishly allow the 31-year-old back to play in tonight's preseason finale, but that shouldn't affect the outcome either way. Marion Barber is going to be the Bears' short-yardage specialist.

Tue Aug 30 201117:49Martz: Chester Taylor will play Thursday
Bears OC Mike Martz says Chester Taylor "absolutely" will play in Thursday's preseason finale.
We may have a bit of a showdown here between Martz and the front office. Taylor was believed to be hand-chosen by Martz in free agency last year. GM Jerry Angelo ought to step in and prevent Taylor from playing if he doesn't want to risk guaranteeing a portion of his $1.25 million salary.

Tue Aug 30 201109:15Report: Bears trying to trade Chester Taylor
The Bears are currently trying to trade Chester Taylor and will "most certainly" release him if they don't find a taker by Saturday, according to beat writer Brad Biggs.
Biggs confirms that Marion Barber has passed Taylor on the depth chart and the Bears don't want to pay the 31-year-old's $1.25 million salary this season. Teams like the Cardinals and Titans may be in the market for a running back, but Taylor's age and 2.4 yards per carry last season should be red flags. The most likely result is Taylor hitting the open market later this week.

Mon Aug 29 201116:17Bears give Chester Taylor the day off
The Bears gave Chester Taylor the day off from practice Monday as they continue to contemplate his future.
He's expected to practice on Tuesday, although Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune suspects Taylor won't play in the preseason finale for fear of injury. If the Bears were forced to place Taylor on injured reserve, they'd be on the hook for his $1.25 million base salary. We still suspect there's a good chance Taylor is cut, especially if the front office continues to push for it.

Mon Aug 29 201115:12Bears set to keep Chester Taylor, after all?
The Bears have asked Chester Taylor to return to their facility Monday after deciding to release him earlier in the day.
According to ESPN Chicago, the Bears' coaching staff wants to keep Taylor, while the front office is pulling for his release. It's not surprising that the veteran would be a coaching staff favorite for his ability to pick up the blitz, but Taylor offers nothing as a ball carrier going on age 32. The Bears are better off with Marion Barber behind Matt Forte. We'll update the outcome of this afternoon's meeting with Taylor once details are available.

Mon Aug 29 201112:08Bears part ways with Chester Taylor
Bears released RB Chester Taylor.
Taylor is 31, averaged 2.4 yards per carry last season and the Bears added Marion Barber as their power back. The ex-Viking even got outplayed by Kahlil Bell this preseason. We're skeptical that Taylor will ever be productive again, even as a backup. The Bears are kicking themselves for giving Taylor $7 million in guaranteed money when they signed him last offseason.

Sun Aug 28 201113:59Chester Taylor not likely to make roster
The Chicago Tribune suggests Chester Taylor will not be on the Bears' Week 1 roster.
Taylor didn't play a single snap Saturday, likely because the Bears didn't want to risk an injury that would guarantee a portion of his salary. The team would prefer to trade Taylor, but there isn't much of a market for a 31-year-old back coming off 2.4 yards per carry last season.

Sun Aug 28 201108:28Chester Taylor held out on Saturday
Chester Taylor was inactive for Saturday's preseason game.
"My running backs coach (Tim Spencer) told me after I came out for pregame that I wasn't playing," Taylor said. "He didn't give me no reason or no excuse or nothing." If the writing wasn't already on the wall for Taylor in Chicago, it is now. He's rushed for just 10 yards on six carries this preseason, and has been soundly outplayed by Kahlil Bell. His time in the Windy City is over.

Sun Aug 14 201119:35Chester Taylor a candidate for release
According to CSN Chicago's John "Moon" Mullin, Chester Taylor's future "does not appear to be in Chicago."
Taylor was not only outplayed by Marion Barber, but also Kahlil Bell (13-73) and Harvey Unga (9-27). Unlike Taylor, the latter two can contribute on special teams. By all accounts, Barber has looked stronger than Taylor since training camp kicked off. Turning 32 in September, Taylor may be done.

Sun Aug 14 201110:58Taylor invisible in preseason opener
Chester Taylor carried the ball three times for just three yards in the Bears' preseason opener on Saturday.
All three of Taylor's carries came in the first quarter. He picked a bad night to be invisible, as Marion Barber racked up 45 yards on only seven carries against a Bills run defense that was woeful in 2010. Barber's big numbers may have come against Buffalo's second string, but at this point it would be surprising if Taylor was not cut.
