Mon Jan 7 201317:31Seahawks bringing in kickers for workouts
Seahawks will work out free agent kickers Ryan Longwell and Neil Rackers this week.
Longwell, 38, has generated zero interest since being released by the Vikings in May after he made 22-of-28 attempts in 2011. Rackers, 36, lost the Redskins training camp battle to Billy Cundiff this season and hasn't played in 2012. Other kickers are expected to join the two in Seattle. Steven Hauschka is dealing with a calf injury.

Mon May 7 201217:58Vikings release K Longwell after six seasons
Vikings released K Ryan Longwell.
They'll move forward with sixth-round rookie Blair Walsh. Longwell, who turns 38 before the season, shanked 6-of-28 field-goal attempts last year in addition to one PAT. Opponents also had a lot of success returning kicks against the Vikings. It's still a questionable decision because Walsh went 21-for-35 on field goals as a college senior, connecting on just 54.8 percent of his attempts from beyond 30 yards. We suspect Longwell will find a new home quickly. The Vikings' kicking duties are on even shakier footing with the rookie Walsh.

Mon Apr 30 201216:37Ryan Longwell may lose his roster spot
Vikings K Ryan Longwell is in danger of losing his roster spot after the team used a sixth-round pick on K Blair Walsh.
Longwell carries a $1.75M salary after converting just 78.6 percent of his field-goal attempts in 2011. He turns 38 this fall. It should be noted that Walsh only connected on 21-of-35 field goals as a senior at Georgia, and went 17-for-31 from beyond 30 yards (54.8 percent). He should be guaranteed nothing.

Wed Jan 25 201211:35Longwell's job is safe for 2012
The Vikings aren't worried about Ryan Longwell after the 37-year-old kicker converted just 78.6 percent of his field goals in 2011.
"The ones you're concerned about are the ones that go a little bit left," explained special teams coordinator Mike Priefer. The Vikes attribute Longwell's down season to problems with the rest of the field-goal operation. With three years remaining on his contract, Longwell's job is safe.

Wed Jul 27 201119:06Vikings bring back kicker Ryan Longwell
Vikings agreed to terms with K Ryan Longwell on a multi-year contract.
Longwell isn't much of an asset on long distance field goals and kickoffs, but it's tough to beat his 93.5 percent mark on three-pointers the past two seasons. Turning 37 next month, Longwell should bounce back with a better fantasy season in 2011.

Thu Jun 30 201119:22Longwell 'intends' to re-sign with Vikes
Free agent Ryan Longwell's "full intention" is to re-sign with the Vikings as long as he receives a fair offer.
"It does seem like a really good fit," said Longwell. "I am a firm believer in the way Coach Frazier approaches coaching and life." Longwell had previously hinted that he was eager to test the market, but he may have had an epiphany of sorts during a recent vacation at a Christian family dude ranch in Estes Park, Colorado.

Fri Jun 17 201112:55Longwell open to signing elsewhere
Free agent Ryan Longwell "wouldn't mind" re-signing with the Vikings, but he's not ruling out other teams with a need at kicker.
Longwell has been one of the most accurate kickers in the league, converting 43-of-46 field goals the past two years. Turning 37 in August, Longwell is somewhat of a luxury on a non-contender because he no longer attempts kickoffs or even long field goals.

Thu Mar 24 201108:50Ryan Longwell loves NFL's new kickoff rules
Free agent K Ryan Longwell believes the NFL's new kickoff rules will serve to prolong his career.
"John Kasay ... put it best," said Longwell. "He's been trying to get to age 22 again all these years but he can't, so moving it up 5 yards certainly kind of does that." Longwell, 36, will have a job in the league because he's arguably the most accurate field goal kicker going. The new rule will increase his previously nonexistent ability to kick the ball out of the end zone.

Fri Aug 13 201012:32Longwell feeling good about his battery
Ryan Longwell expressed confidence in the fact that his snapper (Cullen Loeffler) and holder (Chris Kluwe) are in place once again this season.
Longwell is coming off a 26-for-28 season and has great continuity. As long as Brett Favre returns, Longwell will be among the most reliable fantasy kickers.

Tue Aug 3 201015:28Longwell spoke to Favre on Tuesday
Vikings K Ryan Longwell -- one of Brett Favre's best longtime pals -- revealed that he spoke to Favre on Tuesday and retirement talk never came up.
"I talked with Brett and haven't heard that," said Longwell. "He didn't tell me that. I don't know where the reports came from, but he certainly hasn't said that to me." Added Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network on Tuesday afternoon: "I still do not believe Brett Favre has thrown his last NFL pass."

Wed Jun 2 201023:56Longwell doesn't like losing KO duties
Vikings K Ryan Longwell indicated Wednesday that he is displeased with losing kickoff duties to new specialist Rhys Lloyd.
Unfortunately, it's best for the team. Lloyd is a touchback machine, while Longwell has never been effective in that capacity. Losing kickoff duties does reflect poorly as Longwell enters a contract year at age 36. We still love his fantasy prospects in the Metrodome with Brett Favre likely returning.
