Sun Nov 28 202113:42Corey Kluber Agrees With The Rays
Free-agent right-hander Corey Kluber agreed to a one-year deal, pending a physical, with the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, according to sources. The 35-year-old missed more than three months with a right shoulder strain before rejoining the New York Yankees in late August of the 2021 season. When he was available, Kluber was solid, though, posting a 3.83 ERA in 80 innings pitched, including a no-hitter. His experienced arm will complement young starters Shane McClanahan, Drew Rasmussen, Luis Patino and Shane Baz next season. If the deal is finalized, Kluber will make $8 million, with the chance to earn up to $13 million through incentives. If healthy, the three-time All-Star and two-time American League Cy Young winner could be a nice value in fantasy drafts.

Fri Oct 1 202110:42Corey Kluber Fails To Make It To Fifth Inning In No-Decision
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber put together a so-so effort in Thursday's no-decision against the Blue Jays. Kluber pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out a pair. He issued just one walk. While the numbers weren't great, Kluber encouragingly managed to generate 11 whiffs, with at least two of them on four different pitches. The veteran right-hander had just one win in September while pitching to a 4.37 ERA, though the underlying numbers suggest he's close to looking like the Kluber from earlier in the year.

Thu Sep 23 202111:32Corey Kluber Fails To Make It To Fifth Inning
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber didn't have his best stuff in Wednesday's no-decision against the Rangers. Kluber pitched just 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on a whopping eight hits. The veteran did exhibit solid control, striking out four batters with no walks issued. Most of Kluber's hits were allowed on two-strike counts, a frustrating occurrence for both him and his fantasy managers. However, Kluber's stuff appears to be there- he simply needs to locate better in those specific scenarios. He'll get a tough matchup in a big game against the Blue Jays his next time out, though he could be worth going back to, as he's no stranger to pitching in big games.

Sat Sep 18 202109:38Corey Kluber Spins Six Scoreless Frames In Win
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber delivered his best outing since returning from the injured list in a win over the Indians Friday. Pitching against his former team, Kluber tossed six shutout innings, allowing four hits and walking two while fanning four batters. The veteran righty had the swing-and-miss stuff working, as he induced 15 whiffs, 14 of them on his cutter and curveball. While fantasy managers would like to see more strikeouts, this was still a very encouraging outing by the Alabama native, who lowered his season ERA and WHIP to 3.68 and 1.28. He'll take on the Rangers next, who were no-hit by Kluber earlier this year.

Sun Sep 5 202117:50Corey Kluber Has Short Outing Sunday
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber turned in a short outing in Sunday's no-decision against the Orioles. Kluber lasted just 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He did strike out five batters, but his control was spotty, as he issued a trio of walks. The swing-and-miss stuff has been there for the veteran, as he has now fanned 11 batters over 7 2/3 innings of work since returning from the injured list, though he's still building up his stamina. Kluber should be on fantasy managers' radars simply for the strikeout ability, as another favorable matchup against the Mets awaits.

Tue Aug 31 202112:02Corey Kluber Allows Five Runs In Return
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber struggled in his return to the rotation Monday against the Angels. Kluber pitched just four innings, surrendering five runs on five hits while walking a pair of batters. On the plus side, the veteran right-hander did strike out six batters and generated a strong 34 percent CSW. Kluber got through three innings unscathed but ran up his pitch count in the fourth frame- and the Yankees clearly wanted to be careful with his workload coming off of subscapularis muscle strain in his right shoulder. This performance was far from encouraging, but Kluber was a solid fantasy contributor earlier in the year, pitching to a 3.61 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings pitched. He lines up to face the Orioles next, a matchup where fantasy managers should feel comfortable starting him, as he's racked up two wins while allowing just five runs in 12 2/3 innings.

Mon Aug 30 202112:58Corey Kluber Activated, Andrew Heaney Demoted To Bullpen
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber (shoulder) will be activated from the 60-day injured list on Monday and will start versus the Los Angeles Angels. Kluber has missed most of the season and has been sidelined since May 27 with a right shoulder strain. When healthy, Kluber was productive with a 4-3 record and 3.04 ERA in 10 starts. Managers may want to proceed with caution at first with the veteran, but he is worth scooping up in leagues that he was dropped in. With Kluber returning to the rotation, starting pitcher Andrew Heaney will be demoted to the bullpen in a long relief role.

Mon Aug 9 202119:05Corey Kluber Scheduled For First Rehab Start On Thursday
New York Yankees starting pitcher Corey Kluber (shoulder) is slated to make his first rehab start with Double-A Somerset on Thursday. Kluber was able to toss 42 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday, throwing his fastball, cutter, and slider without any problems- though the veteran hurler appeared to tire towards the end of the session. Given how long Kluber has been sidelined, he's likely to require several rehab starts, though a late-August, early-September return seems to be in the cards. The veteran righty was an effective fantasy starter for New York, pitching to a 3.04 ERA with a 25 percent strikeout rate in 53 1/3 innings.

Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

Sun Jul 25 202102:13LEADING OFF: More All-Star starters in Chisox-Brewers set
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ STAR STARTERS The White Sox and Brewers close a weekend full of impressive pitching matchups in Milwaukee with arguably the best of the bunch Sunday night. Lance Lynn (9-3, 1.94 ERA) starts for the White Sox against Brandon Woodruff (7-4, 2.04) in a duel of All-Star right-handers. The NL Central-leading Brewers started Freddy Peralta and Corbin Burnes earlier in this series, while the AL Central-leading White Sox turned to Lucas Giolito and Carlos Rodón. Of those six starting pitchers, Giolito is the only one who didn’t make the All-Star Game this season. According to STATS LLC, this is the first three-game series in major league history to feature five All-Star starting pitchers from the current season. “It’s exciting,” said injured Chicago catcher Yasmani Grandal, who worked with these Brewers pitchers while playing for Milwaukee in 2019. “That’s what you want to see — having two young teams having high-caliber guys coming in and... SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Across the globe, everybody is watching Shohei Ohtani in awe and intrigue. Major League Baseball can only love the attention from around the world surrounding the Angels' two-way star and the spotlight he's brought to the sport. Can Ohtani keep this up? Pitchers across the big leagues are doing their part so far, too. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season, matching the mark for most in one year during the modern era. The record of eight was set in 1884, the first season overhand pitching was allowed. Will Jacob deGrom, Walker Buehler and Gerrit Cole join the list soon? Mon Jul 5 202120:18Giants' Kevin Gausman allows first vs St. Louis hit in 7th
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco right-hander Kevin Gausman had his no-hit bid ended by St. Louis slugger Nolan Arenado's one-out single to left on Monday. Gausman — named an All-Star on Sunday — issued a one-out walk to Paul Goldschmidt in the first and didn’t allow another baserunner until Matt Carpenter walked with one out in the fifth. Gausman turned an inning-ending double play getting Harrison Bader to fly out and Carpenter was caught off first. Third baseman Wilmer Flores made a nifty diving stop of Edmundo Sosa’s hard grounder to start the sixth and fired to first to catch the speedy runner. Arenado's hit started a two-run rally in what had been a scoreless game. After Yadier Molina struck out, Tommy Edman singled before Carpenter's RBI triple. Gausman began the day with a 1.68 ERA, the lowest through 16 starts of any Giants pitcher since the team moved West in 1958. There have been seven no-hitters in the majors this season, matching the mark for most in a season since 1900.... [More]

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco right-hander Kevin Gausman hasn't allowed a hit through six innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, closing in on what would be the record-tying eighth no-hitter in the majors this season.
