Fri Apr 29 201109:34Jay Jackson could get the call for Monday
James Russell and Jay Jackson are the two most likely candidates to start for the Cubs the next time the No. 5 spot comes up, which will likely be Monday.
Russell has made the last three starts in the spot but has struggled mightily, giving up four runs in each outing while failing to pitch past the fourth inning. Jackson has posted a 2.31 ERA in his two starts for Triple-A Iowa this year but has struck out only five over 11 2/3 innings. He would certainly represent a more intriguing option than Russell, who the Cubs would like to return to the bullpen.

Tue Apr 20 201013:16Cubs prospect Jackson goes eight scoreless
Triple-A Iowa's Jay Jackson allowed just two hits over eight shutout innings to win Monday.
The 22-year-old Jackson has a 2.00 ERA after three turns. He's a possible third or fourth starter for the Cubs, and he might get a look at some point during the season if more injuries strike. We're guessing he won't be viewed as a possible bullpen fix, though. Fellow top prospect Andrew Cashner seems better suited to helping out in relief if the Cubs decide to go that route.
