Wed Nov 29 202300:47Dodgers "Among Most Aggressive" Teams For Dylan Cease
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday that more than a dozen teams have inquired about Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are "among the most aggressive." The Dodgers' current starting rotation contains some young, exciting players but is much shallower than it has been in some time. They also have a strong farm system, making them a seemingly suitable match to trade for 27-year-old Cease, who can be retained through salary arbitration for two more seasons. Cease took a step back in 2023, going 7-9 with a 4.58 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 27.3% strikeout rate over 33 starts and 177 innings pitched. However, he owns a 3.83 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 28.1% strikeout rate over the course of his career, and moving to any competitive team will boost his fantasy value.

Mon Nov 27 202313:52Braves In Talks For Dylan Cease
The Atlanta Braves have joined the Los Angeles Dodgers and several other teams that are engaged in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for ace Dylan Cease. The White Sox have made it very clear this offseason that they are willing to listen on trade talks for all of their players as they rebuild, and Cease has been one of the most popular names so far this winter. The 27-year-old right-hander saw his velocity decrease slightly in 2023 and he took a big step back from his excellent 2022 campaign when he went 14-8 with a 2.20 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Cease went 7-9 in 2023 with a 4.58 ERA (3.72 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, 79 walks and 214 strikeouts in 177 innings over 33 starts. He has cleared 200 K's in each of the last three seasons, though, and could bounce back to his 2022 level if he can throw more strikes.

Mon Nov 20 202322:22Dodgers Trying To Acquire Dylan Cease
The Los Angeles Dodgers are in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox in an attempt to land right-hander Dylan Cease. The Dodgers badly need pitching help this offseason, and the White Sox are trying to rebuild their roster. General manager Chris Getz straight up said the team is "willing to listen in on any of our players" this winter. The 27-year-old Cease took a big step back in his fifth big-league season with the Pale Hose in 2023, especially after a career-best 2.20 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 32 starts in 2022. In his 33 starts for Chicago this past season, Cease struggled to the tune of a 4.58 ERA (3.72 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, 79 walks and 214 strikeouts in 177 innings. He'd be much more attractive in LA's starting rotation, especially with his strikeout upside, but he needs to lower his walk rate to be less volatile as a fantasy commodity.

Sat Sep 23 202321:53Dylan Cease Strikes Out 11 Batters
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease put together one of his best outings of the season versus the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. The right-hander went seven scoreless innings while striking out a season-high 11 batters in the win. Cease did end up with the no-decision, but the White Sox won the game. This game marked the fourth time this season that Cease hasn't walked a batter during his entire outing. He has certainly been through hot and cold stretches throughout the season. He'll look to finish out the season on a strong note during his final start of the regular season next week.

Thu Jul 27 202314:12Dylan Cease Not Going Anywhere At Deadline
Chicago White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease will reportedly not get traded at this year's MLB trade deadline. The club dealt pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night and will almost certainly deal impending free agent Lance Lynn as well but Cease is apparently staying put. The 2022 AL Cy Young Award runner-up isn't having his best season with a 4.04 ERA across 21 starts but he also sports a 3.63 FIP, 3.93 SIERA, and a healthy 18.5% K-BB% across 113 2/3 innings of work. The White Sox have two more years of club control over Cease following the 2023 season as they hang onto their ace, at least for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.

Tue Jun 27 202300:50Dylan Cease Strikes Out 10 In Monday's No-Decision
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease turned in a strong start but came away with a no-decision in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Angels. Cease pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits (including a home run) and no walks with 10 strikeouts. The 27-year-old has been inconsistent this season but is currently in a hot stretch. He is now 3-3 with a 4.04 ERA, 10.84 K/9 rate, and 3.84 BB/9 rate in 17 starts. He will have a strong chance to keep his strong stretch going in his next start at the Athletics.

Sat Jun 3 202308:47Dylan Cease Looking To Rebound Saturday
Chicago White Sox starter Dylan Cease will try to bounce back on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers after a poor outing his last time out, which also came against Detroit. He allowed four runs over just four innings of work and is going into Saturday's game with a 4.88 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 24.2% strikeout rate. That's not what fantasy managers were expecting out of Cease, who finished second in the AL Cy Young voting a year ago. Fantasy managers would be wise to continue to start the 27-year-old and hope he can show some resemblance to the pitcher who posted a 2.20 ERA and 30.4% strikeout rate in 2022.

Sat May 13 202309:43Dylan Cease Has Work Cut Out To Get Right Versus Astros
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease battles the Houston Astros on Saturday. It's been a tale of two halves for 27-year-old thus far, yielding two runs or fewer for a 2.01 ERA across his first four starts. Over Cease's next four starts, he's allowed 20 earned runs, watching his ERA swell to 5.58. The right-hander is being crushed by a 53% hard-hit rate this year. Cease aims to curb his troubles against an Astros lineup that has yet to break out in 2023 (.367 team slugging percentage), but he is 0-3 with a shaky 5.13 ERA in 26.1 career innings against Houston. Cease is a contrarian DFS play and fantasy managers in season-long settings wouldn't be remiss to sit the struggling starter for this one, either.

Fri Mar 31 202312:15Dylan Cease Strikes Out 10 In No-Decision
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease was dominant on Opening Day on Thursday against the reigning World Series-champion Houston Astros. Cease picked up a no-decision while allowing only one run on two hits while walking none and striking out 10 in 6 1/3 innings for a quality start in the eventual 3-2 win. The 27-year-old right-hander missed plenty of bats and tied the franchise record for most strikeouts on Opening Day. It looks like he has picked up right where he left off in 2022, when he finished second in the American League Cy Young voting. Cease is a must-start in all fantasy formats when he's scheduled to start.

Wed Mar 15 202312:50Dylan Cease's Velocity On The Rise
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease topped out at 95 mph in his last Cactus League appearance, but he was sitting at 95-97 mph in his first inning of work on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics. His slider hasn't been very sharp, though, which led to him giving up two runs in his first inning of work. The 27-year-old right-hander has now allowed 11 hits and 13 runs (12 earned) while walking eight and striking out six in three Cactus League starts. He was much better last year with a 2.20 ERA over 184 innings, so fantasy managers should take his spring results with a grain of salt. With better command, Cease could once again be one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2023.

Fri Jan 13 202313:55Dylan Cease To Earn $5.7 Million In 2023
The Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Dylan Cease avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $5.7 million deal. Cease finished up his fourth season with the White Sox with a 14-8 record, career-low 2.20 ERA (3.10 FIP), 1.11 WHIP and 30.4 percent strikeout rate in a career-high 184 innings over 32 starts. The 27-year-old was among the league's elite starting pitchers last season, but he did walk a league-high 78 batters along the way. Cease finished up his regular season with quality starts in five of his last six outings and struck out a career-high 227 batters (one more than 2021). Needless to say, he'll be a pretty popular high-end fantasy starter in drafts this spring.

Sat Dec 10 202213:12Dylan Cease To Get $2.4 Million In Pre-Arbitration Bonus Pool
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease will take home over $2.4 million in the first-ever pre-arbitration bonus pool after finishing second in the American League Cy Young voting and sixth in Wins Above Replacement among qualified players, according to a source. The new collective bargaining agreement set aside $50 million for the top 100 players, according to MLB's WAR metric. Cease will earn an extra $707,425 due to his WAR ranking and $1.75 million for his second-place finish in Cy Young voting. Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez will make the second-most at $2,381,143 due to his top ranking in WAR and for finishing third in the AL MVP.

Sun Sep 4 202200:06Dylan Cease Falls Short Of No-Hitter
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease fell one out shy of a no-hitter on Saturday night as his team went on to a 13-0 victory over the Twins. The right-hander walked just two baserunners entering the ninth inning, but a Luis Arraez single to right field ended his bid at history. Cease still finished out the ballgame to complete the 103-pitch shutout, striking out seven batters in the performance. He now owns a superb 2.13 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 197 K through 156 IP on the year as he'll look to keep up his dominance in a road matchup versus Oakland next week.

Fri Aug 12 202214:43Dylan Cease Looks Sharp On Thursday
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease has put together an incredible stretch of play over the last few months. The 26-year-old went six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts during Thursday's loss to the Kansas City Royals. That performance marked the 11th start in a row that Cease has allowed one run or less. His ERA fell to 1.96 following Thursday's contest with 174 strikeouts through 23 starts. Fantasy managers who are lucky enough to have Cease should lean on him the rest of the way through the season.

Mon Aug 1 202215:52Dylan Cease Continues Sparkling Stretch
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease was once again outstanding on Sunday, throwing six innings of one-run ball on four hits and a walk. He struck out seven batters and improved his record on the year to 11-4 with the win over the Oakland Athletics. Cease has three consecutive quality starts and has not allowed more than one earned run in any of his last 12 outings. He has a 2.01 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 161 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings this season, placing him among the biggest breakouts of the fantasy season.

Sun Jul 17 202223:33Dylan Cease Limits Twins To One Hit
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease threw seven innings Sunday, giving up no runs on just a single hit and two walks to the Minnesota Twins in an 11-0 victory to pull the team within three games of the division lead at the All-Star break. Despite a string of dominant seasons for Cease, he has somehow still not been named to the All-Star team. With a 9-4 record, a 2.15 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 150 strikeouts in 104 2/3 innings, Cease should be recognized as being among the very top starting pitchers in the majors, and perhaps even moreso in fantasy baseball.

Tue Jul 12 202223:13Dylan Cease Continues Dominant Stretch
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease was customarily outstanding Tuesday, allowing no runs on five hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings against the Cleveland Guardians. He struck out nine batters and earned the win, improving his record to 8-4 on the year. Cease has now gone 10 straight starts without allowing more than one earned run. He has a 2.30 ERA and 1.24 WHIP on the season, with a whopping 142 strikeouts in 97 2/3 innings to lead all major-league starters in strikeout rate. Fantasy managers cannot ask for much more from Cease.

Sat Jun 4 202223:45Dylan Cease Struggles With Command
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease struggled to find the strike zone during Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The young righty has been fairly reliable this season, but unsurprisingly struggled with his command. On Saturday, Cease only went 4 2/3 innings due to the fact that he walked seven batters. He only allowed one hit and struck out five batters, but the walks were a huge problem for Cease. Fantasy managers are going to get outings like this from Cease, but usually he can be counted on. He'll look to get back on track against the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Fri Jun 3 202216:45Dylan Cease Activated From Restricted List
The Chicago White Sox activated right-handers Dylan Cease and Kendall Graveman from the restricted list on Friday and placed right-hander Vince Velasquez (groin) on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain in a corresponding move. The team also recalled right-hander Davis Martin from Triple-A Charlotte and sent right-handers Kyle Crick and Jimmy Lambert to Charlotte. Martin will start Friday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Cease was unavailable for the team's road trip to Toronto because he's unvaccinated, but he'll return for the weekend series against the Rays and is scheduled to start on Saturday. The 26-year-old right-hander has been solid this year with a 3.69 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 76 strikeouts and 23 walks in 53 2/3 innings over 10 starts.

Mon May 23 202214:17Dylan Cease Continues To Thrive In 2022
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease continues to thrive on the mound this season. After leading the league in strikeouts per nine frames with a 12.3% metric last season, Cease is again leading the league in the same metric, this time at 13.8%. He's also sporting a 3.09 ERA and a 2.16 FIP in 43.2 frames of work, to go along with 67 strikeouts and 17 walks. In his most recent outing, he limited the Kansas City Royals to seven hits and a pair of walks in 5.2 shutout innings while registering nine strikeouts. His next scheduled start will come Tuesday in Chicago against the Boston Red Sox. Fantasy managers will definitely want to start Cease for that one. Entering play on Monday, 15 different teams had a higher collective wRC+ than the Red Sox.
