Wed May 17 202322:34Alex Verdugo Removed As Precaution Wednesday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (groin) was removed from Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners as a precaution due to left-groin tightness. It doesn't sound like Verdugo's injury is very serious, but the Red Sox weren't taking any chances with one of their best hitters. Boston has an off day on Thursday, too, so the 27-year-old left-handed hitter could be back in action as soon as Friday. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Before leaving the game on Wednesday, Verdugo went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored and was replaced in right field by Raimel Tapia. Verdugo entered the game with a strong .303/.378/.491 slash line with 14 doubles, a triple, five home runs, 18 RBI, three steals and 35 runs scored in 42 games played for the BoSox.

Sat May 6 202316:46Alex Verdugo Returning On Saturday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (illness) is back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He has missed each of the last two games due to a non-COVID related illness. However, he's back playing right field and batting second versus lefty Bailey Falter on Saturday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Verdugo back in the lineup.

Fri May 5 202315:02Alex Verdugo Remains Out On Friday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (illness) is absent from the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The left-handed slugger missed Thursday's game as well due to a non-COVID related illness. This sounds like a day-to-day issue, so Verdugo should avoid a trip to the injured list. Raimel Tapia will leadoff and play right field versus right-hander Zack Wheeler on Friday. Fantasy managers should expect Verdugo to return within the next few days.

Tue May 2 202300:28Alex Verdugo Delivers Another Walk-Off Monday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo played the hero once again in Monday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays. Verdugo went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk-off solo home run off of Jordan Romano, and a stolen base. The 26-year-old has gotten off to a great start at the plate, slashing .311/.373/.508 with five HR, 18 RBI, and two stolen bases. He has always been a decent fantasy option, but his value would take a tick up if he can continue to deliver power in addition to batting average.

Sun Apr 30 202301:12Alex Verdugo Walks It Off
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo drove in the winning run to top the Cleveland Guardians by an 8-7 margin on Saturday. The Guardians took hold of the lead in the top of the 10th after Mike Zunino lined a single to left field, but Christian Arroyo knotted the game at seven with an RBI single of his own. Verdugo was then faced to bat against Emmanuel Clase with one out and eventually drove in Arroyo to win the game. In 2023, the 26-year-old is hitting .301/.363/.451 with a .814 OPS. He has been one of the most productive hitters in the Red Sox lineup and continues to put together an impressive season. The Arizona native also displays a 125 wRC+ and .358 wOBA.

Fri Mar 24 202319:11Alex Verdugo, Triston Casas Could Lead Off Against Righties
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo could share the leadoff duties with first baseman Triston Casas versus right-handers this season. Manager Alex Cora said that duo would platoon the spot with second baseman Christian Arroyo and outfielder Kike Hernandez, who could split leadoff duties against left-handers. Cora previously mentioned that Verdugo and Hernandez could run more this season, and leading off will also help them in the run department. Casas had a .358 on-base percentage in 27 games last season, so he also makes some sense as a leadoff hitter. It sounds like there will be some fluctuation, but leadoff is always an ideal spot to hit, especially with Rafael Devers in your lineup.

Sat Feb 18 202311:49Enrique Hernandez, Alex Verdugo Could Run More
The Boston Red Sox have finished among the bottom five teams in baseball in stolen bases the past two seasons, and manager Alex Cora would like to change that. The 2023 makeover of Boston's lineup will put more of an emphasis on contact, getting on base and baserunning. Last year, infielder Trevor Story led the team with only 13 steals. Cora named Enrique Hernandez and Alex Verdugo as players he thinks can steal more bases in 2023. Adalberto Mondesi, who is expected to miss Opening Day as he recovers from a torn ACL in his knee, is an elite speedster when healthy. Hernandez was 0-for-2 on stolen base attempts in 2022 and has just 13 in his nine-year career, so fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect much. Verdugo has just 15 steals in six big-league campaigns.

Thu Sep 29 202217:39Alex Verdugo Doubles During Thursday's Win
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored twice in Thursday's 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. It brought the 26-year-old's batting average to .285. Verdugo's pretty one-dimensional, though, as he has just 11 HRs and one stolen base with 72 runs and 74 RBI over 147 games. The former top prospect's still deserving of a starting job in most fantasy leagues and will contribute to batting average the rest of the way as the season comes to a close.

Fri Sep 2 202210:21Alex Verdugo Enjoying Eight-Game Hitting Streak
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo swung the bat well Thursday, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run, and three runs. The day extended his hitting streak to eight games and raised his batting average to .287. However, batting average is all fantasy managers get from Verdugo, as he's only slugged eight home runs, has 59 runs, 62 RBI, and one stolen base in 125 games. Those numbers are still relevant in standard leagues, but he probably belongs on the bench, especially if managers are looking for power.

Thu Jun 2 202215:51Alex Verdugo Adds Two Doubles Wednesday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo had a solid game Wednesday night against the Cincinnati Reds, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI. He now has 15 extra-base hits in 190 plate appearances this season. Verdugo's season line of .235/.273/.352 with three home runs leaves plenty to be desired, but he's slashed .333/.355/.500 with eight RBI over his last seven games, leaving hope for fantasy managers that those season-long numbers could tick up before long.

Fri May 27 202200:21Alex Verdugo Tallies Four Hits Thursday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo went 4-for-6 at the dish on Thursday night to help pace the offense to a 16-7 win over the White Sox. He swatted a pair of run-scoring doubles in the first and fifth inning, and later added an RBI single to give him three RBI and two runs scored on the evening. Verdugo has had a sluggish start to the 2022 campaign, but he's picked it up at the plate recently by going 9-for-19 over his last five games to give him a .232 BA for the year. His counting categories leave a little more to be desired as well with three homers, 21 RBI, and 16 runs through 41 games, but hopefully his recent surge gives him a lasting spark.

Sun May 22 202211:17Alex Verdugo Not Starting Sunday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (illness) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners. Verdugo left the game on Saturday with an illness and will take the day off on Sunday. With the Red Sox having an off day on Monday, fantasy managers will hope the 26-year-old can return on Tuesday for the series opener against the Chicago White Sox. Franchy Cordero is starting in left field and is batting sixth on Sunday against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert. Cordero is still searching for his first home run of the season, and he has only three RBI and 10 runs scored in 54 plate appearances for the BoSox on the season.

Sun May 15 202214:10Alex Verdugo To Play On Sunday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (foot) is back in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers. He exited early on Friday after fouling a ball off his foot. The X-rays came back negative, so it sounds like Verdugo has avoided major injury. The 25-year-old has been off to a slow start at the plate, but does have plenty of potential. He'll bat seventh and play left field versus lefty Martin Perez on Sunday. Fantasy managers can probably find a better streaming option than Verdugo on Sunday.

Sat May 14 202207:47X-Rays Negative On Alex Verdugo
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo (foot) underwent x-rays on his bruised right foot, which turned out to be negative. He exited Friday's game against the Rangers with a right-foot contusion. The 25-year-old went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored before leaving. He avoided a significant injury and is considered day-to-day. Fantasy managers should check back Saturday to see if Verdugo is in the lineup. Franchy Cordero would see an uptick in playing time while Verdugo is sidelined. Cordero isn't on the fantasy radar after slashing .200/.323/.280 across 31 plate appearances in 2022.

Thu May 5 202219:31Alex Verdugo Still Struggling
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo hasn't provided the numbers fantasy managers have hoped for so far and continued that in Thursday's 8-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He was 0-for-4 with a strikeout, and in his last 15 games, he's hitting .153. Across 25 contests overall, Verdugo's slashing .217/.255/.337 with three home runs, 13 RBI, five runs and no stolen bases. The 25-year-old once had a lot of potential as a member of the Dodgers organization, but besides the shortened 2020, hasn't lived up to it. Verdugo's a career .285 hitter, though his .779 OPS isn't as impressive. He should be able to turn things around batting average-wise, considering his 8.8% strikeout rate. However, he likely won't contribute much to home runs and stolen bases.

Fri Apr 15 202221:54Alex Verdugo Hits Second HR
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in an 8-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Verdugo's solo blast in the second inning was the only damage Boston hitters could do to Minnesota starter Joe Ryan. Verdugo is off to a fast start for Boston in 2022, hitting .292 with two homers, two runs, and five RBI across 24 at-bats. He should continue to post solid counting stats hitting in the middle of an explosive Red Sox lineup.

Tue Mar 22 202214:29Red Sox Avoid Arbitration With Alex Verdugo
The Boston Red Sox avoided salary arbitration with outfielder Alex Verdugo on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.55 million deal. Verdugo had a very solid year in his second season with Boston in 2021, slashing .289/.351/.426 with a career-high 13 home runs, 63 RBI, six steals and 88 runs scored in 604 plate appearances over 146 games. Because he doesn't have a ton of power or speed -- 31 home runs and 14 thefts in the last three years combined -- Verdugo is outside the top-40 fantasy outfielders. However, his value as an everyday player lies in his volume in a strong Red Sox lineup. The 25-year-old will be an excellent value selection if he's hitting near the top of Boston's order this year, although his struggles against lefties could be a problem.

Sat Oct 9 202121:00Alex Verdugo Homers, Has Three Hits In Comeback
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo slotted in fifth in the batting order in Friday's Game 2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, and he played a key part in the comeback win, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Verdugo has a 6-for-13 line with five RBI through his first three career playoff games. He also had three multi-hit affairs in his final six regular season games, so he could quietly be ready to go on a major tear.

Mon Oct 4 202113:34Alex Verdugo Doubles, Drives In Two Sunday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo had three hits in Sunday's season finale, smacking a double and driving in two runs in a 7-5 victory over the Washington Nationals. Verdugo finishes the season with a .778 OPS, 13 homers, six steals, 88 runs, and 63 RBI in 544 at-bats. He'll be a solid all-around fantasy value in 2022, even as his less flashy profile may allow him to slip down draft boards.

Fri Oct 1 202118:39Alex Verdugo Absent From Lineup On Friday
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo is not in the starting lineup for Friday's matchup against the Washington Nationals, according to MLB.com. Verdugo has been productive in 144 games, slashing .288/.351/.426 with 13 HRs, 88 runs, and six stolen bases. He's struggled mightily against left-handers this season, posting a .554 OPS, so he'll take a seat with left-hander Josh Rogers on the mound for the Nats. There's no designated hitter, which means J.D. Martinez will take Verdugo's spot in the outfield and bat fifth.
