Sun Aug 2 202023:47Judge homers twice to extend streak to 5 games, Yankees win
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge homered twice and drove in five runs, connecting for the fifth straight game and breaking an eighth-inning tie with a tape-measure shot that powered the New York Yankees past the Boston Red Sox 9-7 on Sunday night for their sixth consecutive victory. Luke Voit also went deep in a back-and forth slugfest to help the Yankees (7-1) finish a three-game sweep in the first series this season between the longtime rivals. New York has won six in a row and 11 of 12 against Boston since last July.DJ LeMahieu tied it 7 in the eighth with a two-out RBI single off Matt Barnes (0-1) past diving second baseman José Peraza. The clutch hit came after Mike Tauchman, who entered on defense in the seventh, walked and stole second.Judge then launched a no-doubt drive that landed several rows up in the raised bleachers beyond the left-center bullpen for his sixth home run already this year. The big slugger socked a three-run shot in the second, making him the first Yankees player... [More]

Sun Aug 2 202001:47Opposing brothers Scott, Tyler Heineman share special moment
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — They like to joke that Scott Heineman hits the home runs and his big brother brings him a little good luck then gets a front-row seat to watch him round the bases.Scott homered in the ninth inning for the Texas Rangers in a 7-3 loss to San Francisco as brother Tyler played catcher for the Giants.“I saw him after the game. We did a jersey swap, which was pretty cool," 27-year-old Scott said. "First thing he said to me was like, ‘Dude, unbelievable, 3 for 12 with three home runs.’ Maybe I got good fortune when he’s behind the plate.”Their father will be gifted the jerseys after making the request earlier in the day. “We just figured we would do something kind of special,” Tyler said. Before first pitch, the brothers walked out to home plate from opposite dugouts and represented the Rangers and Giants to confirm the lineup cards, then posed for a photo with the umpires.Hands on hips, they could only grin. Who would have thought this might happen? Not this year in interleague,... [More]

Tue Jul 14 202023:30Rangers C Chirinos could miss season start with ankle injury
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos could miss the start of the season because of an injured right ankle sustained in an intrasquad game.Manager Chris Woodward said Tuesday night that Chirinos was probably better than anticipated a day after getting hurt, but that it was still unclear how long the catcher would be out. The season opener is July 24 at home against Colorado.“Encouraging to see him walking around. Not a lot of swelling," Woodward said. “I guess we’ll take it day by day, but there is a slight chance he may be ready for the start of the season, or maybe down for the beginning of the year. But it is encouraging. It could have been a lot worse.”Chirinos was hurt Monday night when taking a throw at the plate, rolling his ankle when Scott Heineman hit it while sliding into the plate. Chirinos stayed seated on the ground for a few minutes before walking gingerly to the dugout.Chirinos returned to the Rangers as a free agent after one season away, spending... [More]
