Blue Jays activated RHP Sergio Santos from the 15-day disabled list.
No corresponding move has been announced yet, but it's possible that Brett Cecil will be heading to the disabled list. Santos should quickly work his way back into a setup role in front of closer Casey Janssen.

Sat Jun 7 201411:18Sergio Santos to throw bullpen on Sunday
Sergio Santos (forearm) is scheduled to throw one final bullpen session on Sunday, and if all goes well he'll head to Florida for a minor league rehab assignment.
As long as he continues to progress, Santos should be able to rejoin the Blue Jays bullpen in mid-June. With the current state of the bullpen, as long as he pitches well in his return, he could quickly regain his role as the primary setup man in front of closer Casey Janssen.

Thu Jun 5 201411:51Santos (forearm) throws 25-pitch 'pen session
Sergio Santos (forearm) felt great after throwing a 25-pitch bullpen session on Thursday morning.
Santos will throw another side session on Saturday and could then be cleared for a rehab assignment. He is on track to return to the Blue Jays' bullpen in mid-June. The right-hander has been out since May 11.

Tue Jun 3 201421:52Sergio Santos to throw off mound this week
Sergio Santos (forearm) hopes to throw two bullpen sessions this week.
Santos is hoping to throw on Friday and possibly again on Sunday before resuming his rehab assignment. The reliever had a setback with his forearm soreness last week but is evidently feeling better. He should return relatively soon as long as he can avoid further setbacks.

Wed May 28 201421:23Santos (forearm) suffers setback in recovery
Sergio Santos (forearm) recently suffered a setback in his recovery.
Santos had been progressing in his recovery from forearm soreness before he felt something in the forearm while throwing long toss from approximately 120 feet. "I wouldn't call it a big, big setback," Santos said. "When I got out to 110, stepping on it a little bit, didn't hurt, wasn't painful, just backing off for a day, resting and then throwing again. Good enough distance, playing catch, throwing. It felt fine, the ball was coming out good." He'll be shut down for a period of time before beginning to ramp up his throwing again. The setback probably costs Santos another few weeks at least, making late June look like the earliest he might be back.

Mon May 26 201416:51Santos (forearm) has resumed throwing
Sergio Santos (forearm) has thrown for the past three days.
Santos, out since earlier this month with forearm soreness, plans to throw again Monday from a distance of 80 feet. No word when he'll get back on the mound and he'll likely need multiple rehab appearances before coming back from the DL.

Tue May 20 201421:20Sergio Santos to resume throwing Friday
Sergio Santos (elbow) will resume throwing on Friday.
He'll need at least a couple bullpen sessions before going out on a rehab assignment. Santos seems likely to return in early June. "It won't be long," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He's going to start throwing the ball around when we get home. See where he's at. He said he's feeling good, I know that."

Fri May 16 201413:09Sergio Santos doesn't have structural damage
An MRI on Sergio Santos' right elbow revealed no structural damage.
The exam showed "normal wear and tear." Santos, who was placed on the disabled list last weekend, will be shut down for a week before resuming throwing on flat ground. "I do feel good," he said. "The soreness is now gone. It's been five-six days and with each day I'm feeling a lot better."

Sun May 11 201416:48Jays place Sergio Santos on disabled list
Blue Jays placed RHP Sergio Santos on the 15-day disabled list due to right forearm soreness.
With as bad as Santos has been this season, it's not a surprise that there was some type of injury situation going on here. He owns a 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 20/11 K/BB ratio through his first 12 frames on the season.

Sat May 3 201416:11Santos out, Loup in for Blue Jays closer role
Sergio Santos has been removed from Toronto's closer role.
Santos blew his third save of 2014 on Friday night, yielding three runs to the Pirates while recording only two outs. Aaron Loup will be used as the fill-in closer on Saturday and has a chance to run with the job until Casey Janssen (oblique) is activated.

Fri May 2 201422:35Sergio Santos blows yet another save Friday
Sergio Santos picked up his third blown save of the season on Friday, allowing three runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning against the Pirates.
Santos took over with a two-run advantage, and promptly allowed a leadoff single to Neil Walker on his first pitch. After striking out Andrew McCutchen, he served up a game-tying two-run homer to Pedro Alvarez. After inducing a fly out from Ike Davis, Starling Marte knocked one over the boards to deliver the Pirates a walkoff victory. It would be shocking to see Santos receive another save chance.

Sat Apr 19 201411:16Sergio Santos is unavailable on Saturday
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said closer Sergio Santos is unavailable for Saturday's game against the Indians.
After working on back-to-back nights, Santos will get a day to rest with Aaron Loup getting the call if a save opportunity were to present itself.

Fri Apr 18 201423:22Santos survives shaky ninth vs. Indians
Sergio Santos survived a shaky ninth inning to convert his fifth save of the season Friday night against the Indians.
Coming off one of the worst outings you could ever imagine Thursday against the Twins, Santos entered the bottom of the ninth inning Friday with a one-run lead. He allowed a leadoff double to Lonnie Chisenhall before striking out Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher. However, he then issued consecutive walks to Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana to load the bases. As opposed to Thursday night, he didn't implode this time, as he got Michael Brantley to ground out to first base to end it. It wasn't pretty, but it qualifies as a bounce-back outing. With Casey Janssen's setback, Santos should continue to get save chances for Toronto in the short-term.

Thu Apr 17 201423:24Sergio Santos completely loses it in eighth
Sergio Santos completely lost the strike zone after taking over in the eighth inning on Thursday, walking all three Twins he faced and taking his first blown save.
Unfortunately, the Blue Jays had already ran through all of their decent bullpen options when Santos imploded. As a result, J.A. Happ was brought in to try to stop the bleeding, yet he only made it worse, walking three batters of his own in what ended up being a six-run inning. Santos, for his part, never walked in a run. Instead, he threw three run-scoring wild pitches, which is a pretty amazing feat. Just four of his 16 pitches were strikes. Santos entered the game 4-for-4 in save chances and with three walks on the season, none in his last three appearances. Hopefully, this was just one big fluke. If not, then the Blue Jays will be forced to go to Steve Delabar and Aaron Loup in save chance.

Fri Apr 11 201421:47Santos notches fourth save of the season
Sergio Santos pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Orioles on Friday for his fourth save of the season.
He struck out two batters in the inning. Casey Janssen (abdomen) is inching closer to a return, but Santos has been pretty impressive early on and might have a chance to keep the closer gig, at least in the short-term.

Tue Apr 8 201422:12Santos saves the Jays' win against the Astros
Sergio Santos picked up his third save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Astros.
Santos worked a perfect ninth, striking out the side in the process. The right-hander is now up to eight strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. If Santos can tame his early control problems, he should be an adequate replacement for Casey Janssen.

Tue Apr 1 201423:04Santos struggles in ninth against the Rays
Sergio Santos wasn't sharp on Tuesday, struggling to close out the Blue Jays' 4-2 victory over the Rays.
Santos allowed one run on two hits and a walk, but was able to narrowly avoid trouble with the tying run on second base and end the game. Santos, recently named the closer with Casey Janssen ailing, did strike out three in the effort. Walks weren't much of an issue for him last season, as he finished with a 7/1 K/BB ratio and a 1.75 ERA, so one shaky outing shouldn't change his outlook.

Sun Mar 30 201416:35Sergio Santos to close while Janssen is out
Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed Sunday that Sergio Santos will serve as the team's closer while Casey Janssen is sidelined.
Fantasy owners who came up short on saves during drafts should rush to the waiver wire or rev up those FAAB engines, as Santos has the ability and opportunity to run away with this job. He posted a 1.75 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 28/4 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings with the Jays in 2013.

Fri Mar 14 201416:45Sergio Santos perfect for inning
Sergio Santos pitched a perfect inning Friday in his first Grapefruit League appearance in nine days.
It was just his second appearance overall. Santos has been dealing with intestinal problems this spring. If he's put that in the past now, then he might open the season as the Jays' closer with Casey Janssen questionable.

Sun Mar 2 201410:26Sergio Santos has intestinal issue
Sergio Santos won't appear in a game for the next four days after battling intestinal issues last week.
The illness caused Santos to lose eight pounds, so he needs to work on regaining his strength. The 30-year-old reliever will function as a setup man for the Blue Jays this season.
