Mon Jul 9 201200:36Jamey Carroll goes hitless in loss
Jamey Carroll went 0-for-4 and committed his sixth error in the loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
The big problem with Carroll's two-year, $6.75 million contract isn't the money; it's that the Twins keep playing him because of it. He's 1-for-22 this month and 2-for-32 since June 27. Tonight's zero put his OPS back under .600 for the season.

Wed May 2 201201:09Jamey Carroll goes hitless from ninth spot
Jamey Carroll went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts while batting ninth for the first time this season on Tuesday.
Alexi Casilla replaced the slumping Carroll in the second spot in the lineup, though that didn't do much good. Carroll may yet end up with an OBP worthy of a No. 2 hitter, but he's not going to excel in any fantasy category.

Sun Mar 11 201217:34Jamey Carroll now hitting .067
Jamey Carroll is 1-for-15 this spring after going hitless Sunday versus the Yankees.
The Twins probably won't let spring numbers alter their plan for hitting Carroll second and Alexi Casilla ninth initially. Castilla, though, has been far better so far, having started off 7-for-16.

Sat Jan 28 201218:39Twins endorse Carroll as starting shortstop
Jamey Carroll was officially endorsed by Twins manager Ron Gardenhire as his starting shortstop on Friday.
No surprise here. Carroll hit .290 with a .368 on-base percentage over the last two seasons with the Dodgers, and is expected to provide short-term stability to an otherwise uncertain middle infield situation.

Tue Nov 15 201121:40Twins finalize contract with Jamey Carroll
Twins signed SS Jamey Carroll to a two-year, $6.75 million contract.
The signing was made official when he passed a physical Tuesday in Minneapolis. Carroll, who turns 38 in February, is expected to take over as the Twins' starting shortstop next season. He has batted .290 with a .368 on-base percentage over the past two years with Los Angeles and is a solid defender, so the Twins are hoping he'll be able to provide some short-term stability to an uncertain middle infield situation.

Tue Nov 15 201113:08Carroll in Minnesota for physical
According to 1500ESPN.com's Phil Mackey, Jamey Carroll is in Minneapolis on Tuesday to take his physical.
The deal, which should be finalized Wednesday, is said to be worth $6.75 million over two years. Seen as a utility player by some, Carroll is set to start at shortstop on Opening Day for the Twins. The veteran batted .290/.359/.347 over 146 games with the Dodgers in 2011, and also compiled nearly 1,100 innings at shortstop over the past two seasons for Los Angeles.

Fri Nov 11 201116:10Twins, Jamey Carroll agree to two-year deal
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Twins and Jamey Carroll have agreed to a multi-year contract, pending a physical.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that it will be a two-year contract in the range of $7 million. Carroll, who turns 38 in February, is expected to take over as the starting shortstop for the Twins next season. The veteran infielder batted .290/.359/.347 and a .706 OPS over 146 games with the Dodgers in 2011. Hardly a terrible move for the Twins, but that's a lot of money to give to someone who could finally show his age at any moment.

The rumor mill has been hot Friday with various Carroll rumblings, and multiple sources have reported that he's close to signing with someone on a multi-year deal. Morosi reported earlier Friday that the Blue Jays were also in serious discussions for the veteran. It seems likely that he'll have a new home sometime over the weekend.

Fri Nov 11 201111:37Blue Jays 'very close' to deal with Carroll
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Blue Jays are "very close" to a deal with free agent infielder Jamey Carroll.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported earlier Friday that Carroll was close to netting a multi-year deal, and it sounds like the Blue Jays are the team that will give it to him. If Carroll does land in Toronto, he'd likely be in line to start at second base, which would end the chances of Kelly Johnson re-signing. It's possible, though, that Carroll could be used in a utility role.

Crasnick doesn't know who the deal is with but lists the Tigers, Rockies, Dodgers and Indians as Carroll's most fervent suitors. The the 37-year-old batted .290 with a .359 on-base percentage in 2011 and can play a variety of positions, though he's probably in a position where he can demand a starting job at shortstop or second base rather than serve in a utility role.

Mon Nov 7 201109:13Jamey Carroll open to signing Tigers
According to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News, the Tigers are on Jamey Carroll's list of desired landing spots.
"The Tigers are a great organization," Carroll's agent, Jonathan Maurer, said this weekend. "Right now, we're considering all clubs." Carroll turns 38 years of age before the start of the 2012 season and hasn't homered since 2009, but he batted .290 with a .359 on-base percentage in 2011 and can play a variety of positions. Sun Nov 6 201109:34Rockies interested in Jamey Carroll
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are interested in free agent Jamey Carroll.
Renck says Carroll is also interested in returning to Denver, where he played from 2006-07. He adds, though, that if the 37-year-old is looking for a deal similar to Omar Infante's (two years, $8 million), that might rule the Rockies out. Though he has no power whatsoever, Carroll is versatile and batted .291 and .290, respectively, over the last two seasons.

Wed Aug 31 201112:15Braves unlikely to acquire Jamey Carroll
Buster Olney of ESPN.com was told by a source that a potential deal between the Dodgers and Braves involving Jamey Carroll is "not happening."
The Braves have already acquired outfield Matt Diaz from the Pirates, but a "rival evaluator" says they are still working on more deals in advance of the waiver deadline. Olney floated Carroll as one possible trade target, but apparently that won't happen.

Thu Aug 25 201116:20Dodgers place Jamey Carroll on waivers
The Dodgers placed Jamey Carroll on waivers.
Carroll is sure to get claimed, but waiver trades are especially difficult to pull off and the Dodgers aren't exactly flush with infield depth. The 37-year-old utilityman has registered a .291 batting average, .360 on-base percentage and 18 extra-base hits in 378 at-bats this season.

Sat Jul 30 201115:13Report: Jamey Carroll staying put
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that if the Dodgers trade Rafael Furcal to the Cardinals as expected, Jamey Carroll will remain in L.A.
Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reported Friday that talks between the Dodgers and Indians, who had been showing the most interest in Carroll, had died, so he had appeared unlikely to go anywhere even before the Furcal trade. With Furcal gone, shortstop will be opened up for Dee Gordon.

Fri Jul 29 201123:22Dodgers talks about Carroll hit snag
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers' conversations about dealing Jamey Carroll have died.
The Indians are one of the teams that have shown interest in Carroll, but Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported earlier this evening that talks between the teams have "grown cold." While it appears that Carroll may very well stay put, Hernandez hears that there's still a "touch" of interest in shortstop Rafael Furcal.

Thu Jul 28 201111:47Indians maintain interest in Jamey Carroll
FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Indians continue to show interest in Jamey Carroll.
Of course, Carroll played with the Indians from 2008-2009 in a utility role, so there is some familiarity there. The Indians will likely face some stiff competition from the Brewers, who have a greater need in their infield at the moment.
