Mon May 2011:29Daniel Vogelbach Explodes With Three HitsDaniel Vogelbach1BMarinersFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach exploded with three hits in Sunday's win over the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays, homering, doubling, and singling with three runs scored. Having barely played for the Jays in 2024, Vogelbach came out nowhere with this effort after first tagging Rays right-hander Aaron Civale for a solo shot to get Toronto on the scoreboard in the second inning. Don't expect Sunday's performance to become a habit for the 31-year-old righty masher, who is still batting just .171 with a .594 OPS, the aforementioned homer, and four RBI over 41 at-bats, but with Justin Turner in a brutal slump, it could help him carve out a more consistent role at the DH spot going forward. Vogelbach is going to be hard-pressed for ABs when Joey Votto (ankle) eventually returns to the mix, though.

Sun May 1916:35Tommy Kahnle Could Return WednesdayTommy KahnleRPWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle (shoulder) could return to the majors on Wednesday, according to manager Aaron Boone. Kahnle made multiple relief appearances with Double-A Somerset over the weekend and did not allow a run in any outing. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since last season with shoulder inflammation, but he is finally nearing a return. Kahnle has been an effective bullpen piece throughout his career as evidenced by his 2.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB across 42 games last season. He is a decent option for managers in leagues that track holds as a scoring category.

Dane DunningFree Agent
Texas Rangers starting pitchers Nathan Eovaldi (groin) and Dane Dunning (shoulder) are both scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Assuming all goes well, Dunning may return to the Rangers' starting rotation at some point this week. The 29-year-old is a viable streaming option in the right matchups and owns a 4.10 ERA through seven starts in 2024. Eovaldi's return is a little more unclear as he continues to progress through his recovery. The 34-year-old is worthy of being stashed in the majority of formats as he was off to a strong start prior to the injury.

Sun May 1908:22Jorge Soler Collects Three Hits SaturdayJorge SolerLF/PH/RFRoyalsFree Agent
San Francisco Giants designated hitter Jorge Soler went 3-for-5 in Saturday's 14-4 win over the Rockies, including a pair of doubles. The slugger also drove in two runs and scored once. It's worth noting that Soler was penciled into the leadoff spot in both games since coming off the IL, and has gone 4-for-9 (.444) with a walk in those two contests. Shaking things up might just be what Soler needs, as it has been an underwhelming season so far, slashing .219/.308/.383 with five home runs, 10 RBI, and 16 runs scored over 146 plate appearances. He'll get a chance to make it a three-game hit streak on Sunday as the Giants face Dakota Hudson, who has an ugly 6.13 ERA on the season and Soler is 3-for-9 with a double and four walks against in his career.

Sat May 1812:21Tommy Kahnle Could Return Early Next WeekTommy KahnleRPWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Yankees right-hander Tommy Kahnle (shoulder) could return to the team's bullpen during their series against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium from May 20-23, according to manager Aaron Boone. Kahnle pitched in his second minor-league rehab game for Double-A Somerset on Thursday, striking out the side for a second straight outing. He's made four rehab appearances overall after making two appearances for Single-A Tampa. The 34-year-old reliever is scheduled to pitch again for Somerset on Saturday, at which point he'll be re-evaluated. Right-shoulder inflammation ended Kahnle's 2023 early and delayed his winter throwing program until Dec. 12, so the Yankees have been slow-playing him. When healthy, Kahnle can be a key bullpen piece for the Yanks. In 42 relief appearances in 2023, he posted a 2.66 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, two saves, 19 walks and 48 K's in 40 2/3 frames.

Fri May 1719:22Dane Dunning, Nathan Eovaldi Throwing Bullpen SessionsNathan EovaldiSPYankeesFree Agent
Dane DunningFree Agent
Texas Rangers right-handers Dane Dunning (shoulder) and Nathan Eovaldi (groin) were scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Friday. If all goes well with Dunning's bullpen, he could return from the injured list next week to pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies. Dunning was put on the 15-day injured list on May 8 with a strained right rotator cuff, but he also threw a bullpen on Tuesday and is approaching his return to the starting rotation. He's been up and down so far this year and would make for an extremely shaky streaming option without going on a minor-league rehab assignment if he faces the Phillies next week. Eovaldi's bullpen will mark his first time throwing off the mound since suffering a right-groin strain on May 3. The 34-year-old isn't going to come off the IL when eligible on Saturday, but the hard-throwing right-hander deserves to be stashed in all fantasy leagues after his strong start to 2024.

Fri May 1719:13Max Muncy Going On Injured List With Oblique StrainMax Muncy1B/2B/RFAthleticsFree Agent
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed third baseman Max Muncy (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right-oblique strain. Muncy didn't play the series opener on Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds, and now we know why. Given the nature of the injury and the fact that Muncy is on the wrong side of 30, he's almost certainly going to miss more than 10 days as he tries to recover from this injury. Muncy isn't helping fantasy teams at all with his batting average, but his power and run production make him worth stashing in all fantasy formats. He currently has nine home runs and 28 RBI in 167 plate appearances in 2024. The Dodgers called up infielder Miguel Vargas from the minors on Friday, and both he and Enrique Hernandez could share playing time at the hot corner for the next several weeks with Muncy out.

Fri May 1718:39Jorge Soler Officially Activated On FridayJorge SolerLF/PH/RFRoyalsFree Agent
San Francisco Giants outfielder Jorge Soler (shoulder) has been activated from the injured list on Friday. The slugging outfielder is back in the lineup after missing time due to a lingering shoulder issue. He'll serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff against right-hander Ryan Feltner on Friday. Soler has been off to a slow start this season but hopefully some time off helped him get back on track. Fantasy managers who have Soler rostered should make sure to get him back in their lineups on Friday.

Fri May 1717:15Mitch Garver Returns Against OriolesMitch GarverCTwinsFree Agent
Seattle Mariners catcher Mitch Garver (back) has returned to the starting lineup on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles and left-hander John Means, serving as the designated hitter while batting third in the order. The 33-year-old veteran backstop will return to action after being scratched from Tuesday's lineup with back spasms. He's gone hitless in only three career at-bats against Means and is slashing just .174/.287/.347 with five home runs, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored in 143 trips to the plate and 36 games in his first season in Seattle. Garver has picked things up in May, though, going 9-for-37 (.243) with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored in 11 games played. He's also been better against lefties than righties in 2024, making him a DFS sleeper at the position on Friday against Means.

Fri May 1714:53Nationals Reinstate Joey Gallo From Injured ListJoey Gallo3BRangersFree Agent
The Washington Nationals reinstated first baseman/outfielder designated hitter Joey Gallo (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned rookie infielder Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. It remains to be seen if Gallo will be included in Friday's starting lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Zack Wheeler. The 30-year-old left-handed slugger has recovered from a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder and should play mostly in right field or as the DH on most days against right-handed pitching for the Nats, at least until Lane Thomas (knee) returns from his injury. Gallo has elite power but struggles to make consistent contact at the plate. He's returning to a .122/.286/.311 slash line with three homers and five RBI in the 23 games he's played in this year.

Fri May 1712:34Miguel Andujar Drives In Three In First Rehab GameMiguel Andujar3BYankeesFree Agent
Oakland Athletics outfielder Miguel Andujar (knee) went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while serving as the designated hitter in his first minor-league rehab game for Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday evening. Andujar didn't play the entire game, but it was a good first test for the 29-year-old as he attempts to return from a knee injury that has sidelined him all year to this point. Andujar was swinging the bat well in spring training with the A's before injuring his knee, so it looks like he picked up where he left off. Because of the long layoff, the A's are going to make sure he gets enough at-bats in the minors before he makes his 2024 debut. Andujar's role with the A's is to be determined, but he could at least be worth considering in AL-only leagues.

Fri May 1700:55Jose Alvarado Blows Save ThursdayJosé AlvaradoSPRaysFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado had a tough outing on Thursday, blowing the save and taking the loss in a 6-5 defeat at the hands of the New York Mets. Alvarado allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out two. It was a tough situation for the lefty, who inherited the ghost runner in a one-run game. He had been rock solid of late, allowing just one run in his last eight innings pitched. Alvarado should still be the go-to guy for the Phillies, but don't expect him to always pitch in save situations as the team has shown the willingness to use him earlier in games.

Thu May 1618:26Max Muncy Not In Thursday’s LineupMax Muncy1B/2B/RFAthleticsFree Agent
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy is not in Thursday's lineup while the team goes against Cincinnati Reds southpaw Brent Suter. The 33-year-old has only made seven starts this season against left-handed pitchers. Muncy has been showcasing his elite power once again this season with nine long balls and a .475 SLG through 40 games. As a result, Kike Hernandez will occupy the hot corner. Hernandez enters Thursday's game with a modest .220/.278/.305 line with just two home runs. However, Hernandez will bat in the five-hole and is worth considering in DFS as he will be right in the middle of a potent Dodgers lineup. He will face Brent Suter, who enters Thursday with a 3.86 ERA; however, he is only likely to pitch a few frames as he will serve as the opener in a bullpen game for Cincinnati.

Thu May 1600:14Jorge Soler Likely To Be Activated FridayJorge SolerLF/PH/RFRoyalsFree Agent
San Francisco Giants designated hitter Jorge Soler (shoulder) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Soler is slated to play in two games in the minors and will likely be back with the Giants on Friday for the series opener against the division-rival Colorado Rockies if everything goes well there. Before hitting the injured list with a strained right shoulder, the 32-year-old slugger slashed a disappointing .202/.294/.361 with five homers, four doubles, and eight RBI through 119 at-bats (34 games) as San Fran's everyday DH. Despite those shortcomings, Soler would have a great opportunity to jump-start his season while facing off with a Rockies team that entered Wednesday's action ranked last in team ERA (5.16) and WHIP (1.53) in 2024.

Mitch GarverCTwinsFree Agent
Seattle Mariners catcher/designated hitter Mitch Garver (back) and second baseman Jorge Polanco (hamstring) are both out of the lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Garver was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to back spasms and will miss his second straight game. Polanco will also sit out for the second day in a row due to a tight right hamstring. Mitch Haniger is the DH and is hitting third on Wednesday, with Josh Rojas at second base and batting leadoff against Royals right-hander Alec Marsh. Luke Raley is in right field and is batting fifth. Fantasy managers should consider both Garver and Polanco day-to-day and check back to see if they are back in the lineup on Friday for the series opener against the Orioles in Baltimore. Rojas doesn't have much power but has been swinging a hot bat this year with a .333 average (36-for-108) with three homers, eight RBI and four stolen bases.

Wed May 1500:54Mitch Garver Dealing With Back SpasmsMitch GarverCTwinsFree Agent
Seattle Mariners catcher/designated hitter Mitch Garver (back) was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Royals with spasms in his upper back and trapezius area, per Seattle Times' Ryan Divish. The 33-year-old did miss some time earlier this season with back spasms, although it was reported that his current spasms are unrelated. Garver, who has struggled offensively with a .174/.287/.347 slash line in 143 plate appearances, should be considered day-to-day unless the team releases further news.

Tue May 1423:02Matt Olson Slugs Home Run, Drives In Four Runs On TuesdayMatt Olson1BAthleticsFree Agent
Atlanta Braves first basemanMatt Olson finished Tuesday night 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, a walk, and a run scored in the Braves 7-0 win against the Chicago Cubs. It was Olson's fifth home run of the season and only his second home run in May. Coming back down to earth in 2024 was expected for the lefty slugger after producing career-high numbers in home runs, RBI, and batting average in 2023. He's currently on pace for only 20 HR and a .218 batting average after hitting 54 HR with a .283 batting average in 2023. It's not quite the encore season fantasy managers were hoping for out of the power-hitting first baseman. Olson has produced two homers in his last five games, which hopefully means he has found the power stroke to turn his season around.

Tue May 1421:13Mitch Garver Scratched From Tuesday's LineupMitch GarverCTwinsFree Agent
Seattle Mariners designated hitter Mitch Garver (undisclosed) has been scratched from Tuesday's lineup versus the visiting Kansas City Royals. There's no word yet from the M's on the status of Garver, who was initially batting third as the DH on Tuesday against the Royals. Consider him day-to-day until more information comes to light ahead of Wednesday's series finale. Mitch Haniger is now functioning as the DH and batting sixth against right-hander Michael Wacha, with Sam Haggerty entering the lineup and parking in left field to hit ninth. Ty France is set up as the biggest fantasy beneficiary of Garver's absence, as he's moved up to the third spot in the lineup and has gone 9-for-15 with five doubles and two RBI in 15 plate appearances against Wacha in his career.

Tue May 1420:14Jorge Soler Hit In Head During Batting PracticeJorge SolerLF/PH/RFRoyalsFree Agent
San Francisco Giants outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler (head, shoulder), who was hitting on the field on Tuesday for the first time since going on the injured list, fouled a ball off the top pipe of the batting cage that ricocheted and hit him in the head. Soler walked off the field with a trainer and could undergo testing for a concussion if his injury is serious enough. At the very least, this incident could cause the Giants to pause the 32-year-old veteran slugger's rehab from a shoulder injury. The Cuban right-handed hitter will return to a regular role in the Giants' lineup between outfield and the DH spot when he's healthy enough to return from the injured list. His elite power alone makes him worth stashing in most fantasy leagues. Before getting hurt, Soler was hitting .202 (24-for-119) with five homers and eight RBI in his first 34 games with the Gigantes.

Tue May 1416:40Gio Urshela Back From Injured List And Starting TuesdayGio Urshela3BIndiansFree Agent
The Detroit Tigers reinstated infielder Gio Urshela (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder Akil Baddoo to Triple-A Toledo after Monday night's game in a corresponding move. Urshela is starting at third base and batting sixth for the Tigers in his first game back on Tuesday against the visiting Miami Marlins and left-hander Ryan Weathers. Urshela has never faced Weathers in his career but was hitting .298/.310/.333 with no homers and six RBI in 57 at-bats before landing on the injured list on April 20 with a strained hamstring. The 32-year-old should return to see most of the playing time at third base in Detroit, making him useful in some deep-mixed leagues. Urshela went 5-for-8 with an RBI and two runs in three minor-league rehab games. He doesn't have a ton of power but makes plenty of contact.
