RHP Ryan Kelly was released by the Braves on Saturday. He had no decisions and a 7.02 ERA in 17 relief appearances for Atlanta last year. Kelly, 28, went a combined 4-2 with 23 saves and a 0.77 ERA in 41 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A in 2015.

Kelly was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 Sports Radio reports.

Kelly's short stint with the Braves wasn't overly impressive, allowing six earned urns in 6.1 innings. However, his time with Triple-A Gwinnett was much better, posting a 0.95 ERA and 0.68 WHIP with 30 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. He'll get another shot with the big league club now, and could stick with the team the rest of the way with the expanded rosters on tap.

The Braves optioned Kelly to Triple-A Gwinnett following Wednesday's game.

Kelly allowed at least one earned run in three of his four appearances after being recalled earlier this month, so the Braves decided to send him back to Gwinnett and give someone else a spot on the big league roster. The club has yet to announce who exactly will take Kelly's place.

Jason Frasor was placed on the DL with a shoulder strain Tuesday, so Kelly will return from Triple-A to assume his roster spot. Kelly, who was optioned just a week ago, has bounced back and forth between the Braves and Triple-A for most of the season.

Despite just being called up Thursday and not appearing in Thursday night's game against the Phillies, the Braves decided to send Kelly back to the minors. He has already been up and down from the minors several times this year, so he could be an option for the big club again later this season.

Kelly will provide the Braves with another arm out of the bullpen following a trade that sent multiple arms elsewhere. It's unclear how long his stay will be, but the Braves are now officially sellers, so they may see what they've got with him moving forward.

With Andrew McKirahan coming back from an 80-game PED suspension, Kelly will head back to Gwinnett after spending just a few days with the big league club. Kelly appeared in two games for the Braves over the weekend, tossing one scoreless inning Friday and allowing two runs (one earned) in two-thirds of an inning in Saturday's loss to the Cubs.

Kelly's first stint with the Braves ended abruptly after he pitched just one inning, allowing one run on two hits before being optioned back to Gwinnett. It seems likely that the stint will last a little longer this time around, and he'll provide the bullpen with another arm.

Kelly was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett Wednesday.

Kelly pitched one inning on Tuesday, allowing one run and two hits. He struck out one batter. It is unclear when Kelly will return to the Braves.

Kelly's contract was officially purchased by the Braves in advance of Sunday's game, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.

The 27-year-old has spent time at both Double-A and Triple-A this season, posting a cumulative 1.15 ERA in 31.1 innings. In 10 Triple-A appearances, Kelly is 1-1, allowing only three earned runs over 12.2 innings. Sugar Ray Marimon was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday in a corresponding move.

Kelly's contract will be bought out from Triple-A Gwinnett, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
