Newton (back) split reps with Derek Anderson in practice Wednesday, Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports. Afterward, coach Ron Rivera told NFL Network, "I like what I saw. Tomorrow will be a big day, especially in AM, to see where he is."
Newton's return to practice is an encouraging sign for his Week 16 availability, which will be confirmed, one way or another, by Rivera on Friday, when he'll confirm the Panthers' starting quarterback, according to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. As a result, interested parties should tune in after the final practice of the week to learn if Newton will in fact be under center Sunday against the Browns.
Wed Dec 17 201413:34Cam Newton: (Back) Returns To Practice Wednesday
Newton (back) returned to practice Wednesday, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Newton made his first appearance since sustaining two transverse process fractures to his lower back last Tuesday. Although he yielded a majority of the first-team reps to Derek Anderson in the portion of practice open to the media, Newton didn't appear particularly limited. As the week continues, Newton will seemingly be given every opportunity to establish his health in advance of Sunday's game against the Browns.

Head coach Ron Rivera said Sunday that he will not make a decision about Newton's (back) status for Week 16 against the Browns until he sees him in practice Monday and Wednesday, ESPN.com reports.
Newton has held out of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers after suffering two transverse process fractures in his back during a car accident Tuesday, though there was a light expectation that he would be able to return in Week 16 because Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo took only one game off after suffering a similar injury in a game. If Newton is unable to play, Derek Anderson who started against the Bucs, would be under center again.

The Panthers are optimistic that Newton, who is inactive for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers after suffering a back injury in a car crash earlier this week, will play next week against the Browns, NFL.com reports.
Despite their 4-8-1 record, the Panthers are still in the thick of the NFC South race, and Newton wants to get back on the field as quickly as possible. Tony Romo missed just one game with a similar ailment this season, though the circumstances surrounding Newton's injury are obviously much more traumatic. We'll be tracking his status closely in the days leading up to Week 16.
Wed Dec 10 201414:07Cam Newton: (Back) Will Not Play This Week
Newton (back) will not play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Newton is just a day removed from breaking two bones in his back in a car accident, so he will not be available this week. Head coach Ron Rivera announced Wednesday that Derek Anderson will start at quarterback for the Panthers in Week 15.

Newton (lower back) -- who was involved in a car accident Tuesday -- was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Newton -- who suffered two transverse process fractures to his lower back Tuesday -- is suffering from soreness, but the report relays that the QB did not sustain additional injuries apart from his back issue. At this stage, Newton is considered day-to-day, but it seems unlikely that he will be available Sunday against the Bucs. Per ESPN.com, Derek Anderson took first-team QB snaps in practice on Wednesday, backed up by Joe Webb.

Newton (back) is unlikely to play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, after suffering two fractures in his back during a car accident Tuesday, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Newton was involved in a scary two-car crash Tuesday afternoon, when his truck reportedly overturned several times on a road near the Panthers' stadium. After being transported via ambulance to a local hospital, Newton was revealed to have suffered two transverse process fractures to his lower back. As a result, the Panthers' signal-caller is likely to miss this weekend's game versus Tampa Bay, which would allow Derek Anderson to make his second start of the campaign. Coincidentally, Anderson's lone other start came in Week 1 against the Buccaneers, when Newton was slowed by a ribs ailment. For context regarding Newton's latest health concern, Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo suffered the same back injury earlier this season and missed one game due to the problem.
Tue Dec 9 201415:53Cam Newton: Diagnosed With Lower Back Fracture
Further testing done on Newton revealed that he suffered two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries in a car accident Tuesday.
This report differs from others that indicated Newton avoided any injuries in Tuesday's accident, and it leaves some doubt about his status moving forward. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo sat out a game with a similar injury earlier this season, so it's possible Newton could miss some action as a result of his injuries, particularly with Carolina's next game just five days away.
Tue Dec 9 201414:46Cam Newton: Listed In Fair Condition
The Panthers announced that Newton is in fair condition following a car accident Tuesday afternoon. He is undergoing test at a local hospital and will remain there overnight for observation.
No other details were provided by the team, but ESPN's Ed Werder reports that preliminary tests indicated Newton suffered no fractures or other serious injuries, and only scrapes and bruises. Newton will not be totally in the clear health-wise until he is released from the hospital, but based on the news that has come out since his accident, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about his status moving forward.
Tue Dec 9 201413:33Cam Newton: Not Injured In Car Accident
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Newton did not suffer any injuries despite being involved in a car accident Tuesday, Steve Crump of WBTV Charlotte reports.
Newton was taken away from the scene of Tuesday's wreck in an ambulance, but the report notes that he did not want to be transported, and was taken to a local hospital only as a precaution. In addition, this photo, via The Charlotte Observer, shows that Newton was conscious and in good spirits following Tuesday's accident. Fortunately it appears he avoided what could have been a potentially serious situation.
Tue Dec 9 201413:06Cam Newton: Involved In Car Accident Tuesday
Newton was injured in a car accident Tuesday afternoon, the Charlotte Observer reports.
The extent of Newton's injuries is not certain, but he was taken away from the scene in an ambulance after being placed on a stretcher. Expect an update on Newton's status as more details become available.

Newton completed 21-of-33 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing 12 times for 83 yards and another score during Sunday's 41-10 rout of the Saints in New Orleans.
Newton was absolutely unstoppable Sunday, connecting with eight different receivers, including touchdown passes to tight end Greg Olsen, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and running back Fozzy Whittaker. It was Newton's first three-touchdown performance of the season and his second-highest rushing total. Up next is a Week 15 matchup against the Bucs, who Newton was unable to play against back in Week 1 because of a rib injury.

Newton completed 18-of-35 passes for 194 yards, with one touchdown and one interception during Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Vikings, while also adding 49 rushing yards on nine carries.
A brutal game for Newton, who failed to complete 60 percent of his passes for the sixth time this season. He also ended a two-game streak of passing for two touchdowns, though he had six turnovers in that span. Making matters worse, up next is a Week 14 matchup against the Saints, who Newton threw for only 151 yards against in Week 9, completing just 10 of his 28 passes, while throwing one interception and losing one fumble.

Newton completed 23-of-37 passes for 292 yards, with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Falcons.
Newton played poorly through three quarters, leading Carolina to just three points, but turned things around late, tossing both of his touchdowns in the fourth period. He had the ball with no timeouts in the closing seconds, and completed a couple of passes to set up the potential game-winning field goal, but the long kick was blocked. He looked gimpy again at several points Sunday, so next week's bye comes at a good time for him and the Panthers.

Newton completed 25-of-40 passes for 306 yards, with two touchdowns, three interceptions and a lost fumble in Monday's 45-21 loss to the Eagles. He gained six yards on just two carries.
Newton and the Carolina offensive line were both terrible, and Newton even looked a bit gimpy. He's seemingly still bothered by his surgically-repaired ankle, or else another lower-body injury. He was sacked nine times in Monday's game, and while the offensive line was largely responsible, Newton did a poor job of navigating the pocket. There weren't many positives until garbage time, when Newton connected with Kelvin Benjamin for touchdowns of 20 and 40 yards on consecutive possessions. The Panthers oddly left their starters in for the entire game, even with Newton appearing to be a bit limited in his mobility. Though largely a disaster in recent weeks, the Carolina offense does draw a fantastic matchup with the Falcons in Week 11.

Newton rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in Thursday's 28-10 loss to the Saints, but he completed just 10-of-28 passes for 151 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception.
The interception wasn't at all Newton's fault, as the ball bounced off the hands of an open Brenton Bersin in the second quarter. However, the quarterback later lost a fumble inside his own five-yard line while scrambling around on a 3rd-and-9. It was just one of Newton's many mistakes, as he misfired on countless passes, often overthrowing his receivers. Per usual, he didn't get much help from the players around him, with the offensive line and Kelvin Benjamin both struggling, while Greg Olsen surprisingly only drew four targets. The Newton-to-Benjamin connection has been especially frustrating this season, as their respectable statistics could be far better if not for a slew of missed opportunities. There were two near-touchdowns on deep slants during Thursday's game, but Benjamin dropped the first on a ball that could have been thrown better, and Newton sailed the second too high. The only thing that really worked for Carolina was Newton's scrambling, which was a complete non-factor against Seattle on Sunday. While Newton's 43 carries over the last four games are perhaps encouraging for fantasy owners, the wheels seem to be completely coming off for a Carolina offense that was shaky early in the season. Newton is trying to carry a weak group, and his passing hasn't been nearly good enough to do that over the last three games.

Newton finished Sunday's loss to the Seahawks with 171 yards and one interception on 12-of-22 passing. He also had 12 carries for 24 yards and one lost fumble.
Newton struggled against the Seahawks' stingy defense, setting season-lows in completions, attempts and passing yards Sunday. Additionally, Newton's streak of 14 straight games with at least one touchdown pass was snapped. The Panthers' signal-caller also threw an interception for the fourth straight game and fumbled an exchange to deny Carolina a scoring opportunity. Overall, Newton experienced a rough outing that he'll look to rebound from this Thursday against the division-rival Saints.

Newton completed 17-of-31 passes for 205 yards, one interception and one touchdown in Sunday's blowout loss to the Packers. He also added 41 rushing yards on seven carries.
Newton's performance was fairly modest Sunday, especially when compared to last weekend's breakout display of over 375 total yards. The Panthers' signal-caller's 205 passing yards represented his second-lowest mark of this season, but with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass Sunday, Newton continued his streak of 14 straight games with a throwing score. Additionally, his 41 rushing yards landed in the range that Newton averaged on the ground through his first three seasons, evidencing his return to health. Looking ahead, Newton faces a banged-up Seahawks' secondary at home in Week 8.

Newton connected on 29-of-46 passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's overtime tie with the Bengals. He also led the Panthers with a career-high 17 rushes for 107 yards and another score.
Newton was sensational Sunday, as his 29 completions and 284 passing yards both set season-highs. However, most notably, in light of an ineffective running back committee, the Panthers brought back the zone-read Sunday. That allowed Newton to remind fantasy owners of his dynamic dual threat ability, as he topped the 100-yard mark on the ground and also scored his first rushing touchdown in nine games. In doing so, Newton showed no limitations from his March ankle surgery, which along with an earlier ribs ailment, capped Newton to just 42 rushing yards before Sunday's breakthrough. Overall, Newton enjoyed by far his best performance of 2014 and his return to running the ball serves as an especially intriguing development for fantasy owners.

Newton completed 19-of-35 passes for 255 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Bears.
Newton also added nine rushing yards on six carries. The Panthers' quarterback wasn't particularly accurate Sunday, but his average of over 13 yards per completion helped the Carolina move the chains, as 15 of the team's 22 first-downs came via the air. Additionally, Sunday marked Newton's first multi-touchdown game of this season, although his interception went with a lost fumble to account for multiple turnovers as well. Through his first four games, Newton has rushed for only 42 yards, evidencing the impact his offseason ankle surgery and preseason ribs injury has had on the Panthers' play-calling. Without being a dynamic dual-threat thus far, Newton's fantasy production has been somewhat limited compared to years past. Furthermore, a tough matchup at the Bengals looms in Week 6.
