Fri Jul 5 201311:03Leach won't have new home before Sunday
Free agent FB Vonta Leach isn't expected to make a decision before Sunday.
That's at the "earliest." Leach is perhaps the top free agent remaining on the open market, but that's not saying much on July 5. Still a battering ram of a lead blocker, Leach would be a solid addition for first-year starter Lamar Miller in Miami.

Thu Jun 27 201315:00Leach expected to pick a team next week
Free agent FB Vonta Leach is expected to sign with a team next week.
The Dolphins currently "lead the pack," but there are up to four other teams at least in the running -- the Giants, Texans, Ravens, and Chiefs. Both Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and GM Jeff Ireland are out of the country on separate vacations, and they've only merely exchanged text messages with Leach's agent. Miami has the most salary cap space of the teams mentioned.

The dialogue between the Dolphins and free agent FB Vonta Leach is continuing Wednesday.

Tue Jun 25 201323:17Leach's rep: He'll likely sign with Dolphins
Free agent FB Vonta Leach's player rep expects him to sign with the Dolphins, but says he might take one more visit.
"It's the right place to be," Leach's rep said of Miami. "We're trying to crunch the numbers." The Dolphins badly want Leach to pave the way for new starting running back Lamar Miller, and Leach's rep has certainly noticed GM Jeff Ireland's tendency to cave and give players what they want in negotiations. Leach should be a Dolphin soon enough.

Mon Jun 24 201320:27'Major upset' if Vonta Leach isn't a Dolphin
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it will be a "major upset" if free agent FB Vonta Leach doesn't sign with the Dolphins.
"[The] Dolphins want him too much," added Schefter. Miami has been the most logical fit for the 31-year-old, but money is going to be the deciding factor in the end. If we've learned anything this offseason, it's that Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland isn't afraid to shell out the cash for a player he feels he needs. Talks between the two sides were reportedly "heating up" last Friday, but they cooled a bit over the weekend as the Giants jumped into the fray. Leach said on Monday that he's in "no rush" to sign, so this could drag out for a few days.

Mon Jun 24 201314:14Vonta Leach in 'no rush' to choose new team
Free agent FB Vonta Leach told Sirius XM Radio on Monday that he's in no rush to sign with a team.
A Friday report from ESPN claimed Leach would sign "early (this) week," but that may not happen. "We're keeping all our options open," said Leach, 31. "There's really not a rush for anything right now because you can't do nothing on the football field. As long as we're in somebody's camp, I'll be all right." Leach has drawn interest from the Texans, Dolphins, Giants, and Ravens.

Sun Jun 23 201313:52Ravens not ruling out re-signing Vonta Leach
The Ravens are still "quietly monitoring" the availability of free agent FB Vonta Leach.
In other words, they haven't completely ruled out re-signing him. The Baltimore Sun concedes the Dolphins "appear to the the front-runner" to land Leach, but he probably would have already signed with them had Miami's offer knocked off Leach's socks. Before releasing Leach on June 11, the Ravens proposed the Pro Bowler a one-year, $2 million contract "loaded with incentives."

Sat Jun 22 201317:41Report: Giants pondering free agent FB Leach
The New York Daily News reports the Giants are "pondering a last-ditch effort" to sign free agent FB Vonta Leach.
Leach's agent mentioned the Giants as a team that was interested in his client following his release from the Ravens last week, but this is the first time we've seen it from a credible news source. New York is "worried" about the status of in-house FB Henry Hynoski (knee), and it is prepared to up its offer. Leach is expected to make a decision on his next team "early next week."

Fri Jun 21 201316:12Vonta Leach expected to sign 'early next wk'
ESPN's John Clayton reports free agent FB Vonta Leach is expected to sign with a team "early next week."
Interestingly, Clayton says Leach is drawing pursuit from two teams "other than" the Texans and Dolphins, the latter of whom are known suitors. We still expect Leach to choose between Houston and Miami. The Fins are the probable front-runners due to Leach's ties to Mike Sherman and Joe Philbin, and Miami's ample salary cap space. The Texans are much tighter up against the cap.

Fri Jun 21 201310:24Report: Dolphins, Leach talks heating up
The Miami Herald reports talks between the Dolphins and free agent FB Vonta Leach have "heated up," and that coach Joe Philbin wants a deal done before the end of the week.
Leach tried out for the Dolphins at last week's minicamp. He'd immediately slot in as the starting fullback in South Beach. Leach is also reportedly talking with the Texans.

Tue Jun 18 201301:12Vonta Leach expects to sign with team soon
Free agent FB Vonta Leach expects to sign with a new team before training camp.
NFL camps open in five weeks. Leach thinks he'll have a club in two. "I feel great," he said. "I know I can play in this league and I've got some teams that are courting me. In the next two weeks, I know where I'll be playing." The Charlotte Daily Reflector reports the Chiefs are among the teams after Leach. He visited the Dolphins last week and also drew interest from the Giants.

Fri Jun 14 201309:52Browns not expected to sign FB Vonta Leach
The Akron Beacon-Journal reports the Browns are not expected to sign free agent FB Vonta Leach.
The Browns expressed some interest in signing Leach, but Owen Marecic will remain the only fullback on the active roster. Leach was released by the Ravens on Tuesday and has drawn interest from as many as five teams.

Thu Jun 13 201309:07Vonta Leach's agent: 7 teams are interested
The agent for free agent FB Vonta Leach said seven teams have expressed interest in his client.
Agent Ralph Vitolo named five of the suitors in the Dolphins, Texans, Giants, Chiefs and Browns. It's not a surprise considering Leach has been a first-team All-Pro in three straight seasons and graded out as Pro Football Focus' top-rated lead blocker last year. He reportedly had a visit with Miami on Wednesday.

Tue Jun 11 201319:28Giants reach out to Vonta Leach
In addition to the Dolphins, the Giants have reached out to free agent FB Vonta Leach.
Leach is further along in Dolphins discussions, as he's lined up a visit for Wednesday. The Giants have interest because starting lead blocker Henry Hynoski is recovering from knee surgery. Hynoski is expected back early in the season, if not by Week 1. Miami has a greater need and more cap space.

Tue Jun 11 201318:50Dolphins to host free agent FB Vonta Leach
The Dolphins will host free agent FB Vonta Leach on Wednesday.
Leach has a coaching staff connection in Miami; offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was on the Packers and Texans' staffs when Leach played there. The Fins' current fullback is Jorvorskie Lane, but Leach would be an enormous upgrade as a lead blocker. His addition would be good news for Lamar Miller.

Tue Jun 11 201317:11Vonta Leach's first choice to play for Texans
The Houston Chronicle reports free agent FB Vonta Leach's "first choice" is to rejoin the Texans.
Unfortunately for Leach, the Texans have Greg Jones, whom they guaranteed $240,000 on a one-year contract. It's an unlikely landing spot. Leach might be smart to set his sights on the Browns, where OC Norv Turner has a history of effective fullback play (e.g. Lorenzo Neal) and teaches a power run game.

Tue Jun 11 201311:30Ravens release veteran lead blocker Leach
Ravens released FB Vonta Leach.
Leach graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 lead blocker last year, but saw his role marginalized after OC Cam Cameron was replaced by Jim Caldwell. The Ravens believe they can get by with fourth-round rookie Kyle Juszczyk, thus saving Leach's $4.33 million cap number. We'd only downgrade Ray Rice very slightly. As a first-team All-Pro in three straight seasons, the 31-year-old Leach will land on his feet. The Giants could come calling thanks to Henry Hynoski's knee injury.

Mon Jun 10 201322:43Ravens to make decision on Leach by noon Tue.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports if the Ravens can't trade FB Vonta Leach by 12:00 PM ET on Tuesday, then he will be released.
The Ravens will be lucky to get a conditional late-round choice back in return for Leach, so we fully expect him to get his walking papers tomorrow afternoon. Even at 31 years of age, Leach was far and away Pro Football Focus' top-rated lead blocker in 2012. Once released, he shouldn't be out of work very long.

Mon Jun 10 201317:52Lead blocker Leach on the outs in Baltimore
The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have been unable to reach a salary compromise with FB Vonta Leach, and are expected to trade or cut him by Tuesday.
The Ravens were intent on reducing Leach's $3 million salary and $4.33 million cap figure, but he wouldn't budge. Leach was phased out of the offense under OC Jim Caldwell down the stretch last season, and Baltimore drafted replacement Kyle Juszczyk out of Harvard. Most likely, Leach will be released.

Thu Jun 6 201318:53Ravens intent on re-working Leach's contract
The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens would still like to lower FB Vonta Leach's $4.33 million salary cap number.
The Ravens are "expected to craft a proposal to try to adjust his contract." FB Kyle Juszcyzk was selected in the fourth round of the draft, but the team wants to keep both players. "When the situation comes, I think we'll take care of it," Leach said. Leach won't struggle to find work, if released.
