Mon Mar 18 201318:03Report: Hasselbeck drawing plenty of interest
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports up to ten teams have expressed interest in free agent Matt Hasselbeck, and the list could get longer.
This is obviously agent-driven, but Mort says the Cardinals, Bills, Bears, Bengals, Browns, Colts, Saints, Giants, 49ers, and Bucs are the clubs with initial interest. Per Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers, Arizona has begun reviewing the soon-to-be 38-year-old's tape. Hasselbeck was owed $5.5 million before the Titans cut him on Monday. He'd be lucky to get half of that on his next deal.

Mon Mar 18 201316:38Titans part with 37-year-old Matt Hasselbeck
Titans released QB Matt Hasselbeck.
The writing had been on the wall. Tennessee recently flirted with free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Hasselbeck's $5.5 million base salary was untenable for a 37-year-old backup quarterback in steep decline. Though never blessed with a cannon arm, Hasselbeck can no longer drive the ball without putting significant loft underneath his passes. Across eight appearances (five starts) last season, he managed a 6.2 yards-per-attempt average, going 2-3 as a starter and accounting for seven touchdowns compared to six turnovers. He'll likely resurface in a backup role at a much cheaper 2013 rate. Hasselbeck is no longer remotely a viable starter.

Fri Mar 8 201308:29Matt Hasselbeck knows he could get released
Matt Hasselbeck confirmed Thursday he's working on a restructured contract with the Titans, and admitted his release is a possibility.
"Well, yeah, if we can't come to an agreement, I guess that's what they'd have to do," Hasselbeck said. "Again, I'm really hopeful (I stay), but I understand that some things are more out of your control." Hasselbeck is scheduled to make $5.5 million, and count $7.5 million against the cap. Despite the Titans' need for a viable backup to Jake Locker, Hasselbeck's salary is prohibitive for a player who appeared near the end last season.

Mon Feb 4 201318:59Hasselbeck a restructure candidate for Titans
The Nashville Tennessean says the Titans may look to restructure Matt Hasselbeck's contract.
Hasselbeck is entering the final year of his contract, and is set to earn $5.5 million. That's a bit much for a 37-year-old strict backup. Beat write John Glennon considers it unlikely for Tennessee to cut Hasselbeck, and there really isn't an urgency to do so with the Titans having plenty of cap space.

Thu Jan 3 201308:32Matt Hasselbeck content to stick as backup
Matt Hasselbeck said he's content to serve as Jake Locker's backup once again next season.
Entering the final year of his contract at age 38, Hasselbeck knows his role. He's expected to mentor Locker, aiding in the development of the Titans' franchise quarterback. It's not like Hasselbeck would be able to land a starting gig if he hit the open market anyway. "I'm OK with being a part of his maturing process if that's the role I have to play," he said. "What also goes with that role is stepping in if he can't go, so I knew all that coming in." Hasselbeck is due $5.5 million in base salary in 2013.

Mon Oct 29 201216:45Titans to start Matt Hasselbeck again in Wk 9
Coach Mike Munchak confirmed Monday that the Titans will start Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback in Week 9 against the Bears.
Jake Locker (shoulder) has been practicing for two weeks, but Titans coaches seem to believe Hasselbeck gives them their best chance to win. Tennessee has tough upcoming matchups against the defenses of Chicago and Miami, before a Week 11 bye. It's conceivable that they'll stick with Hasselbeck for those two games, then reevaluate whether to reinsert Locker during the open date.

Sun Oct 28 201218:13Hasselbeck throws for 236 yards, TD
Matt Hasselbeck completed 22-of-29 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown versus the Colts in Week 8.
After losing a 22-yard touchdown to Kenny Britt on an iffy offensive pass interference call, Hasselbeck dropped one in the bucket for a 23-yard score to Kendall Wright. Although Hasselbeck was accurate with a 75.8 completion percentage, 8.1 yards per attempt and 110.7 passer rating, he missed an open Jared Cook down the seam on the potential game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter. He's done enough to keep the job for another week, but the coaching staff may use the loss as a reason to re-install Jake Locker as the Week 9 starter versus the Bears.

Mon Oct 22 201216:25Titans to stay with Matt Hasselbeck in Week 8
Titans coach Mike Munchak confirmed Monday that Matt Hasselbeck is expected to start at quarterback in Week 8 against the Colts.
Jake Locker's shoulder needs one more week, although Hasselbeck's success under center may have plenty to do with it. Hasselbeck has engineered back-to-back wins over the Steelers and Bills, averaging under 6.5 yards per attempt but committing just one turnover and largely keeping the offense moving. Hasselbeck simply gives Tennessee more stability at this point. The sledding gets much tougher after the Colts game with Chicago and Miami's defenses on deck, so it will be interesting to see whether the Titans throw Locker back into that fire should Hasselbeck pull out a third straight victory. Tennessee can move to 4-4 and second place in the AFC South with a win over Indy.

Sun Oct 21 201217:27Matt Hasselbeck leads Titans to another win
Matt Hasselbeck completed 22-of-33 passes for 205 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Titans' Week 7 win over the Bills.
Hasselbeck managed the game reasonably well despite a ton of pressure from the Bills' beleaguered front seven. He resorted to dinks and dunks while riding Chris Johnson to a win. Even though Hasselbeck has led the Titans to two straight wins, Jake Locker (shoulder) is fully expected to get the starting gig back in Week 8. The Titans know there's a ton more upside in the youngster's mammoth arm and athletic legs.

Mon Oct 15 201217:10Titans to give Matt Hasselbeck another start
Titans coach Mike Munchak announced Monday that Matt Hasselbeck will start at quarterback in Week 7 against the Bills.
Munchak insisted Jake Locker remains the Titans' starter when healthy, but he'll get one more week to rest his twice-dislocated shoulder. The Titans believe Locker is on track to start in Week 8 against Indianapolis. 37-year-old Hasselbeck is a crafty veteran capable of getting the football to Kenny Britt, which is pretty much all fantasy owners can ask for. Hasselbeck just isn't much of a standalone fantasy QB, even against a bad Buffalo defense. On the season, he has a 4:4 TD-to-INT ratio, 60.2-percent completion rate, and 5.9 YPA in four appearances (two starts).

Fri Oct 12 201216:40Hasselbeck to get one more start?
Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean expects Matt Hasselbeck to receive "at least" one more start following Thursday night's win over Pittsburgh.
The Titans can justify continuing to hold Jake Locker (shoulder) out of the starting lineup by pushing the idea that he isn't healthy yet. Hasselbeck's talent level isn't anywhere near Locker's at age 37, but he kept the offense moving against the Steelers and make some crafty, veteran plays. It's debatable which quarterback gives the Titans a better chance of getting Kenny Britt the ball.

Fri Oct 12 201200:08Hasselbeck steady in Week 6 win over PIT
Matt Hasselbeck completed 25-of-44 passes for 290 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Tennessee's Week 6 victory over the Steelers on Thursday night.
Hasselbeck was very steady on Thursday night, and he had potential for more yards if not for some disconnect with his receivers. He doesn't offer much when throwing further than 10-15 yards down the field, but he's a pro when it comes to quick-hitters and check-downs. After an ugly Week 5 performance against the Vikings that saw Hasselbeck throw for just 200 yards on 46 attempts, the offense had a nice bounce-back effort. Jake Locker (left shoulder) will look to return against the Bills in Week 7, but if not, it's still a nice matchup for Tennessee.

Tue Oct 2 201208:34Matt Hasselbeck expected to start Sunday
Matt Hasselbeck is expected to start Sunday's Week 5 game against the Vikings.
Jake Locker hurt his left shoulder for the second time in four weeks. Hasselbeck started 16 games a year ago, averaging 223.2 yards to go with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. His arm strength is really lacking at age 37, but the veteran reads defenses and feels out a pocket better than Locker. Considering the Vikings are giving up just 3.27 YPC on the ground this season, the Titans might be forced to go to the air. Hasselbeck is on the desperation QB2 radar.

Sun Sep 9 201216:12Hasselbeck plays in relief of hurt Locker
Matt Hasselbeck came off the bench to complete 6-of-11 passes for 43 yards in the Titans' Week 1 loss to New England.
Hasselbeck relieved an injured Jake Locker, who went down with a second-half shoulder injury. Locker did not return to the game. Hasselbeck still stands strong in the pocket and can deliver the ball accurately to open receivers, but he's a big downgrade from Locker in terms of arm strength and playmaking ability. Hasselbeck would barely be on the Week 2 fantasy radar as a QB2 if Locker were unavailable for Week 2 at San Diego. We'll know more on Monday.

Mon Aug 20 201208:59Matt Hasselbeck loses out to Jake Locker
Matt Hasselbeck has lost the starting quarterback job to Jake Locker.
The Titans wisely chose to go with explosive youth over the rapidly declining Hasselbeck. Now 36, he's entering the clipboard-holding phase of his career and his turnovers are at least partially to blame. Through two preseason games, Hasselbeck went 9-of-14 for 74 yards with no touchdowns and two picks. During the last three regular seasons, he's thrown 47 touchdowns and 48 interceptions. Hasselbeck is now undraftable in fantasy formats.

Sun Aug 19 201211:18Titans will name QB 'when time is right'
Coach Mike Munchak says the Titans will name their starting quarterback "when the time is right."
The Titans had hoped to pick a starter before their third preseason game, but Jake Locker's rough second exhibition showing has thrown a wrench into those plans. "We have two more weeks to see plenty, so I guess when we feel we're at that point, we'll make our announcements when we feel the time is right," said Munchak. Through two preseason games, Locker is 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) for 101 yards (4.2 YPA), no touchdowns, and an interception. Matt Hasselbeck is 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) for 74 yards (5.3 YPA), no touchdowns, and two picks.

Coach Mike Munchak confirmed that the decision to start Matt Hasselbeck in the preseason opener means little.

Thu Aug 9 201218:23Hasselbeck to start exhibition opener
Matt Hasselbeck will start the Titans' exhibition opener versus the Seahawks.
This doesn't mean Jake Locker isn't still viewed as the in-house favorite. Hasselbeck is getting the deferential veteran treatment for his Seattle homecoming Saturday night. He's expected to play two series before giving way to Locker for the rest of the first half.

Thu Aug 9 201207:58Matt Hasselbeck throwing picks in camp
Matt Hasselbeck has thrown eight interceptions during team drills at camp while Jake Locker has thrown just two.
Locker hit a little rough patch about a week into camp, but he's settled back in and performed well. The Titans still haven't made a decision about who to start in their preseason opener, a sign that this battle truly is neck-and-neck. Over the last three seasons, Hasselbeck has tossed 48 interceptions and 47 touchdowns.
