Thu Apr 21 201115:33D'Backs' Miranda goes hitless in start
Juan Miranda went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts Thursday versus the Reds.
Miranda was supposed to be the Diamondbacks' primary first baseman, but today's start was just his second in 10 days. He'll probably be back on the bench in favor of Russell Branyan on Friday.

Wed Apr 13 201103:10D'Backs' Miranda homers off bench
Juan Miranda didn't start Tuesday, but he delivered a three-run homer off the bench against the Cardinals.
Manager Kirk Gibson opted for Russell Branyan at first base tonight, and Branyan responded with a nice game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Miranda, though, probably earned his way back into Wednesday's lineup with the pinch-hit homer off Bryan Augenstein. It was his first homer of the year.

Tue Apr 5 201114:00Miranda to be primary starter at first base
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday that Juan Miranda will be his primary starter at first base.
Russell Branyan will also get plenty of looks at first base in the early going and has enough power to stick around as a part-timer all season. Miranda is 2-for-5 with two strikeouts so far. Branyan is 2-for-4 with two walks.

Fri Apr 1 201114:59GIbson won't say if Juan Miranda is starter
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson wouldn't commit to Juan Miranda as his starter at first base, saying only that he's his starter for Opening Day.
Russell Branyan will have plenty of chances to show he's worthy of the first base job. The two figure to share time pretty evenly early on, though the smarter money would be on Branyan getting more at-bats over the long haul.

Fri Apr 1 201112:49Juan Miranda gets start over Russell Branyan
Juan Mirada is starting over Russell Branyan in the Diamondbacks' Opening Day lineup.
A mild surprise. Branyan had a red-hot spring, but Miranda hit the ball pretty well himself. The two figure to split time at first base pretty evenly, though it wouldn't surprise us if Branyan eventually wrestled away the job.

Wed Mar 30 201110:19Miranda earns spot on D-Backs' roster
Juan Miranda has earned a spot on the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster.
Miranda, who entered spring training out of options, batted .267/.397/.517 with four homers and nine RBI over 57 at-bats and ultimately won the job over Brandon Allen. "Juan Miranda earned a spot here," said Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson. "He's going to play a lot for us. It is not because we were afraid of losing him. It is because we think he has earned the right to play. Defensively, he's better than I thought. We really didn't know what to expect. He gets the head (of the bat) out. He drives the ball pretty good. He's got his share of walks. He has a great attitude." While Miranda will see plenty of playing time at first base, we like Russell Branyan better from a fantasy perspective.

Wed Mar 16 201119:55Juan Miranda sends one over the boards
Juan Miranda went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 10-8 loss to the Angels.
Miranda is viewed as the favorite to receive most of the starts at first base for the D-backs, and although he hasn't had as big of a spring as Russell Branyan, he's certainly held his own, batting .294 with three longballs. The former Yankee has some NL-only league potential.

Wed Mar 2 201118:39Juan Miranda hits blast Wednesday
Juan Miranda clubbed a two-run homer and walked twice in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Mariners.
Miranda now has four RBI in six spring contests thus far. The acquisition of Russell Branyan hurt his already-mediocre fantasy prospects, but the former Yankee farmhand has enough pop that he could help out NL-only leaguers if he gets something like 300 at-bats.

Sun Dec 26 201008:20D-backs to roll with Miranda at first base?
The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro writes that GM Kevin Towers likes Juan Miranda and "seems keen on giving him an opportunity."
The Cuban defector batted .253/.330/.458 with four homers over 83 at-bats the last three years with the Yankees and is coming off a season at Triple-A where he posted a .285/.371/.495 batting line with 15 longballs over 295 at-bats. Miranda, who will turn 28 in April, will need to get off to a good start, as the D-backs are likely to lean on Xavier Nady at first base if Miranda struggles out of the gate, but there's NL-only league potential here.

Thu Nov 18 201013:10D-Backs acquire Miranda from Yanks
Diamondbacks acquired 1B Juan Miranda from the Yankees for RHP Scott Allen.
It looks like Miranda had a fan in Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers. The Cuban defector wasn't going to get a shot at regular playing time in the Bronx, but he could actually play in Arizona if they don't end up with a first baseman in free agency.
Mon Sep 13 201009:20Yanks called up Juan Miranda
Yankees recalled 1B Juan Miranda from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Miranda batted .230 (14-for-61) with three home runs and nine RBI in 28 games with the big club earlier this season. He's not fantasy relevant.

Both Miranda and Curtis are likely to return on September 1 when rosters expand.

Fri Jul 16 201017:22Yankees recall 1B Miranda
Yankees recalled first baseman Juan Miranda from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Miranda is the Yankees' best choice as a DH against right-handers when Jorge Posada catches, but time will tell if they see it that way. He hit .217/.294/.435 in 46 at-bats for the Bombers earlier this season.
Thu May 13 201011:10Yanks call up Juan Miranda
Yankees recalled 1B Juan Miranda from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
As expected. Miranda, 27, was batting .260/.371/.438 with five home runs and 15 RBI over his first 96 at-bats at the Triple-A level this season. He's not really a prospect at this point, but he'll provide the Yankees with an another left-handed bat off the bench.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees are calling up minor league first baseman Juan Miranda.
He will give the team a much-needed left-handed bat following the loss of Curtis Granderson and Nick Johnson to injuries. Miranda, 27, is hitting .260/.371/.438 with five home runs in 96 at-bats this season for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. It's not clear who will be sent down to clear room.
