Mon Oct 20 201417:24Though Chargers did not practice Monday
Though the Chargers did not practice Monday, if they had, Brown (concussion) would not have participated, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The same applies to fellow RB Ryan Mathews, with both backs looking iffy, at best, for Thursday's game against the Broncos at this stage.

Brown (concussion) is out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
With fellow RB Ryan Mathews still sidelined, Branden Oliver is once again slated to head the Chargers' backfield this weekend. In each of the team's last two games, Oliver has topped 100 rushing yards, while catching eight passes for 91 yards and scoring a total of three TDs in that span.
Thu Oct 16 201414:35Brown (concussion) did not practice Thursday
Brown (concussion) did not practice Thursday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Brown hasn't practiced since suffering a concussion on Oct. 5, and thus seems likely to miss Sunday's game against the Chiefs. In such a scenario, Branden Oliver would once again be in line to head the Chargers' backfield this weekend.
Wed Oct 15 201414:33Brown (concussion) did not practice Wednesday
Brown (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The report notes that Brown was on the field, watching drills on Wednesday, but at this stage his status for Sunday's game against the Chiefs is cloudy. Meanwhile, fellow RB Ryan Mathews (knee) is still not practicing. We'll revisit Brown's status Thursday, but if he is out again, or limited at all this weekend, then Branden Oliver would once again be in line to to see an expanded role in the Chargers' backfield in Week 7.

Brown (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Oakland, the Chargers' official site reports.
With Brown's Week 6 absence confirmed, Branden Oliver is in line to head the Chargers' Week 6 backfield, with Ronnie Brown and Shaun Draughn on hand in serve in reserve/complementary roles Sunday against the Raiders.

Brown (concussion) has yet to practice this week, and according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune it appears doubtful that the running back will play Sunday against the Raiders.
We'll revisit Brown's status Friday, but in the event that he is unable to play this weekend, Branden Oliver would figure to see the bulk of the Chargers' Week 6 carries, with Ronnie Brown and Shaun Draughn also on hand in serve in reserve/complementary roles.

Brown suffered a concussion during Sunday's game versus the Jets and will not return.
Brown's Week 5 performance will come to a close after nine carries for just 26 yards and one catch for four yards. With Brown out, versatile rookie Branden Oliver becomes the Chargers' No. 1 running back.

Brown headed to locker room Sunday against the Jets to be evaluated for an unspecified injury, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Prior to exiting Sunday's game, Brown carried nine times for 26 yards. With Brown banged up, Branden Oliver is handling the Chargers' rushing duties.

Brown ran for just 19 yards on 10 carries and caught four passes for 35 yards in Sunday's 33-14 win over Jacksonville.
Considering the Jaguars entered the game as the worst rush defense in all of football, it was a very disappointing performance for Brown, who has struggled in back-to-back games, since Ryan Mathews injured his knee. Brown has a tough matchup next week against the Jets, and Branden Oliver could eat into his workload a bit too, as the undrafted rookie had 13 touches for 58 yards Sunday.
Sat Sep 27 201417:41Despite rather unimpressive numbers in Week 3 at Buffalo
Despite rather unimpressive numbers in Week 3 at Buffalo, the Chargers have faith in Brown and plan to feature him as the primary back on Sunday against the Jaguars, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The running game has been largely ineffective thus far this year with injuries to both Ryan Mathews (out for the next three to four weeks) and Danny Woodhead (season-ending IR), but San Diego believes Brown is capable of shouldering the load for the next few weeks. Brown has experience in both third-down and hurry-up situations, so he figures to be pretty much an every down back with Branden Oliver only giving him breathers as needed. As for the fact that he's averaged only two yards per carry so far this season, Brown is keeping the faith. "You just have to stay patient and stay persistent with it," he said. "It's going to crack eventually."
Sun Sep 21 201418:57Donald Brown: Positioned For Workhorse Role
Brown's teammate Danny Woodhead (ankle) will likely require season-ending surgery, FOX Sports 1's Alex Marvez reports.
With Ryan Mathews (knee) out for 4-5 weeks, Brown entered Sunday's game against the Bills as San Diego's top back, with Woodhead expected to handle most of the passing downs. Now that Woodhead is likely done for the season, Brown may be used as a true three-down workhorse -- as he was Sunday -- until Mathews return. Undrafted rookie Branden Olivier is the team's only other healthy running back, though Marion Grice will probably be signed from the practice squad.

Brown had 31 carries for 62 rushing yards and five catches on six targets for 27 receiving yards Sunday against the Bills.
Brown was expected to get a bigger workload with Ryan Mathews sidelined with a knee injury, but it got even bigger when Danny Woodhead was carted off in the first quarter with an ankle injury. While his 2.0 YPC were hardly impressive, Brown figures to be the workhorse back for the Chargers in Week 4 against the Jaguars with Mathews and Woodhead both likely out.

The Chargers are very happy that they added to their team depth in the offseason as they get ready to lean on Brown this Sunday at Buffalo, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Brown was brought in during the offseason to take some of the load off of Ryan Mathews in the hopes that they could keep him healthy and productive all year long. Of course, the Bolts also trusted that if Mathews went down, Brown would be capable of stepping up in his absence. So far, Brown is receiving rave reviews in San Diego and should keep the offense rolling against the Bills. "Donald's a super, super, super pro," said quarterback Philip Rivers. "He's so into it. Obviously, he had a heck of a time in Indy, and he's been good for us here early in the year."

Brown, who had seven carries for 21 yards on Sunday against the Seahawks, is in line for increased work since Ryan Mathews is expected to miss 4-to-5 weeks with a sprained MCL, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The Bolts signed Brown in the offseason as insurance for this exact situation, so they will not hesitate to use him liberally for the next several weeks. Danny Woodhead will also likely see his role increase, but count on Brown to be the bigger benefactor from the Mathews injury.

Brown's teammate Ryan Mathews (knee) is scheduled to undergo an MRI after exiting Sunday's game on a cart, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The Chargers reportedly fear that Mathews suffered a sprained MCL, an injury that typically requires a recovery period in the range of four weeks. Brown, who was previously getting only the occasional spare touch, will likely now work as the Chargers' lead back, though Danny Woodhead is still the go-to guy for obvious passing situations.
Tue Sep 9 201413:53Brown had two carries for -2 yards and did not catch pass
In his regular season debut with the Chargers, Brown had two carries for -2 yards and did not catch a pass.
The Cardinals play tough against the run, and the Bolts didn't really play very well in this one, so Brown's goose egg is not all that surprising. It should be noted that Brown's first snap came on the team's very first third down of the game. That should be a hint as to how San Diego plans to use him going forward.

Brown had 13 yards on five carries and five yards on one reception in Sunday's preseason game against the 49ers.
So long as Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead are healthy and not fumbling, Brown will likely be limited to a few touches per game. Mathews bounced back from a poor first showing this preseason, while Brown hasn't done much of note. Even if Mathews gets more rest than your average starter, the Chargers' offense probably can't support three useful fantasy options at running back. However, Mathews will likely have to play decently to keep his role, as Brown is being paid rather handsomely for a backup.

Brown gained 22 yards on three carries in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys.
With Danny Woodhead mostly a threat in the receiving game, Brown would likely handle most of the rushing workload in the event of a Ryan Mathews injury. As is, Brown may have to settle for just a few touches per game, though he's making quite a bit of money for such a role.
Tue Jul 22 201418:46Bolts' Donald Brown ticketed for 'grunt work'
FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports Donald Brown is ticketed for "grunt work" in San Diego.
The word comes straight from GM Tom Telesco. That is not to say Brown will receive zero touches, but Ryan Mathews will remain the Bolts' primary grinder, with Danny Woodhead monopolizing passing-down looks. Brown will be tasked with picking up blitzes and other dirty work. We wouldn't expect more than 5-6 touches per game.

Wed Apr 2 201409:45Donald Brown to get 5-10 touches per game?
The Union-Tribune San Diego projects 5-10 touches per game for Donald Brown this season.
As long as starter and designated "bell cow" Ryan Mathews stays healthy, Brown's role will be relatively minor. Of course, Mathews has missed 10 games through four NFL seasons, has hobbled through countless others and is entering the final year of his contract. The Chargers also project to execute one of the league's more run-heavy schemes. So Brown, who got a $10.5 million contract with $4 million guaranteed, will be well worth owning as a handcuff in fantasy circles.
