Sun Jul 10 201117:27Maggs leads Tigers past Royals
Magglio Ordonez went 1-for-3 with his 14th RBI in Detroit's 2-1 win over the Royals on Sunday.
Ordonez's RBI single in the sixth would prove to be the difference today. Although Ordonez is still batting just .217 on the season, he is hitting .308 through his first 26 at-bats of July, and could prove to be a shrewd mixed-league flier to take in the second half.

Wed Jun 22 201119:09Magglio Ordonez homers in Tigers' win
Magglio Ordonez hit one of four Tigers homers Wednesday in a 7-5 win over the Dodgers.
The Tigers faced a close call in the ninth, as Jose Valverde loaded the bases and then gave up a deep fly to center off the bat of Dioner Navarro. However, Austin Jackson was able to make a nice running catch to end the game. Ordonez's homer was a two-run shot off Ted Lilly. Casper Wells and Miguel Cabrera also took Lilly deep, while Don Kelly homered off Matt Guerrier in the eighth. Ordonez's homer was just his second of the season. He's 4-for-20 since coming off the DL last week.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that Magglio Ordonez (ankle) isn't a lock to return on Monday.
"I don't know," Leyland said. "(Monday) is what the target is. Target date, but I can't answer that for sure." Maggs is heating up at the plate for Triple-A Toledo, having gone deep in consecutive games. He still seems likely to rejoin the club Monday, but perhaps they'll give him another couple days.

Mon Jun 6 201111:28Ordonez to remain at Triple-A Toledo Monday
Magglio Ordonez (ankle) will remain at Triple-A Toledo on Monday but could be activated Tuesday.
The Tigers are playing it safe with the veteran outfielder, who was batting just .172/.226/.232 when he was placed on the disabled list in mid-May with a right ankle injury. Ordonez is not a great fantasy bet.

Tue May 24 201109:07Ordonez aiming to return this weekend
Magglio Ordonez (ankle) is aiming to return from the 15-day disabled list this weekend.
Ordonez is eligible to be activated on Thursday, but he hasn't been cleared to perform all baseball activities and would probably still need a minor league rehab assignment. The Tigers seem unlikely to rush the veteran outfielder, who was batting just .172/.226/.232.

Mon May 23 201122:46Magglio Ordonez (ankle) making progress

Fri May 13 201114:56Magglio Ordonez (ankle) placed on DL
Tigers placed OF Magglio Ordonez on the 15-day disabled list with right ankle weakness.
Ordonez simply hasn't been himself all season after ankle surgery late last year, and it's showed in his results at the plate, as he's batting only .172/.226/.232 with one home run over 99 at-bats. The Tigers have decided to shut him down and hopefully let the ankle heal, which is probably the right move. Brennan Boesch will be the regular in right field with Maggs out.

Wed May 4 201121:54Magglio finally breaks out in 4-0 win
Magglio Ordonez showed signs of life against the Yankees on Wednesday evening, homering and doubling while picking up two RBI in a 4-0 Tigers victory.
The home run was his first of the season while the double was just his second. While it's obviously great news Ordonez has finally had a night like tonight, it's going to take sustained production over 10-to-12 games before it's safe to declare his profound early-season funk a thing of the past.

Tue May 3 201121:22Magglio Ordonez 'hitting with one leg'
Magglio Ordonez admitted that he's been "hitting with one leg."
Maggs has dealt with a nagging ankle ankle injury all season that has kept him from being able to push off his right leg. "It doesn't hurt," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He just feels it." Ordonez was batting only .151/.215/.164 with no home runs coming into Tuesday' game, and he's shown no signs of turning it around.

Mon May 2 201123:19Ordonez could move down in order
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that he will consider moving Magglio Ordonez down in the batting order once Victor Martinez (groin) returns from the disabled list.
Ordonez went 0-for-4 out of the No. 3 spot Monday against the Yankees and is batting just .151 over his first 73 at-bats this season. We're not crazy about him in mixed leagues in the first place, so getting bumped down in the lineup won't help his declining fantasy value.

Fri Apr 29 201103:41Leyland keeps faith in Ordonez
Despite being mired in a month-long slump, Magglio Ordonez continues to have Tigers manager Jim Leyland's confidence.
Ordonez struck out three times in another 0-for-4 performance Thursday against the Mariners, dropping his average to .172. Leyland trusts that his aging star with start hitting "at some point." When asked whether Ordonez's slump could lead to lineup changes, Leyland replied, "I don't think so. It's a matter of believing in track records."

Sun Apr 24 201112:35Magglio Ordonez's ankle coming around
Magglio Ordonez said Sunday that his ankle is finally starting to come around a little bit.
Maggs felt good running Saturday and, according to beat writer Jason Beck, seemed to be in a better mood the last few days than he has all season. He's been in and out of the lineup at the beginning of the season due to ongoing issues with the ankle. Hitting just .190/.292/.214 with one extra-bats hit (a double) all season, Ordonez can't be trusted as a fantasy option right now.
