Sun Sep 25 2011 | 10:20 | Brandon Allen will go to winter ball |
The Athletics will send Brandon Allen to play in the Dominican Winter League this year. |
Allen got off to a roaring start with the A's but has stumbled down the stretch, batting .132 with 42 strikeouts in his past 25 games. A's manager Bob Melvin said there are some specific things he'd like to see Allen work on at the plate, but he's yet to speak to the first baseman about them. Allen will enter spring training as the favorite for the first base job next year. |

Thu Sep 1 2011 | 00:13 | A's, Allen drop 16-inning marathon |
Brandon Allen went 2-for-6 with his eighth RBI in Oakland's marathon 4-3, 16-inning loss to the Indians on Wednesday. |
Allen's RBI single came in the third. After Kurt Suzuki hit a solo home run one inning later, the A's would go 12 innings without a run. Allen had been just one for his past 15 coming into this evening. He's now hitting .290 through his first 69 at-bats in Oakland. |

Wed Aug 24 2011 | 20:55 | Brandon Allen will continue to get PT |
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he'll continue to play Brandon Allen every day while he hits. |
The A's had planned to platoon Allen and Conor Jackson at first base for the rest of the season, but Allen has forced their hand after slugging .758 in his 34 at-bats since landing in Oakland. Jackson will now see more time in right field, where he's starting Wednesday. |

Fri Aug 19 2011 | 11:32 | Brandon Allen holding on to starting role |
The A's will continue to go with Brandon Allen over Conor Jackson at first base for the time being. |
Allen has excelled since a stiff neck knocked Jackson out of the lineup for a few days earlier this week, going 9-for-19 with three extra-base hits and two RBI. He's worth a look in AL-only leagues, but will most likely split time at first with Jackson down the stretch. |

Wed Aug 17 2011 | 01:07 | Allen goes 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple |
Brandon Allen went 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple in Oakland's win over the Orioles on Tuesday. |
He scored twice. This makes Allen 7-for-13 since joining the A's on August 13, posting a fun-looking .538/.571/.769 slash line in that time. If he keeps raking, he'll continue putting pressure on Conor Jackson, who is out with neck tightness. |

Tue Aug 16 2011 | 01:15 | Brandon Allen has another three-hit night |
Brandon Allen went 3-for-4 in Oakland's loss to the Orioles on Monday. |
That makes Allen 6-for-10 since joining the A's on August 13. He's putting pressure on Conor Jackson as the fragile 1B/OF sits out with neck tightness. |

Sun Aug 14 2011 | 20:20 | Brandon Allen picks up three hits |
Brandon Allen went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Rangers. |
Allen was a late addition to the lineup in place of Conor Jackson (neck tightness). He immediately showed why he should be playing more often after getting called up on Saturday. Look for the two to at least split at-bats for now, making Allen worth a stash in AL-only formats. |

Sun Aug 14 2011 | 09:38 | Brandon Allen to back up Jackson |
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Conor Jackson remains his starting first baseman, leaving Brandon Allen to come off the bench. |
Why, exactly? With the A's well out of contention, this is the perfect time to give Allen an extended look to see if he might be your starting first baseman for next season, but evidently Melvin doesn't see it that way. Allen should still be in line for a start or two per week, and perhaps he'll wiggle his way past Jackson if he gets hot. |

Sat Aug 13 2011 | 13:14 | Brandon Allen recalled |
Athletics recalled 1B-OF Brandon Allen from Triple-A Sacramento. |
Allen, who was acquired from the D'Backs last month in the Brad Ziegler trade, is batting .299/.413/.578 with 21 homers and 72 RBI at the Triple-A level this season and should get a shot to immediately step into the first base job. He's certainly worth adding in AL-only leagues. |

Sun Jul 31 2011 | 13:20 | A's acquire 1B-OF Allen for Ziegler |
Athletics acquired 1B-OF Brandon Allen and LHP Jordan Norberto from the Diamondbacks for RHP Brad Ziegler. |
Not a bad return for a reliever. On the surface, Allen looks like an ideal Billy Beane target. The 25-year-old has struggled in limited playing time in the big leagues, but has a .960 OPS over 1,074 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. He could be a potential fit at first base for Oakland. |

Thu Jul 28 2011 | 18:35 | Brandon Allen knocks in three runs |
Brandon Allen had a two-run homer and a bases-loaded walk that gave the Diamondbacks all of their runs Thursday. |
Allen has just four hits in 26 at-bats since his callup, but three of them are homers. Still, let's not confuse him with Wily Mo Pena: he does have five walks already. He'll keep starting at first base against right-handers. |

Sat Jul 16 2011 | 23:03 | Allen homers, D'Backs beat Dodgers |
Brandon Allen hit his first home run of the season in Saturday's defeat of the Dodgers. |
It was Allen's only hit of the night, but it was a big one. The 25-year-old was promoted from Triple-A Reno on Thursday after registering a 1.006 OPS and 18 home runs in 377 minor league plate appearances. He should start at first base most nights for Arizona and has some value in deep mixed leagues. |

Thu Jul 14 2011 | 19:17 | D'Backs recall Brandon Allen to play 1B |
Diamondbacks recalled 1B Brandon Allen from Triple-A Reno. |
Allen will be given a shot to take over starting first base duties in Arizona after rattling off an impressive .306/.427/.579 batting line and 18 home runs in 377 plate appearances at Triple-A Reno. He's worth rostering in deeper mixed leagues. |

Thu Jul 14 2011 | 11:56 | Report: D-Backs to call up Brandon Allen |
According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Brandon Allen was told he's being recalled from Triple-A Reno. |
Paul Goldschmidt fans may not be thrilled, but Allen could still represent an upgrade over Juan Miranda and Xavier Nady at first base. The 25-year-old is batting .306/.427/.579 with 18 homers and a 1.006 OPS over 377 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. Playing in the PCL obviously helped, but lefty batters love Chase Field. He's worth adding in NL-only formats. |

Sat Jul 9 2011 | 08:35 | D'Backs considering promoting 1B |
The Diamondbacks will consider promoting either Brandon Allen or Paul Goldschmidt to the big leagues for the start of the second half. |
Juan Miranda and Xavier Nady simply haven't gotten the job done, and it appears the D'Backs are looking at alternatives for first base. Goldschmidt has gotten a lot of pub this year, and rightfully so given his 25 homers, 78 RBI and .315 average at Double-A Mobile. But, Allen has also had a big year and might be a more likely candidate for a promotion given that he's already at Triple-A and has major league experience. He's hitting .300/.426/.570 with 17 longballs and 63 RBI for Triple-A Reno. |

Wed Mar 30 2011 | 10:12 | D-Backs send Brandon Allen to Triple-A |
Diamondbacks optioned 1B Brandon Allen to Triple-A Reno. |
We saw this one coming. The Diamondbacks already added Russell Branyan to the roster and Juan Miranda is out of options, so Allen was the unfortunate victim of a roster crunch. Branyan is far from an iron man and Miranda is unproven at the big league level, so there's still a chance Allen will be a factor at some point this season. |

Sun Mar 13 2011 | 19:08 | D'Backs' Allen hits first homer |
Brandon Allen went 2-for-3 and hit his first homer of the spring Sunday against the Cubs. |
Allen doesn't have anything left to prove in the minors, at least not offensively, and he did hit .267/.393/.400 in 45 at-bats for Arizona last season. At 25, he seems ready for an opportunity to play regularly, or at least against right-handers. The Diamondbacks, though, may have other plans after adding Xavier Nady and Russell Branyan. Allen is battling for playing time at first base and in left field, but he might wind up back in Triple-A. |

Wed Sep 1 2010 | 20:50 | Allen hits grand slam, D'Backs beat Padres |
Brandon Allen went 2-for-3 with a grand slam on Wednesday in the Diamondbacks' defeat of the Padres. |
Allen displayed some serious power potential in a short stay with the Diamondbacks last season and had been on fire this year at Triple-A Reno. He's one of the few September call-ups in the National League that is worth keeping an eye on for fantasy purposes down the stretch. |
Wed Sep 1 2010 | 14:41 | D-Backs recall Brandon Allen from minors |
Diamondbacks recalled 1B-OF Brandon Allen from Triple-A Reno. |
Allen was batting .261/.405/.528 with 25 homers, 86 RBI and a 933 OPS in 371 at-bats with the Aces. The 24-year-old has played 33 games in left field this season to positive reviews, so he's likely to see at least some time there with the big league club in September. He's well worth an investment in NL-only and keeper leagues, even with Adam LaRoche as the everyday first baseman. |
Thu Aug 26 2010 | 08:43 | Allen a lock for September cal-lup |
Brandon Allen looks to be a lock for a call-up in September. |
Allen has played 30 games in left field for Triple-A Reno this season and has reportedly held his own defensively. That could be where his future lies if the D-backs re-up with Adam LaRoche. Allen has a .948 OPS at Reno this season, including a 1.035 mark in the second half. He's a worthy pickup in NL-only leagues and certainly keeper leagues when he gets the call. |
