Fri Nov 16 201220:51Nolan Smith deactivated, Claver active
Nolan Smith will be inactive for Friday's game against the Rockets.
Victor Claver will be active for the Blazers to help them on the wing, but he won't get enough playing time to matter in fantasy leagues. Ronnie Price has played well so far this year and has logged some minutes at shooting guard while backing up super-rookie Damian Lillard.

Thu Oct 25 201223:48Nolan Smith (knee) plays 10 minutes off bench
Nolan Smith (knee) logged 10 minutes off Portland's bench on Thursday, scoring two points with two rebounds and two assists.
Smith's knee injury isn't a concern, but even at full health he's unlikely to be part of the regular season rotation -- the return of Ronnie Price (ankle) will bump him to the bottom of the depth chart.

Tue Oct 9 201218:08Nolan Smith (knee) misses practice on Tuesday
Nolan Smith (knee) missed practice on Tuesday.
Smith's knee sprain comes at a bad time with talk of Will Barton (hamstring) possibly getting minutes at point guard to behind Damian Lillard. The Duke product doesn't project to have any fantasy value while Damian Lillard is healthy.

Tue Oct 9 201216:42Nolan Smith hyperextends knee in practice
Reserve guard Nolan Smith hyperextended his left knee in Tuesday's practice, but will travel with the Blazers for Wednesday's game against the Lakers.
Smith is coming off a concussion suffered in Summer League, so it's been a tough offseason for him. The fact he'll travel with the team is good news, and it looks like he avoided a major injury. If he misses time Ronnie Price would likely back up starter Damian Lillard at the point.

Wed Oct 3 201219:29Nolan Smith playing backup PG right now
Nolan Smith said that he is playing backup PG right now over Ronnie Price.
This isn't an official report, but it's worth noting if you're tracking the Blazers' depth chart. Neither player will hold any fantasy value without an injury to Damian Lillard.

Mon Oct 1 201214:52Blazers wait on options for Smith, Babbitt
The Blazers will decide later this month whether to exercise contract options for Nolan Smith, Elliot Williams and Luke Babbitt.
Here's the scoop on each guy: Smith suffered a concussion in July but he's now healthy and ready to fight for his job in training camp. Williams (Achilles surgery) is done for the year but will likely be retained, since half his contract will be paid by insurance. Babbitt has a $2.9 million option, a hefty sum for a 3-point specialist who averaged 13 minutes per game last season.

Sat Jul 21 201215:53Nolan Smith slowly recovering from concussion
Blazers guard Nolan Smith is "slowly recovering" from his recent concussion, but is still experiencing headaches and fogginess.
Smith was lucky to have avoided more serious damage. Missing Summer League games could set him back in the hunt for backup PG minutes in Portland, but it sounds like he'll be fully recovered in time for training camp.

Thu Jul 19 201209:38Smith on road to recovery from concussion
Nolan Smith (concussion) "continued to endure headaches and a sore neck" on Wednesday.
However, Smith is believed to be on the road to recovery and his health should progress going forward. Smith will have to pass a series of tests to gain clearance to return to the court, and he's not expected to play again in summer league. GM Neil Olshey said that he was "impressed" with Smith's confidence while he was on the floor, and we expect him to serve as Damian Lillard's backup for the 2012-13 campaign.

Blazers guard Nolan Smith took a blow to the head in Summer League play on Tuesday and remained on the floor for several minutes before being removed on a stretcher.
Reports are that he is conscious and can move his extremities, so this looks like a possible concussion. He'll be taken to a hospital for tests, and we'll pass along more information as it becomes available. Smith had 27 points before leaving the game.

Mon Jul 16 201200:13Nolan Smith leaves game w/ sprained ankle
Nolan Smith sprained his ankle during the Trail Blazers' first game of Summer League on Sunday.
Smith was doubtful to return and could miss a few days if it worsens overnight. Portland is expected to pursue a veteran PG with their remaining cap space, so Smith is likely competing for backup minutes behind Damian Lillard.

Sun Jul 8 201223:10Nolan Smith working to improve jump shot
Blazers PG Nolan Smith is eager to compete for minutes with rookie Damian Lillard, and says he's improved his jump shot this summer.
Portland specifically asked Smith to work on his shooting this summer, so he hired a private coach and has overhauled his shooting motion. "My main focus is to get to where I'm knocking down threes way more consistently," Smith said. "I'm confident where my shot is now and with more time, I should get even more comfortable with it." He projects as the backup PG in Portland.

Tue Apr 24 201201:15Smith productive despite bench role
Nolan Smith was productive despite coming off the bench on Monday, scoring 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting (no threes) with six rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 34 minutes.
The big news here was that Jamal Crawford was an unreported DNP-CD, so maybe the Blazers are finally ready to shut him down, too. Raymond Felton (Achilles) bullied his way into action tonight, and he simply needs to be considered a wild card going forward. For Smith's part, seeing him produce like this takes a bit of the risk away when deciding if he's worth a play on Thursday against the Jazz. Jonny Flynn (18 minutes) scored nine points with three assists and a triple in the loss.

Mon Apr 23 201219:41Update: Nolan Smith to start vs. Spurs
Updating a few previous items, Nolan Smith will start at point guard in place of injured Raymond Felton (Achilles) on Monday against the Spurs.
Felton shook things up just a bit by saying that it was his decision regarding whether or not he would play tonight, but at this point he is a tough guy to believe given his standoff with the Portland media. Smith has averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals in the last three games, and he's a pretty good bet to hit those numbers tonight. Jonny Flynn could also be worth a look, as he has outproduced Smith on occasion, too.

Mon Apr 23 201213:19Nolan Smith to start at point guard
Nolan Smith will start at point guard in Monday's game against the Spurs.
Smith makes for an interesting spot-play in deeper formats. Over the last three games, he's averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals. Smith is a good bet to see 30-plus minutes once again Monday.

Thu Apr 19 201201:43Nolan Smith scores 16 in start at PG
Nolan Smith started at point guard in place of Raymond Felton, who might be shut down for the season, and had 16 points, no assists and a 3-pointer on 7-of-16 shooting in 39 minutes on Wednesday.
Jonny Flynn came off the bench for 11 points and seven dimes in 25 minutes, and if Felton is shut down, the duo will split minutes the rest of the way for the hard-luck Blazers.

Mon Apr 16 201209:56Nolan Smith to start for Blazers?
Nolan Smith is projected as the Blazers' starting point guard for Monday's game against the Suns.
This isn't set in stone, as the Blazers also want to get a look at Jonny Flynn down the stretch. Regardless, we know that Smith will get a ton of burn on Monday as Raymond Felton will be held out. In one start earlier this year, Smith managed just three points and three assists on 1-for-9 shooting. The rookie is yet to show starting-caliber NBA talent.
