Fri Nov 19 201009:38Azubuike (knee) just 1-2 weeks from return?
Kelenna Azubuike (knee) believes he is 1-2 weeks away from fully practicing with the Knicks.
"It's getting really close," said Azubuike. "A couple of more scrimmages under my belt, get plays down more and I'll be good to go. It's just a matter of time." This is a surprisingly optimistic report considering recent estimates pegged his return around January, and Mike D'Antoni isn't banking on his imminent return.

Thu Nov 18 201017:45Azubuike still not running smoothly
Kelenna Azubuike participated in a post-practice scrimmage on Thursday, though beat writer Alan Hahn notes that he's "still not running smoothly yet."
The vague timetable for his return is sometime in January, and even then he'll face plenty of competition from healthy guys like Bill Walker, Toney Douglas, and even Roger Mason. Just check in occasionally once the new year rolls around.

Mon Nov 15 201010:20No update on Kelenna
There have been no recent updates on the status of Knicks swingman Kelenna Azubuike (knee).
Azubuike is a year removed from major surgery, but may not return until January. The Knicks have lost five straight and with every 'L' Azubuike's stock appears to rise a bit -- keep him on your radar in the coming weeks.
Sat Oct 23 201009:56Azubuike (knee) could be out until January?
Knicks guard Kelenna Azubuike (knee) could be sidelined until January, according to the NY Daily News.
We knew Azubuike wasn't close to 100%, but this is still surprising since he had called himself questionable for opening night. In the absence of a definite timetable, the Knicks have too many options at SG for fantasy owners to bother hanging onto Azubuike.

Fri Oct 15 201014:16Azubuike (knee) iffy for opening night
Kelenna Azubuike (knee) still hopes to be ready for opening night, but coach Mike D'Antoni isn't so sure.
D'Antoni said "I'm not counting on him before Christmas," though beat writer Steve Ademek notes that he "Said it like a throwaway line, though, somewhat facetiously." This obviously doesn't clarify his status, but we're not expecting him to be near 100% until well into the season.

Tue Oct 5 201011:52Azubuike says he'll be ready in two weeks
Kelenna Azubuike (knee) thinks he'll be cleared to practice in two weeks.
Azubuike remains on track for Opening Night, but missing so much training camp is a concern. He'll likely start the season as a reserve behind Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari. Consider Azubuike more of an in-season waiver add than someone to target on draft day.

Wed Sep 22 201015:49Update: Azubuike should be ready for season
Updating an earlier story, Alan Hahn of Newsday reports that Kelenna Azubuike (knee) "should" be ready for the start of the regular season.
This sounds a slightly more positive tune than an earlier report from Marc Berman saying that it "Sounded like [the Knicks] are planning without [Azubuike]." Either way, fantasy owners should expect Azubuike to begin the season slowly due to his ongoing recovery from knee surgery.

Wed Sep 22 201014:27Azubuike unlikely for training camp
Knicks beat writer Marc Berman cites Donnie Walsh as saying that Kelenna Azubuike (knee) will likely miss training camp, but could be ready for the regular season.
Berman adds that it "Sounded like [the Knicks] are planning without him," which obviously doesn't sound too positive. It's possible that Azubuike will be ready for the season opener, but at this point fantasy owners shouldn't count on it.

Tue Sep 7 201015:01Azubuike may be ready by opening night
According to Hoopsworld.com, people close to Kelenna Azubuike (knee) believe that he'll be ready to play by opening night.
Azubuike hasn't resumed basketball activities and isn't likely to participate in training camp. It'll probably take him quite a while to regain his old explosiveness, but he's an intriguing player under Mike D'Antoni and the Knicks don't have a clear-cut starting SG.

Sat Sep 4 201010:31Kelenna Azubuike 'nowhere near' ready to play
Knicks swingman Kelenna Azubuike "is nowhere near ready for training camp," according to Newsday.
Beat writer Alan Hahn notes that "the team isn't expecting [Azubuike] to be available for the start of training camp, which opens Sept. 25." It's hard to overstate the severity of a torn patellar tendon for an NBA player -- suffice to say, Kelenna had surgery 10 months ago but is still unable to run or jump.

Fri Aug 27 201001:50Azubuike to miss training camp?
Kelenna Azubuike is not yet running or jumping, which suggests that he isn't close to returning to the Knicks and may miss training camp.
Azubuike was expected to compete for the starting SG job, but it's looking like he will start training camp on the sidelines because of lingering concerns over his surgically repaired left knee. With his three-point and rebounding potential, Azubuike is a nice late-round fantasy sleeper, however it all depends on if he can get healthy before the start of the season.

Tue Aug 3 201014:25Azubuike could start over Chandler
Tom Haberstroh of ESPN.com thinks that Kelenna Azubuike (once healthy) could beat out Wilson Chandler for the starting shooting guard gig.
Azubuike is questionable for the start of the season after undergoing surgery to address right patella tendinitis. He's more athletic than Chandler and a better rebounder, which are two things coach Mike D'Antoni needs. It's a battle to watch once Azubuike gets on the court. Chandler needs to start making shots to keep getting minutes.

Sat Jul 10 201005:05Azubuike now a member of the Knicks
Kelenna Azubuike has been traded to the Knicks in the David Lee deal.
'Buike should be a solid player for the Knicks, however, his surgically repaired knee has been slow to heal leaving him questionable for the start of the season.
Fri Jun 25 201019:08Azubuike slow to heal, camp in jeopardy
Matt Steinmetz is reporting that Kelenna Azubuike is not healing quickly and there's a chance he won't be 100 percent by the start of the season.
He had right knee surgery in May and is now iffy for training camp.

Thu May 13 201020:16Azubuike undergoes right knee surgery

He'll be on crutches for a week and then start rehab, meaning he should be ready for the start of training camp.

Tue May 4 201014:06Azubuike picks up player option for next year
As expected, Warriors swingman Kelenna Azubuike picked up his $3.3 million player option for next season.
Azubuike averaged 14.4 points and shot 45% from downtown last season, but played just nine games in 2009-10 because of a terrible knee injury. He should be 100% at some point next season, but his fantasy value is still tethered to Nellie's rotations.
