Sat May 29 201015:21Royals' Meche placed on disabled list
Royals placed RHP Gil Meche on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder bursitis.
Meche hasn't been effective this year even when he's been healthy, which he no longer is. He is 0-4 with a 6.66 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP so far this season. His replacement in the rotation, Bruce Chen, may not fare much better but at least he'll be different.
Tue May 25 201023:24Meche rocked for 4 HRs in loss to Rangers
Gil Meche gave up four homers and six runs -- four earned -- over six innings Tuesday in a no-decision versus the Rangers.
Texas' offense had little problem slapping Meche around on Tuesday, an event that has become something of a recurring theme this season, as evidenced by his ominous 6.66 season ERA. Meche allowed only one additional hit to the four home runs while walking three and striking out five. He is not a recommended fantasy option against the Red Sox next time out.
Fri May 14 201023:56Meche has another nice outing
Gil Meche made Ned Yost a winner in his Royals managerial debut on Friday night, yielding just one run over six innings against the White Sox.
Meche took a no-decision, but it's his second straight solid outing after a miserable start to the year. He's starting to come around, but is still having control problems and is always an injury risk. Meche is waiver-wire fodder.
Tue May 4 201001:04Royals' Meche takes loss to White Sox
Gil Meche lowered his ERA to 9.89 by allowing five runs over five innings in a loss to the White Sox on Monday.
Progress! It's the second time all season that he's had an ERA under 10.00. The only other occasion was the first inning of his first start, when he got one out before giving up his first run. Of course, it's not a lot of progress. Meche gave up nine hits and three walks (one intentional) to a lousy White Sox offense tonight, and he struck out just two. He's far from being an option in fantasy leagues.
Wed Apr 28 201017:19Royals' Meche gives up five runs to Mariners
Gil Meche gave up five runs in six innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Mariners.
Meche still hasn't turned in a quality start in four tries, but at least he did fan a season-high five today. He's not an option in AL-only leagues right now.
Sun Apr 25 201011:02Meche's issues don't seem to be mechanical
Royals manager Trey Hillman told the Kansas City Star that the team did not believe that Gil Meche's struggles were related to a mechanical flaw in his delivery.
On one hand, this is a good thing, since Meche has lengthy injury history and a mechanical flaw in his delivery could be indicative of a larger issue. On the other hand, this means that Meche has just been bad. Not injured, not working out a kink, just very, very hittable. He's 0-2 with an ERA of 11.37 and a WHIP of 2.45 in three starts so far this season.

Sat Apr 24 201000:20Meche gets lit up again
Gil Meche was lit up for four earned runs in just 3 1/3 innings of work against the Twins on Friday night.
Meche has been shelled in all three of his starts this season. In his defense he has faced the Twins twice and the Red Sox once, but we get the feeling that his shoulder isn't quite right. Even against the Mariners next week, we wouldn't use him in AL-only leagues.
Sat Apr 17 201016:23Meche gives up five runs in no-decision
Gil Meche was knocked around for five runs over six innings as part of a no-decision in a loss to the Twins on Saturday afternoon.
Meche owns an 11.57 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and a 7/5 K/BB ratio over his first two starts. Remember that he missed the latter part of spring training due to shoulder stiffness, so he's probably not at full strength quite yet. As such, he shouldn't be used in AL-only leagues against the Rays next week.
Sun Apr 11 201018:39Royals' Meche pounded by Red Sox
Gil Meche was roughed up for seven runs in just 3 1/3 innings against the Red Sox.
Meche struck out four, but he also walked three and gave up eight hits, including three doubles and a homer. The $12 million right-hander is looking to rebound from an injury-plagued 2009 campaign, but spring shoulder stiffness says he's probably still not fully healthy. Meche was quite durable during his first two years with the Royals, but he was typically quite the opposite while with the Mariners and a full rebound shouldn't be counted on.
Sun Apr 11 201013:08Meche activated from disabled list
Royals activate RHP Gil Meche from the 15-day disabled list.
Meche gets the Sunday start against the Red Sox, so he'll be tested right away. If he can stay healthy, he and Zack Greinke will make a solid top of the rotation, but staying healthy has been a problem for Meche since he came to Kansas City.
Tue Apr 6 201018:31Meche (shoulder) throws in minor league game
Gil Meche (shoulder) threw 81 pitches over five shutout innings against a team of minor leaguers on Tuesday.
"That was probably as sharp as I've been," said Meche, who gave up two hits and two walks while striking out nine. Meche was placed on the disabled list to begin the season due to shoulder bursitis, but he is eligible to return on Saturday. He'll likely get his first start against the Red Sox on Sunday.

Tue Apr 6 201009:33Meche could return in time for April 11 start
Gil Meche (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound at the Royals' spring training complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Meche will tally between 80 and 90 pitches to minor leaguers over five or six innings. "All systems (are) go," manager Trey Hillman said. "He feels good." If all goes well, he could be activated from the disabled list on April 10 and start against the Red Sox on April 11.
