Sat May 28 201113:18Kyle Davies begins throwing program
Kyle Davies (shoulder) has begun a limited throwing program.
It's a start, but the Royals still have no idea when he'll be ready to start a rehab assignment. There's no timetable for his return.

Tue May 17 201113:15Royals place Kyle Davies on disabled list
Royals placed RHP Kyle Davies on the 15-day disabled list with anterior shoulder soreness.
Davies couldn't even make it through the first inning of his Monday start against the Indians. The Royals are running him through an MRI and should have a better idea on the severity of the injury soon.

Wed May 4 201123:15Davies has rare quality night
Kyle Davies turned in just his third quality start of the season on Wednesday, holding the Orioles to seven hits and three runs in 6 1/3 innings of a Royals loss.
He struck out three and walked three. Despite the "quality" night, Davies' ERA and WHIP still rest at 7.32 and 1.77, respectively, through 35 2/3 innings, making him hard to recommend even in deep AL-only leagues.

Mon Apr 18 201123:46Davies finally quality in 10-inning loss
Kyle Davies turned in six strong innings against the Indians on Monday, allowing just two runs and seven hits while striking out seven in the Royals' 10-inning loss.
He walked none in turning in his first good start of the season. The owner of a 5.56 ERA and 1.62 WHIP through 720 2/3 career innings coming into this evening, there's little reason to expect 2011 to be the year Davies finally turns the page.

Sat Apr 2 201116:24Davies struggles in no-decision vs. Angels
Kyle Davies gave up four runs over 5 1/3 innings as part of a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Angels.
Davies yielded seven hits -- including a solo home run to Torri Hunter -- while fanning two and walking two. He was pulled after allowing four straight hitters to reach base in the top of the sixth inning. Really, it could have been much worse, since Kanekoa Texeira was able to minimize the damage. Davies remains a mediocre fantasy option, even in AL-only leagues.

Mon Mar 28 201118:04Davies ends spring on dominant note
Kyle Davies sailed through his final outing of the spring on Monday, giving up just three hits in six scoreless innings of work against the Brewers.
He struck out six and walked one. A feast or famine pitcher, expect Davies to post his fair share of quality starts this season, only to follow them up with exceedingly poor ones.

Wed Mar 23 201111:47Davies leaves for birth of child
Kyle Davies has left Royals' camp to be present for the birth of his first child.
He should be back within the next few days. Davies has a 5.79 ERA and 15/3 K/BB ratio over five starts this spring and has a spot in the Royals' starting rotation locked up.

Fri Mar 18 201117:54Davies finally has a solid outing
Kyle Davies turned in a decent outing against the Indians on Friday, allowing six hits and two runs in five innings while fanning four.
He walked one. As he has been for most of his major-league career, Davies has been unimpressive this spring, and has done nothing to suggest he might be ready to turn the corner at age 27. He'll be worth an own in AL-only leagues because of the starts he's guaranteed, but that's it.

Sun Mar 13 201118:00Davies shellacked by Brewers
Kyle Davies got roughed up by the Brewers on Sunday, allowing eight hits and five runs in just two innings.
Disappointing, since he struck out four while walking none. His ERA is now 7.00 through nine frames this spring, making it appear as if 2011 will be more of the same from the perennially-disappointing righty.

Thu Mar 3 201116:48Davies goes four innings
Kyle Davies permitted two runs over four innings Thursday against the Angels.
The big blemish was the two-run home run Davies served up to Mark Trumbo. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out three on the day. Barring a catastrophe, Davies will break camp as a member of the rotation, but he's not a safe bet to stay in it for the duration of the season.

Sun Feb 27 201117:41Royals' Davies goes two scoreless in win
Kyle Davies pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three Sunday in a win over the Rangers.
From the "it must be nice" department, Davies got a raise from $1.8 million to $3.2 million over the winter after going 8-11 with a 5.36 ERA last season. Since the Royals have brought in some pitching depth, they could cut him and pay him just $800,000 if he's a bust this spring. The plan, though, is for him to serve as the fourth or fifth starter.
Tue Jan 18 201110:47Royals ink Davies to pre-arb. agreement
Royals and RHP Kyle Davies avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year contract.
Davies finished with a disappointing 8-11 record, 5.36 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 32 starts last year and was a possible non-tender candidate this winter. But the Royals need starting rotation depth and will pay him a raise over the $1.8 million that he earned in 2010 despite the bad results.

Mon Nov 15 201014:51Royals likely to tender contract to Davies
The Royals appear likely to tender a contract this winter to arbitration-eligible right-hander Kyle Davies.
Davies has not turned into the kind of solid No. 3 starter that the Royals were hoping for. But he is only 27 and seems to have GM Dayton Moore's backing. "Kyle is arbitration eligible," Moore said Monday, "but I think Kyle Davies' best years are ahead of him as he continues to get a little bit better." He's due a raise from the $1.8 million that he earned in 2010.

Sat Oct 2 201022:16Kyle Davies allows four earned in loss
Kyle Davies allowed four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday as the Royals dropped one to the Rays.
Pretty much par for the course. Davies, 27, turned in an 8-11 record, 5.36 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 32 starts this season. He struck out 124 batters and 77, showing a consistent lack of both control and effectiveness. The 27-year-old will need to make improvements over the winter.
Mon Sep 27 201023:29Davies blasted for seven runs
Kyle Davies was hammered for seven runs over 3 1/3 innings Monday but left with a no-decision in a 10-8 win over the Twins.
He appeared to settle in over the next two innings after a rough first, but he was then pounded again in the fourth. Davies allowed eight hits, walked three and struck out just one. He's given up 16 runs over his last three stars and now holds a 5.31 ERA on the year. The righty will face the Rays in his final outing.
Wed Sep 22 201021:46Davies goes eight strong but loses
Kyle Davies yielded four earned runs over eight innings in a loss to the Tigers on Wednesday night.
Davies was perfect through four innings and ended up with his second-longest outing of the season. It wasn't close to enough. The Royals couldn't muster a single run until the ninth inning in the 4-2 loss. Davies is way off the fantasy radar.
Sat Sep 11 201022:25Davis pitches well, Royals upset White Sox
Kyle Davies delivered six innings of one-run ball Saturday in a surprising 8-2 victory over the White Sox.
Um, OK. Davis, who still has an ugly 4.95 ERA and 1.53 WHIP on the year, handled the White Sox's lineup with ease. He struck out five batters, issued only two walks and surrendered only five hits. The righty will get the Indians next but we wouldn't count on a repeat performance.
Mon Aug 30 201022:52Davies goes 8-plus in loss to Rangers
Kyle Davies allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 8 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Monday night.
Yes, the Royals lost the game, however it was Davies' longest start since he threw a complete game against the Mets on April 18, 2006 as a member of the Braves. Granted, Davies was blasted for seven runs in his last start, but he has allowed three runs or less in nine out of his last 11 starts since the start of July. He should at least be worth a try in deeper AL-only formats.
Thu Aug 19 201023:46Davies pitches well in loss
Kyle Davies allowed three runs over 7 1/3 innings in Thursday's loss to the Indians.
The right-hander gave up seven hits, walked no one and struck out five. He cruised through seven scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the eighth and watched his bullpen predictably struggle. Davies has a 5.14 ERA on the year but has pitched respectably in the second half and is a worthy low-end AL-only starter. He'll face the Tigers his next time out.
Wed Aug 4 201001:21Davies takes no-decision vs. A's
Kyle Davies yielded two runs (one earned) in five innings as part of a no-decision against the Athletics on Tuesday night.
That line looks pretty decent, but Davies was all over the place, walking five and throwing just 54 out of 95 pitches for strikes. He now ranks third in the American League with 57 walks over 118 1/3 innings. That's not a list you don't want to be on. With a 5.32 WHIP and 1.56 WHIP through 21 starts this season, there's nothing to be optimistic about here. He should be avoided in all formats.
