Levo left with the lead, but his bullpen blew the opportunity for a win. The Nationals had been shut out in each of Hernandez's last three starts, so he has to be frustrated. The veteran struck out four, walked one and gave up five hits and two homers. Hernandez is now 3-6 with a 3.71 ERA. He'll take on the Phillies next week.

Livan Hernandez hurled seven innings of one-run ball in a tough luck loss to the Marlins on Saturday afternoon.

All told, Hernandez scattered six hits while striking our four and walking a pair. He now has a respectable 3.92 ERA over his first eight starts. He shouldn't be trusted in mixed leagues, but remains a reliable innings eater.

Sun Apr 17 201121:17Livan's strong April continues Sunday
Livan Hernandez picked up his second win Sunday, yielded just one earned run over seen innings against the Brewers.
Hernandez struck out three, walked none and scattered six hits. Outside of one blowup against the Marlins on Apr. 6, Hernandez has been impressive so far. It's similar to last April, when Hernandez went 3-1 with a 0.87 ERA. He ended that season with a 10-12 record and 3.66 ERA. With limited strikeout upside, Hernandez will be a high-risk option in Pittsburgh next time out.

Livan Hernandez left his start Saturday after four innings due to a stiff neck.

Fri Mar 11 201121:22Hernandez knocked around by Astros
Livan Hernandez gave up three runs on seven hits over three innings in Friday's loss to the Astros.
Livo was originally expected to go five innings, but he was pulled after throwing 77 pitches. It's worth nothing that his defense didn't help him much tonight, but he's always at risk for starts like this because so many balls are going to be put into play against him. He's going to eat innings for the Nats again this season, but just don't expect him to be a reliable fantasy option.

Hernandez will start on Opening Day for the Nationals. The veteran innings eater finished with a 3.66 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 33 starts last season.

Tue Feb 15 201112:57Livan to start Opening Day for Nationals
Livan Hernandez will start on Opening Day for the Nationals.
Nats manager Jim Riggleman made the announcement Tuesday at spring training, giving the veteran Hernandez the nod over some of the club's other younger options. Livan finished with a 3.66 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 33 starts last season. He doesn't have the kind of strikeout rate that you'd want in a top fantasy starter, but he is a fine innings eater.

Sun Oct 3 201017:38Hernandez strong in Nationals' 14-inning win
Livan Hernandez pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball, and the Nationals beat the Mets 2-1 in 14 innings Sunday.
Joel Peralta pitched scoreless 12th and 13th innings for his first victory since 2008. Miguel Batista actually ended up with the save after the Nationals scored on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the 14th. Hernandez ends his miracle season 10-12 with a 3.66 ERA. It's his best ERA since 2004.
Mon Sep 20 201022:33Livo handed loss vs. Astros
Livan Hernandez was tagged for eight runs -- four earned -- over five innings in a loss to the Astros on Monday night.
A performance fitting of the smallest crowd in team history, the Nationals committed three errors in a seven-run fifth inning. Hernandez served up a pair of homers in the nightmare frame. Now 10-12 with a 3.75 ERA on the year, he'll try to play spoiler against the Braves this weekend.
Tue Sep 14 201022:08Livo plays spoiler vs. Braves
Livan Hernandez hurled eight shutout frames in a 6-0 win over the Braves on Tuesday night.
Happy to play the role of spoiler, Livo not only limited the Braves to five hits -- all singles -- while fanning six and walking two, he also collected an RBI double and a solo home run. It was his longest outing since July 22. Believe it or not, Hernandez is the first Nationals' pitcher to reach 10 wins since Tim Redding in 2008. He's not a solid fantasy option, but he has put together his best season since his last stint with Washington from 2005-2006.
Fri Sep 3 201022:46Hernandez hammered in loss to Pirates
Livan Hernandez was tagged for eight runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Pirates on Friday night.
Hernandez was knocked around for eight hits -- including a solo home run by Ryan Doumit in the fourth inning -- while striking out four and walking two. Call it natural regression if you like, but Livo has allowed 20 runs over his last three starts, increasing his ERA from 3.06 to 3.81 on the year. The Cuban right-hander will continue to be an innings-eater for the Nats over the next year, but he's not likely to repeat his superficial success next season.
Mon Aug 23 201022:41Livo knocked around in loss to Cubs
Livan Hernandez was smoked for seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Monday night.
Livo threw 121 pitches in the loss. According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, it's the fourth most in a start lasting less than five innings since they started keeping track of such things in 1952. Rob Dibble respects that. Hernandez's ERA now stands at 3.36, its highest point since the last time he allowed more than three runs in a start on July 11. He'll look to turn things around against the Cardinals this weekend, though we wouldn't recommend him in mixed leagues.
