Fri Feb 17 201214:54Mike Gonzalez to re-sign with Rangers?
Ken Rosenthal thinks that if the Rangers trade Koji Uehara to the Athletics as expected, their next move will be to re-sign Mike Gonzalez.
Getting Uehara's $4 million off the books would theoretically clear space to add Roy Oswalt, but Rosenthal doesn't expect that to happen. Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com also recently reported that the chances were still "slim" that Oswalt winds up with the Rangers. Gonzalez, though, can be had relatively cheaply and won't disrupt the Rangers rotation. He posted a 2.86 ERA in the second half last season while holding left-handed batters to a .171 batting average.

Mon Feb 13 201213:34A's in talks with left-hander Mike Gonzalez
According to Buster Olney, the A's are "in talks" with free agent left-hander Mike Gonzalez.
The A's are really turning up the heat as spring training nears. They came out of nowhere to sign Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on Monday, they remain in contact with Manny Ramirez, and they're now considering adding Gonzalaez. The 31-year-old southpaw posted a 2.86 ERA in the second half last season while holding left-handed batters to a .171 batting average.

Mon Feb 13 201213:13A's intereted in Mike Gonzalez
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Athletics are looking to add a reliever and free agent left-hander Mike Gonzalez "remains a possibility."
Rosenthal notes that the A's are still interested in Manny Ramirez despite the signing of Yoenis Cespedes, but they want to add a reliever first. They've talked to the Rangers about a trade for Koji Uehara, but signing Gonzalez might be more likely at this point. The southpaw posted a 4.27 ERA and 1.38 WHIP last season for Baltimore and Texas, but he was good in the second half, holding a 2.86 ERA while limiting left-handed batters to a .171 average.

Thu Jan 5 201218:53Rangers reviewing Gonzalez's medical records
According to ESPN's Richard Durrett, the Rangers have requested Mike Gonzalez's medical records.
Gonzalez underwent a scope of his left knee this offseason, and the Rangers want to know how his recovery is going before considering bringing him back for the 2012 season. The free agent left-hander registered an underwhelming 4.27 ERA and 1.38 WHIP last season for Baltimore and Texas, but he's still fairly effective against left-handed batters.

Sat Dec 10 201112:21Rangers check in with Mike Gonzalez, Fielder
Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Rangers have ''checked in'' with agent Scott Boras on Mike Gonzalez and Prince Fielder.
An NL executive added that the Rangers have an interest in signing Fielder and could trade Mitch Moreland to the Rays for Wade Davis. However, both reports should be taken with a grain of salt, as neither scenario appears to be likely. Gonzalez posted a 4.15 ERA in eight postseason appearances with Texas, and was an important part of late-inning junctures during both the ALDS and AL Championship Series.

Fri Dec 9 201113:34Cardinals interested in Mike Gonzalez
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have had discussions with the agent of free agent left-hander Mike Gonzalez.
The Cards have also checked in on J.C. Romero in their pursuit of a second lefty to pair with Marc Rzepczynski. Gonzalez held a 4.27 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2011 for the Orioles and Rangers, but he struck out a batter per inning and posted a 2.86 ERA after the All-Star break while holding left-handed batters to a .171 average.

Fri Dec 2 201115:06Yankees interested in Mike Gonzalez
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Yankees are interested in free agent left-handed reliever Mike Gonzalez.
The Yankees were burned by Pedro Feliciano, but they won't let that keep them from spending on another southpaw reliever. Gonzalez held a 4.27 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2011 for the Orioles and Rangers, but he struck out a batter per inning and posted a 2.86 ERA after the All-Star break while holding left-handed batters to a .171 average.

Wed Aug 31 201115:37Rangers acquire Mike Gonzalez from Orioles
Rangers acquired LHP Mike Gonzalez from the Orioles for a player to be named later.
Gonzalez has been dominant this month, but has held left-handed batters to a measly .211/.253/.322 batting line and a .575 OPS this season. Rangers GM Jon Daniels has done quite the overhaul with his bullpen over the past month. It doesn't sound like the Orioles are sending any cash the Rangers way, so we would be surprised if they got anything of value in return.

Wed Aug 31 201114:38Report: Mike Gonzalez could be dealt
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com speculates that Mike Gonzalez could be dealt before the waiver deadline.
Gonzalez has passed through waivers and the Orioles can trade him to any team. The 33-year-old left-hander hasn't allowed a run this month, posting a perfect 15/0 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings. He is still owed roughly $1 million of his $6 million salary for this season, but a contender could be willing to take the hit. Morosi mentions the Rangers as one potential suitor.

Sat Jul 16 201121:51Mike Gonzalez earns first save
Mike Gonzalez earned his first save of the season in Saturday's 6-5 victory over the Indians.
Kevin Gregg entered the game to a 6-2 lead but quickly coughed up three earned runs while only retiring two batters. Gonzalez was tasked with recording the final out, and did so by getting Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore to ground out. For now, Gregg remains the closer in Baltimore. But his leash is certainly getting smaller.

Fri Apr 29 201108:29Mike Gonzalez encouraged by appearance
Mike Gonzalez was encouraged by his performance Thursday despite giving up two runs and allowing three of the four runners he faced reach base.
Gonzalez was able to hit 94-95 mph after sitting in the low 90s in previous outings this season. Orioles manager Buck Showalter also thought the appearance was an improvement. "I thought Gonzo probably had the best stuff he's had this year, as far as just quality stuff," Showalter said. "Because he's having some struggles here and there, it's tough to get him out there enough to get it under control like we know he's capable of. It's good to see his stuff get better tonight. If he keeps bringing that type of stuff, he'll have some success." The setup man holds a 13.50 ERA in seven games this season.

Mon Feb 14 201110:12Gonzalez OK with being set-up man
Mike Gonzalez said he's fine with being a set-up man to either Koji Uehara or Kevin Gregg.
"[My role] has changed, but I feel good about the situation," said Gonzalez, who was limited to just 29 appearances last season due to a shoulder injury. "I'm at the point right now where I feel that I want to prove in any way possible that I'm good and I'm healthy, and it's more myself than anything else. I'm just excited about coming in here and getting going." The Orioles are set to pay Gonzalez $6 million this season.

Sun Sep 12 201016:29Orioles' Gonzalez returns to action
Mike Gonzalez, who has been battling neck and back soreness this week, returned to action for the Orioles on Sunday and gave up two runs while recording just one out.
Gonzalez finished off the seventh inning for the Orioles, but then gave up a single and double to start the eighth. David Hernandez did him Gonzalez no favors after replacing him, allowing both inherited runners to score. With Koji Uehara pitching well in the ninth, don't expect the Orioles to make a change any time soon.
Sun Sep 12 201009:07Gonzalez available to pitch
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Mike Gonzalez was available out of the bullpen Saturday.
The reliever had been unavailable the previous two days due to soreness in his neck and back. Gonzalez has pitched very well in the second half since coming off the DL, posting a 2.87 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 9.8 K/9 rate.

Tue Aug 10 201018:36O's place Mike Gonzalez on waivers
A major league source tells Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that the Orioles have placed left-hander Mike Gonzalez on waivers.
Don't get too excited about this. Cafardo speculates that the Red Sox -- as well as other contenders -- could put in a claim sometime in the next 48 hours, but keep in mind that he is under contract for $6 million next season. The O's would probably happily give that commitment away.
