Wed Sep 7 201102:16Jorge Posada homers versus Orioles
In the lineup over Jesus Montero, Jorge Posada homered and scored twice Tuesday against the Orioles.
It was Posada's first start since Aug. 30. The Yankees won't forget about him, but he'll have to show something in limited action to guarantee himself a spot on the postseason roster.

Thu Aug 25 201119:14Jorge Posada appears at second base
Jorge Posada made his major league debut at second base in Thursday's blowout of the A's.
Manager Joe Girardi stuck Posada at second base in the ninth inning of a 22-8 game, and he handled an Anthony Recker grounder to end it, though he did bounce the throw to first. Posada was originally a second baseman in the minors, but this is the first time in 20 years that he's played the position in a game.

Mon Aug 15 201117:01Posada to DH Monday vs. Royals
Jorge Posada will serve as the designated hitter Monday night against the Royals.
He'll bat eighth against right-hander Felipe Paulino. Posada was told just over a week ago that he would no longer be the primary DH against right-handed pitching, but he's getting another shot Monday after going 3-for-5 with a grand slam and a season-high six RBI against the Rays on Saturday.

Mon Aug 15 201112:04Posda wants to continue playing in 2012
Jorge Posada said Sunday that he plans to continue his baseball career next season.
Posada is set to become a free agent this winter and it's doubtful the Yankees will look to re-sign him after such a poor 2011. But other teams could came calling, and the 39-year-old veteran intends to listen. Granted, he's nothing more than a designated hitter at this point.

Sat Aug 13 201119:33Posada slugs GS, drives in six vs. Rays
Jorge Posada busted out against the Rays on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam and six RBI.
We hope Jesus Montero didn't pack his bags for the Bronx yet. Posada had a two-run single in the second inning and a grand slam in five-run fifth inning. The six RBI are his most in one game since September 6, 2006. Just to put his recent struggles into perspective, he had just one home run and six RBI over his previous 29 games. We're obviously not ready to say he's back yet, but it will be interesting to see if he is in the starting lineup Sunday against right-hander James Shields.

Mon Aug 8 201108:19Posada no longer DHing against right-handers
Jorge Posada was told Sunday that he will no longer be the team's DH against right-handers.
"He said he was going to put the best lineup on the field, and he doesn't know when I'm going to DH again," Posada said. "So right now I'm sitting on the bench." The promotion of Jesus Montero may be imminent.

Sun Aug 7 201118:49Girardi: DH Posada's at-bats to decrease
Yankees manager Joe Girardi told Jorge Posada Sunday that Posada's at-bats could diminish.
Posada had already been in a platoon at DH, but now Girardi appears to want both Eduardo Nunez and Eric Chavez in the lineup against right-handed pitching. "We're going to see how this works," Girardi said. "We're going to try some different things. We'll see how this works, and I told Jorge, 'You're still going to be a big part of this, and we're going to need you. We're just going to do some different things.'" Posada is batting just .230 with nine homers and 31 RBI through 317 plate appearances. Clearly New York is searching for an upgrade over a .681 OPS at the DH spot.

Sat Jul 23 201109:04Jorge Posada slumping
Jorge Posada is hitting just .160 (8-for-50) with no homers over his last 17 games.
It hasn't been magnified because the Yankees can still mash even when Posada isn't hitting, but the soon-to-be 40-year-old has been pretty awful most of the season, batting just .224/.307/.376. Posada wouldn't commit to returning for a 17th season. "I'm keeping the option open and see what happens," he said.

Thu Jun 16 201112:05Posada to DH Thursday vs. Rangers
Jorge Posada will serve as the designated hitter in Thursday's game against the Rangers.
An interesting move by Joe Girardi against the southpaw C.J. Wilson. While Posada is swinging the bat much better recently, he is just 3-for-34 (.088) against left-handed pitching this season.

Thu Jun 16 201105:20Girardi sees Posada as 'emergency' catcher
Before Wednesday's game, Yankees manager Joe Girardi acknowledged that Jorge Posada presently is the team's "emergency" catcher.
With Russell Martin sidelined and Jesus Montero not ready for a promotion, Francisco Cervelli's health is the only thing standing between Posada and a catcher's mask. Posada insisted he's ready if needed, though he has not practiced any catching duties since spring training.

Mon Jun 13 201104:13Posada rebounds in June
Jorge Posada went 2-for-3 on Sunday, helping the Yankees earn a 9-1 victory over the Indians.
Posada is hitting 13-for-22 (.591) during his current six-game hitting streak, raising his batting average from .169 to .226. However, with no home runs since April 23, and with a 39-year-old frame, don't expect the Yankee veteran to provide anything more than modest catcher numbers going forward.

Thu Jun 9 201115:40Posada back in Thursday's lineup
Jorge Posada is back in Thursday's lineup against the Red Sox as the designated hitter.
Posada missed Wednesday's game after his 11-year-old son underwent surgery earlier in the day. He'll bat seventh Thursday against right-hander Josh Beckett.

Wed Jun 1 201112:25Posada not in Wednesday's lineup vs. A's
Jorge Posada is out of the lineup for the second straight day Wednesday against the Athletics.
Again, an expected move against the left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Alex Rodriguez will be the designated hitter Wednesday while Eduardo Nunez plays third base.

Tue May 31 201118:39Posada out of Tuesday's lineup
Jorge Posada is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Athletics.
It's fair to say that Posada will not play against left-handers moving forward. Andruw Jones will be the designated hitter Tuesday and bat eighth against Brett Anderson.

Mon May 30 201109:15Posada has lost everyday status
Chad Jennings of The Journal News writes that Jorge Posada has "lost his everyday status."
Posada is no longer drawing starts against left-handers and can barely be considered the Yankees' full-time designated hitter. The 39-year-old is batting just .174/.292/.348 across 154 plate appearances this year. He only has fantasy value when the Yanks are facing a right-handed starter.

Tue May 24 201109:42Posada 0-for-26 against left-handed pitching
Jorge Posada is 0-for-26 against left-handed pitchers so far this season.
Posada's beef with management is over, but his struggles at the plate remain a consistent theme. The 39-year-old designated hitter finished 0-for-4 on Monday night and is now batting just .176/.295/.352 on the year.

Sat May 21 201115:49Posada not in Saturday's lineup
Jorge Posada is out of Saturday's lineup against the Mets.
Not a big surprise against the left-hander Chris Capuano. Alex Rodriguez will be the designated hitter Saturday while Eduardo Nunez plays third base.

Thu May 19 201111:47Report: Yanks would consider releasing Posada
Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Yankees will "reconsider Jorge Posada's future with the team" if he doesn't improve before the All-Star break.
That's a nice way of saying Posada would be released, as it would be difficult to find a team who would take on the remainder of his $13 million salary for this season. Besides, his contract includes a no-trade clause, so he would be able to control his own destiny to a certain extent. Posada, 39, is batting .179/.287/.366 over his first 129 plate appearances this season.

Wed May 18 201115:42Posada out of Wednesday's lineup vs. Orioles
Jorge Posada is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Orioles.
Not completely unexpected against the left-hander Zach Britton. The forecast isn't promising in Baltimore on Wednesday night, but assuming they play, Derek Jeter will be the designated hitter while Eduardo Nunez starts at shortstop.

Tue May 17 201119:19Girardi will go day-to-day with DH duties
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he'll go day-to-day with the DH duties and that no one is guaranteed playing time.
In case you didn't already realize it, Jorge Posada has been put on notice. If he doesn't turn things around, he's at risk of not only losing his starting job, but possibly his roster spot. Jesus Montero is an option to take over the Yanks' DH duties at some point.
