Tue May 17 201117:54Pat Burrell knocks in two runs
Starting against a right-hander for the first time since May 1, Pat Burrell went 2-for-4 with a two-run double Tuesday against the Rockies.
Burrell drew the start against Ubaldo Jimenez and drove in two-thirds of the Giants' runs on the day to make his case for additional playing time. He had been limited to starting versus southpaws of late.

Fri May 13 201113:07Pat Burrell not happy in understudy role
Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Friday that Pat Burrell isn't happy with his bench role.
Burrell hasn't started since Monday and has often been relegated to a bench role since Cody Ross and Andres Torres were activated from the DL. It's not surprising, as the Giants have a glut out outfielders and not everyone can play. Winners of six straight, they're unlikely to switch things up now. Burrell will draw the start in left field Saturday against the Cubs' Doug Davis.

Tue Apr 12 201100:57Giants' Burrell hits fourth homer
Pat Burrell went 2-for-2 with a solo homer and two walks Monday versus the Dodgers.
Burrell is just 5-for-27 on the season, but four of his hits have been homers. Unfortunately, all four of those homers have also been solo shots and he hasn't driven in another run in his nine games.

Thu Mar 31 201123:03Pat Burrell goes deep
Pat Burrell accounted for the Giants' only run Thursday, belting a solo home run in the 2-1 loss to the Dodgers.
He took closer Jonathan Broxton deep in the ninth, one of five hits the defending champs had on the night. Burrell will see the most at-bats in left field for the Giants for the time being, but he figures to sit out a couple days per week and his playing time could really be cut when Cody Ross returns.

Sat Mar 26 201112:54Pat Burrell the favorite for left field job
Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Pat Burrell is the favorite for the left field job.
"Yeah, I'd say that's the way it looks," Bochy said. The most important thing that comes out of this news is not that Burrell is likely to start, it's that it probably means Brandon Belt will begin the season at Triple-A. It's not a surprise, as Burrell in left and Aubrey Huff at first base has been the most likely setup, with Belt likely getting a call-up in June. It's possible Huff could get some time in right field while Cody Ross is out. Mark DeRosa will be used in a utility role.

Sat Mar 12 201118:45Burrell sends out one
Pat Burrell went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and two runs scores in the 8-7 win over the Dodgers Saturday.
It's Pat the Bat's second longball of the spring. Burrell is the favorite to earn most of the playing time in left field this season, but he'll have to share the position with Mark DeRosa and could get pushed aside once Brandon Belt is ready.

Mon Feb 21 201116:06Burrell misses camp for root canal
Pat Burrell was excused from workouts Monday because he was getting a root canal.
That's no fun. Assuming everything goes well, Burrell should be back in camp in the next day or two. The 34-year-old outfielder re-signed with the Giants this winter and should be the regular left fielder with the club in 2011, at least to begin the year.

Fri Dec 3 201012:15Giants re-sign Pat Burrell to $1M contract
Giants re-signed OF Pat Burrell to a one-year, $1 million contract.
The deal does not include any performance-based incentives. Burrell, 34, posted a spectacular 872 OPS, 18 home runs and 51 RBI after joining the Giants in late May of 2010. He won't manage that kind of production next season, but if he comes close it will be money well spent for San Francisco.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury news reports that the Giants have re-signed Pat Burrell to a "discounted, one-year contract."

Thu Nov 11 201011:41Braves have interest in Pat Burrell
According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Braves "have seemingly shown some interest" in free agent outfielder Pat Burrell.
The Braves would love to add a right-handed bat to balance their lefty-heavy lineup, but early indications are that Burrell might be too expensive. Instead, Bowman believes they may focus on names like Josh Willingham and Rajai Davis in the trade market.

Fri Nov 5 201016:25Burrell to be reserve if he returns to Giants
Pat Burrell would likely be a reserve if he returns to the Giants next season.
Manager Bruce Bochy is said to value Burrell's clubhouse presence, but the Giants will have Mark DeRosa back next season as an option for left field. Burrell provided some pop for the Giants in the second half, but he was just 6-for-42 during the playoffs, which included a hitless World Series.

Mon Nov 1 201016:18Burrell returns to lineup as DH in Game 5
Pat Burrell is back in the starting lineup as the designated hitter in Game 5 of the World Series against the Rangers on Monday night.
Burrell was benched in Game 4, but he's back in there against the left-hander Cliff Lee. Giants manager Bruce Bochy has added another righty bat to the lineup in the form of Aaron Rowand. He'll bat eighth and play center field, moving Andres Torres over to right. Postseason hero Cody Ross moves into the cleanup spot and will play left field. Aubrey Huff, who was the DH in Game 4, returns to first base.

Mon Nov 1 201008:50Burrell expected to return for Game 5
Pat Burrell will return to the Giants' lineup for Game 5.
Burrell sat out Sunday as the Giants took a 3-1 lead in the Fall Classic with yet another victory over the Rangers. He has not been seeing the ball well and doesn't play good outfield defense, but San Francisco skipper Bruce Bochy is hoping that the day off will have helped him refocus.

Sun Oct 31 201010:58Burrell likely to start Sunday
The San Francisco Chronicle's Bruce Jenkins says the "smart money" is on Pat Burrell starting in Game 4.
Burrell took the golden sombrero in Game 3 and is 0-for-9 with eight strikeouts during the World Series. "I picked a bad time to struggle, there's no way around it," Burrell said. "I got some pitches to hit, but I'm chasing too many balls out of the strike zone." The Giants could possibly turn to Aaron Rowand or Nate Schierholtz, but, as Jenkins noted, they'll probably stick with Burrell despite his struggles.

Tue Oct 26 201008:51Giants likely to DH Burrell during Series
The Giants are likely to start Pat Burrell at DH against left-handed starters in the World Series.
Burrell should see a few starts against right-handers as well, but the Giants will want to keep Pablo Sandoval at least somewhat active. While not exactly explosive, those two represent a serious upgrade from the DH options that San Francisco boasted when the club went to the World Series back in 2002 -- guys like Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Shawon Dunston and Pedro Feliz.

Wed Aug 18 201021:46Burrell stays hot
Pat Burrell homered in Citizens Bank Park again on Wednesday, this time taking Joe Blanton deep for a solo job.
Burrell is reveling in his return to Philadelphia. He got a standing ovation when he was introduced on Tuesday night and then promptly jacked a homer to his familiar left field stands. Burrell now has six homers and 16 RBI in his last 16 games and will keep getting starts while he's hot. However, we expect the bottom to fall out here sooner rather than later.
Thu Aug 12 201019:09Burrell's homers lead Giants past Cubs
Pat Burrell blasted two more homers -- the second his sixth career grand slam -- to help the Giants beat the Cubs 8-7 on Thursday.
The Giants blew a four-run lead over the course of the seventh and eighth, but they came back to win it on Andres Torres single to deep center with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Burrell has hit 10 homers in 154 at-bats since joining the Giants. He's batting .389 with four homers and 12 RBI in 11 games this month.
Thu Aug 12 201001:13Burrell's homer leads Giants to win
Pat Burrell had a two-run single in the first and a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth to lead the Giants to a 5-4 win over the Cubs on Wednesday.
It was a 4-4 game when starters Tom Gorzelanny and Barry Zito left, so this one came down to the pens, and Burrell was able to get to Justin Berg for the homer in the eighth. Meanwhile, Sergio Romo and Brian Wilson combined to work 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the Giants. Burrell is hitting .375 with two homers, six doubles and seven walks in 10 games games this month.
