Hickson (knee) has been suspended five games without pay for violating the NBA's Anti-Drug Program, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Hickson is already attempting to come back from tearing his right ACL back in March, so his suspension marks another reason why he'll miss at least five games this season. While Hickson hopes to be ready for training camp, the timetable for returning from ACL surgery is usually fluctuates, so it's unclear when to expect the big man back on the court. Nonetheless, Hickson will miss at least five games for his drug policy violation.
Thu May 29 201409:34J.J. Hickson hopes for training camp return
J.J. Hickson (ACL surgery) is eyeing a return to the court by training camp after undergoing surgery in May.
Just two months into his rehab, Hickson is pleased with his progress and is hoping to be back with the Nuggets by training camp. "My rehab is going great," he said. "I've got a good spirit about myself right now. I'm in a good place. I don't think I was ever down. It still hasn't hit me that I tore my ACL, but I know what I'm dealing with and I'm ready for the challenge." There were reports recently that had the big man out until January, but Hickson denied that timetable, "That's false," he said. "I'm looking to be ready for training camp. If not, definitely before the season starts." We're guessing training camp might be a bit ambitious, but fantasy owners should keep Hickson on their draft boards unless he experiences any setbacks.

Sat May 17 201418:39J.J. Hickson (ACL) targeting January return
J.J. Hickson (ACL surgery) expects to return to the court in January, according to CSNNW.com.
Hickson had surgery in late March and his 10-month timetable is typical for a torn ACL, though every player's injury and recovery is unique. He played 27 minutes per game with Denver last season but was nowhere near providing fantasy value in typical leagues, due largely to his awful 51.7 percent FT shooting on 4.2 attempts per game.

Tue Mar 25 201415:05J.J. Hickson has ACL surgery on Tuesday
J.J. Hickson had surgery on Tuesday to repair his torn right ACL.
Hickson, who is owed a guaranteed $11 million over the next two seasons, may not be fully recovered in time for opening day of the 2014-15 season. The Nuggets are currently relying on Timofey Mozgov, Jan Vesely and Anthony Randolph to step up with both Hickson and JaVale McGee out of the picture with injuries.

Sat Mar 22 201417:06J.J. Hickson suffers torn ACL, out for season
An MRI on Saturday revealed J.J. Hickson suffered a torn right ACL and will miss the rest of the season.
He suffered the injury on Friday night in the fourth quarter and this is the first noteworthy knee injury of his career. Hickson will likely miss the beginning of next year due to the injury and will remain under contract with the Nuggets. With Hickson out, the Nuggets will likely go with a smaller lineup and actually went with a lineup of Ty Lawson, Randy Foye, Evan Fournier and Darrell Arthur for most of the time following Hickson's injury in the fourth. Timofey Mozgov will continue to start while the team is expected to increase Jan Vesely's minutes. Anthony Randolph and Darrell Arthur also project to get more playing time.

Sat Mar 22 201416:08J.J. Hickson (knee) ruled out for Sunday
J.J. Hickson (right knee) will not play against the Wizards on Sunday night.
The team is still awaiting the results of his MRI and we'll pass along those results upon their release. Darrell Arthur and Anthony Randolph figure to get more action with Timofey Mozgov not really capable of playing big minutes. Hickson fantasy owners can look to cut him in a do-or-die situation.

Fri Mar 21 201423:47J.J. Hickson sprains right knee on Friday
J.J. Hickson suffered a right knee sprain on Friday and will have an MRI on Saturday.
He played well with 18 points and eight boards against the Mavericks and the extent of his sprain is not known. Considering the team will give him an MRI, chances are he could miss Sunday's game vs. the Wizards. Timofey Mozgov would see more minutes at center while Anthony Randolph could get in the mix more.

Tue Mar 18 201402:05Hickson goes for 21 and 11 in win over LAC
J.J. Hickson scored 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting with 11 rebounds in Monday's win over the Clippers.
True to form Hickson hit just 3-of-7 free throws and had no other stats. If you're punting 6-7 categories or in a format that rewards scoring and rebounding he could be worth a look, but in the rest of the free world he needs big nightly performances in those two strong areas to be rostered in reasonably sized leagues.

Sat Mar 15 201422:11J.J. Hickson double-doubles off bench
J.J. Hickson came off the bench for 11 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's loss.
Despite being replaced in the starting lineup by Timofey Mozgov, Hickson is playing well off the bench, averaging 13 points and eight rebounds over his last five games.

Sun Mar 9 201421:46J.J. Hickson sweet and sour in Sunday's loss
J.J. Hickson came off the bench for 12 points, nine rebounds, one steal and two blocks in just 19 minutes on Sunday, as the Nuggets fell on the road in New Orleans.
Hickson continues to play well in limited minutes off the bench, a role in which he's averaging 9.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. He made 6-of-9 FGs tonight but also committed seven turnovers and went 0-of-2 at the FT line. He's shooting an abysmal 52.2 percent from the charity stripe this season, on 4.0 attempts per game, which is reason enough to avoid him in most eight- and nine-category leagues.

Sat Mar 8 201400:59Hickson back to the bottom in 15 minutes
J.J. Hickson played just 15 minutes on Friday, scoring eight points on 4-of-8 shooting with five rebounds and one block.
Hickson blocked five shots and went for 16 and five on Wednesday but here is your most recent evidence that he can't be trusted. He hovers around the bottom of the top 200 in standard formats.

Thu Mar 6 201400:35J.J. Hickson blocks five shots off bench
J.J. Hickson came off the bench to hit 8-of-10 shots for 16 points, five rebounds and a season-high five blocks in 26 minutes on Wednesday.
The Nuggets are really trying to make Timofey Mozgov their starting center, but it doesn't seem to be working. Meanwhile, Hickson has played well off the bench and is outplaying Mozgov, averaging 12.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks over his last five.

Fri Feb 28 201401:40J.J. Hickson scores 14 points w/ seven boards
J.J. Hickson came off the bench on Thursday with 14 points, seven boards and four fouls in 22 minutes vs. the Nets.
He shocked the NBA world with a career-high 25 boards on Tuesday and tonight's line is a much more fair expectation. Hickson shot 6-of-10 from the line tonight, which is just another issue in his game as a fantasy player. If there's a guy on the wire who you don't think will stay there for long, it's not a bad idea to cut Hickson and his low upside.

Wed Feb 26 201400:24J.J. Hickson benched, grabs 25 rebounds
J.J. Hickson was benched in favor of Timofey Mozgov on Tuesday, and then went off for 16 points, a career-high 25 rebounds, a steal and a block on 6-of-16 shooting.
Hickson went nuts tonight, grabbing every board he could touch, which included 15 of the offensive variety. He played 30 minutes and while he can't be expected to keep playing at a high level while coming off the bench, it looks like he might maintain some fantasy value. If you haven't dropped him already, just hang on and see what happens in the next one.

Mon Feb 24 201416:58J.J. Hickson will come off the bench
J.J. Hickson will come off the bench on Tuesday vs. the Blazers.
He's been a power forward playing center all season and it's led to some major issues on defense. Hickson doesn't really do much on the stat sheet outside of score and grab boards, so the move to the bench will probably make him a candidate to be cut in most formats.

Thu Feb 20 201423:39J.J. Hickson scores 14 with 10 boards
J.J. HIckson double-doubled against the Bucks on Thursday with 14 points, 10 boards, one assist and two steals on 6-of-9 from the field.
This matchup was tailor made for Hickson and he was able to get short-range buckets all night long. He's developed some consistency over his last five, averaging 13.2 points, 11.2 boards, 0.4 steals and 0.4 blocks on 49.1 percent from the field. The loss of JaVale McGee for the season helps solidify his value a bit.

Mon Feb 10 201421:47J.J. Hickson scores 12 points in loss
J.J. Hickson scored 12 points with eight boards and two turnovers in 28 minutes against the Pacers on Monday.
The Pacers had 58 points in the paint tonight and had no trouble getting very easy buckets. Hickson is part of the problem for Denver's defense lately, but he should be a decent double-double threat with little else.

Sat Feb 8 201422:41J.J. Hickson drops 15 & 16 in loss to Pistons
J.J. Hickson had 15 points, 16 rebounds and a block in Saturday's loss to the Pistons.
Normally it's the Pistons bigs who beat up on the Nuggets, but Hickson was solid tonight. Kenneth Faried was quiet with 11 points, three rebounds and a block in 20 minutes, but both players continue to be solid fantasy starters going forward.

Thu Feb 6 201402:49J.J. Hickson, Kenneth Faried both play well
J.J. Hickson had 19 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks in Wednesday's win.
Kenneth Faried started at power forward and added 10 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block, while Timofey Mozgov came off the bench for zero points, two rebounds and a block in just 12 minutes. Hickson and Faried are hot and look like must-starts, while Mozgov is playing kind of like Tina Fey, and has fallen off the map after a couple good games last week. Hopefully he's not trapped in one of your weekly lineups right now.

Sat Feb 1 201401:22J.J. Hickson puts up 18 and 13 vs. Raptors
J.J. Hickson scored 18 points with 13 boards, four assists and one steal in 30 minutes against the Raptors on Friday.
He shot 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-8 from the line in the loss. The latter half of that shooting equation has been an issue for Hickson and his 55 percent from the line, so he's a tough player to own in standard leagues unless you're looking to bolster points and boards. Kenneth Faried blocked four shots with 12 points and eight boards, making him a slightly better option.
