Sun Jul 4 201021:34White Sox 3B Vizquel leaves game
Omar Vizquel left Sunday's game after taking a pitch from the Rangers' Scott Feldman on the knee.
Vizquel was on the ground in pain after being hit in his left knee, and had to be helped off the field. X-Rays were negative and he has a bruise that will be re-evaluated on Monday. Dayan Viciedo took over for him in the game, and should get a boost in playing time. He's hit nothing but singles so far, but has some upside given his .290/.329/.525 line this year at Triple-A Charlotte.
Thu Jun 10 201016:46White Sox's Vizquel hits first homer
Omar Vizquel, who drove in three runs last night, hit his first homer of the season in Thursday's win.
Vizquel has really stepped up in Mark Teahen's absence, hitting .321 with six RBI and seven runs scored in eight games this month. He'll definitely keep playing regularly until he cools off, although he is due to miss games Friday and Saturday to attend to a matter in Venezuela. Also, don't expect many more homers: he has two in 521 at-bats over the last three years.
Tue May 25 201023:1143-year-old Vizquel mulling retirement
Omar Vizquel is unsure whether he will continue his career after this season.
"It's hard to play in the role that I am when you're used to playing every day," said Vizquel, who currently plays as a backup infielder. "It's hard preparation, sometimes you feel disappointed, sometimes you're sad. Your mental process is different. You take different ways to prepare and I don't know if I can do it another year. I could probably do it because physically I feel pretty good, but mentally it takes a toll on your body. It makes you doubt sometimes. I don't think I want to go through that process again." Vizquel, 43, said the only way he would considering coming back is if he has a strong finish to the season. He is currently batting .200/.245/.222 over 45 at-bats this season.
