Eli Whiteside (concussion) is on track to return from the disabled list on Thursday.
He'll have spent the minimum amount of time on the DL with a concussion. With Whiteside back, Hector Sanchez will likely be sent back to Triple-A, though he'll surely return next month when rosters expand.

Fri Aug 19 201115:33Whiteside lands on DL with concussion
Giants placed C Eli Whiteside on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion.
Whiteside injured himself on a hard slide on a stolen-base attempt on Wednesday. Hector Sanchez has taken his place on the roster, though Chris Stewart will take his place in the starting lineup. It's quite possible Whiteside will be able to return when first eligible next Thursday.

Eli Whiteside left Wednesday's game in the seventh inning due to dizziness.
What would the day be without another Giants injury? Whiteside took a shot to the head in the fourth inning while attempting a stolen base, so he might have a concussion. Chris Stewart took over for him behind the plate.

No Giants were suspended for their actions during Friday's benches-clearing brawl with the Phillies.
Shane Victorino was suspended three games for his "aggressive actions" that prolonged that incident, but Giants right-hander Ramon Ramirez and catcher Eli Whiteside only walked away with fines. Placido Polanco, who was tackled by Whiteside, was also fined.

Mon Jul 25 201109:41Giants no longer pursuing a catcher
Giants GM Brian Sabean said Sunday that he's no longer pursuing a catcher at this year's trade deadline.
The Giants are apparently content with the production they've been getting from the platoon of Eli Whiteside and Chris Stewart. "I think the catching has really done a nice job with this pitching staff," Sabean said. "That's their priority. They've found some ways to get some hits, but that's not their strength. But pitching is our strength."

Thu Jun 23 201101:27Whiteside triples, puts up three RBI
Eli Whiteside went 2-for-4 with three RBI in San Francisco's win over the Twins on Wednesday.
He delivered a two-RBI triple in the second. The triple comes just one day after he homered, and one week after his first triple of 2011. That's good news for the Giants, but any offense they get from Whiteside going forward should be considered a bonus. He's extremely unlikely to become a viable fantasy option in any format outside of two catcher NL-only leagues.

Sat May 28 201112:42Giants could stick with Eli Whiteside
Giants GM Brian Sabean said that acquiring a catcher "at least for now, is not on our plate."
"We love (Eli Whiteside)," Sabean said. "We thank our lucky stars that Whitey's in this position. He's always caught extremely well, and we've done well when he's been behind the plate, as a team. He deserves a shot to see what it looks like. He's more than capable. Our pitchers love throwing to him. He's been around the block." It's no surprise that Sabean doesn't plan to pull a quick trigger on a deal in the wake of the Buster Posey injury, but that could change in a month or two. The two names most connected with the Giants to this point have been the Nationals' Pudge Rodrigue and free agent Bengie Molina.

Thu Mar 10 201108:59Yost thinks Butler could steal 10 bases
Royals manger Ned Yost thinks Billy Butler could steal 10 bases this season.
We're going to assume Yost said this with a straight face. "Billy got one in the intrasquad game the other day, too," said Yost. "You can pick your spots in those situations, and we're looking to do that whenever we can." Butler has exactly one stolen bases over 533 career major league games, so if you're picking him for steals, well, you're doing something wrong.

Tue Mar 8 201112:38Whiteside hoping to play in Thursday's game
Eli Whiteside (elbow) is hoping to start behind the plate in Thursday's Cactus League game.
Whiteside was shut down in late February after developing some inflammation in his right elbow. He threw to bases on Tuesday in camp, though, and told reporters that he is feeling much better. The 31-year-old catcher is expected to serve as Buster Posey's backup this season and will carry almost no fantasy value.

Fri Mar 4 201116:46Whiteside hoping to return early next week
Eli Whiteside (elbow) is hoping to return to game action early next week after throwing long toss for the second straight day on Friday.
Buster Posey's backup, he's taken just two at-bats thus far this spring. Only dealing with some inflammation, and not tendinitis, it will be a surprise if he's still sidelined by this time next week.
