Chris Getz (ribcage) is expected to ramp up baseball activities this weekend.
"I'm moving around a lot better," said Getz. "I guess, in the next few days, they'll get a sense where I'm at and, hopefully, go out on some rehab games." Getz is eligible to return from the disabled list on Wednesday and could be ready right around that time.

Fri May 18 201210:54Chris Getz still sore
Chris Getz (ribs) is unlikely to return to the lineup this weekend.
"I got through the night pretty good, but it's still sore in the front and the back of the chest," said Getz, who hasn't played since leaving Wednesday's game. "It's still day-to-day." The Royals face two left-handed starters over the weekend, so it's a good opportunity for Getz to continue to rest before hopefully returning to action early next week. Johnny Giovotella and Irving Falu will handle second base.

Chris Getz left Wednesday's game with a bruised left rib following a collision at first base with the Orioles' Chris Davis.

Wed May 2 201216:15Chris Getz singles in go-ahead run in ninth
Chris Getz knocked in a run with an infield single in the top of the ninth to propel the Royals to a 3-2 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.
Getz also had a triple off Justin Verlander today. He is playing better than the Royals possibly could have hoped, and he should be starting over Yuniesky Betancourt against all right-handers, given that he's the much better defender at second base.

Sun Apr 15 201218:20Chris Getz has nice day in loss
Chris Getz went 3-for-5 with a triple, run scored, two RBI and stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Indians.
Somewhat surprisingly named the Royals' second baseman to begin the season, Getz has gotten off to a decent start, batting .333/.333/.476 while driving in three runs and swiping two bags. He's just a career .253/.314/.307 (entering Sunday) hitter, however, and isn't worth a look outside of AL-only leagues.

Sun Mar 25 201215:19Royals unlikely to trade INF Chris Getz
According to FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi, the Royals are unlikely to trade infielder Chris Getz.
A career utilityman, Getz ''has a good chance'' to open season as the starting second baseman. The 28-year-old batted .255/.313/.287 with 26 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a .600 OPS over 429 plate appearances last season in a semi-regular role.

The Royals and INF Chris Getz have agreed to a one-year, $967,500 contract, thus avoiding salary arbitration.
Getz was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 28-year-old batted .255/.313/.287 with 26 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a .600 OPS over 429 plate appearances last season. He'll function as a utility infielder in 2012.

Fri Aug 26 201115:11Chris Getz starting at SS
Chris Getz is getting his first major league start at shortstop Friday.
Alcides Escobar is simply getting a day off. Getz played 52 games at shortstop in the minors, but he hasn't been tried at the position in three years. The Royals seem to be prepping him for a utility role.

Sun Aug 21 201110:26Chris Getz taking balls at SS
Chris Getz has been taking ground balls at shortstop.
Getz is trying to increase his versatility now that he's a backup behind Johnny Giavotella at second base. The position isn't totally foreign to him, as he appeared in 52 games at shortstop in the minors, but he hasn't played there in three years. Getz also has some limited experience at third base and in the outfield, so he could wind up in a super utility role, though he's not ready to give up on the possibility of starting. "It doesn't hurt, but I still have a goal to be an everyday second baseman," said Getz. "It's a matter of honing some skills to be that everyday guy."

Fri Jul 8 201122:04Getz ejected from Friday's game
Chris Getz was ejected from Friday's game against the Tigers in the fourth inning for arguing a call at first base.
Getz was called out on a close play at first base and was tossed by first base umpire Tom Hallion after voicing his frustration. He was replaced by Wilson Betemit, who is playing second base for just the 20th time in his career.

Sat Apr 2 201116:26Getz pushes Royals past Angels on Saturday
Chris Getz went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles in a 5-4 win over the Angels on Saturday afternoon.
Getz drove a run home in the fifth and put the Royals ahead for good with a single off Kevin Jepsen in the bottom of the eighth. Rookie right-hander Aaron Crow earned his first major league victory. Royals manager Ned Yost said Saturday that he was going to put Wilson Betemit back at third base and slide Mike Aviles over to second base for Sunday's game, but days like these will help Getz's chances of staying in the lineup more often.

Thu Feb 24 201101:13Getz moving past concussion issues
After dealing with a concussion and other injuries last season, Chris Getz is in his best shape in three years.
"I wasn't too limited in terms of my offseason weightlifting program and the conditioning stuff," Getz said. That was a departure from past seasons, when various ailments prevented him from preparing fully. His great defense, mixed with sub-par offensive numbers, gives him a tenuous hold on the starting second baseman job. As for competition, young prospect Christian Colon could be converted into a second baseman in the near future, while Mike Aviles could shift back there any time this season.

It's comes over three months since he suffered a concussion and was eventually shut down for the season. "We're off and running; it's pretty good news," Getz said. "No restrictions, full clearance." Getz, who batted .237/.302/.277 with no homers and 15 steals over 224 at-bats this past season, is expected to start at second base in 2011.

Wed Sep 22 201017:17Getz (concussion) shut down for rest of year
Chris Getz (concussion) has been shut down for the rest of the season.
Getz felt dizzy while trying to field pop-ups during a pregame drill Monday. In this day and age, teams are smart enough to know that you don't mess with concussions. The infielder turned in a 237/.302/.277 batting line and 18 RBI over 224 at-bats this season for the Royals.

Sun Sep 19 201020:53Royals' Getz (concussion) close to returning
Royals second baseman Chris Getz is close to returning from his week-old concussion.
Getz apparently passed all his off-field tests over the weekend and was slated to run on Sunday. If he can run full bore without fogginess or resulting headaches, he'll be cleared to begin baseball activities. Manager Ned Yost added that he would be ready to go in a day or two. Mike Aviles has been hot, but the team was going with Getz before he was injured, so they'll probably return to their previous arrangement.

Wed Sep 15 201008:38Getz remains sidelined with concussion
Chris Getz remains sidelined indefinitely due to a concussion suffered Sunday.
"There's still some general fogginess in there," said Royals manager Ned Yost. "Even though he's made improvements, he still has a little of that lingering. So until that leaves, he won't be doing anything." Getz was struck in the back of the head by a thrown ball as he was stealing second base Sunday.
