Fri May 4 2012 | 12:25 | Veteran Bobby Abreu catches on with Dodgers |
Dodgers signed OF Bobby Abreu to a one-year contract. |
We assume it's probably a prorated veteran minimum deal, with the Angels being responsible for the remainder of his $9 million salary this season. Abreu will serve as an occasional left fielder and pinch-hitter for the Dodgers, and he's worthy of scooping up in NL-only leagues. |

Fri May 4 2012 | 09:33 | Report: Dodgers agree to terms with Abreu |
Jon Heyman on CBSSports.com reports that the Dodgers have agreed to terms with Bobby Abreu. |
A deal was reportedly close Wednesday evening, and now it appears it's finally done. As Heyman notes, Abreu will be a "bat off the bench and part-time outfielder" for the first-place Dodgers. It will be hard for him to churn out much fantasy value in that role, but he's worthy of scooping up in NL-only leagues. |

Wed May 2 2012 | 21:24 | Report: Bobby Abreu nearing deal with Dodgers |
Updating an earlier item, Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Dodgers are nearing a deal with Bobby Abreu. |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported earlier that talks were heating up, and evidently the two sides are close to crossing the finish line. Abreu will serve as a pinch-hitter and occasional outfielder for the Dodgers, and he won't have to move far after being released by the Angels last week. |

Wed May 2 2012 | 17:13 | Bobby Abreu drawing interest from NL teams |
Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Bobby Abreu is drawing interest from some National League teams. |
Many thought he might be limited to DH jobs, but evidently some are willing to consider him for an outfield role. Abreu was batting just .208 over his first 24 at-bats this season before the Angels cut him loose and isn't close to the same player he once was. But, he can still get on base and run a little, so he wouldn't be a bad addition for someone. |

Sat Mar 31 2012 | 10:05 | Report: Angels could release Bobby Abreu |
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Angels could release Bobby Abreu and ''swallow his contract.'' |
Manager Mike Scioscia told Abreu he would get 400 plate appearances this season, but with Kendrys Morales returning and Mark Trumbo available to DH, there is little need for him on the Opening Day roster. Utility players Jorge Cantu and Alexi Amarista could push Abreu in a battle for two bench spots. |

Fri Mar 30 2012 | 19:15 | Abreu has rare two-hit day |
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-3 a run scored and two RBI in Friday's win over the Diamondbacks. |
The two-hit day was Abreu's first in Cactus League play after he entered the day hitting an appalling .087/.160/.130. His .087 average had been 200th out of 200 qualifying players for the "spring batting title." No longer on his way to Cleveland, Abreu will be forced to scrap for at-bats in Los Angeles' overfilled outfield to begin the season. |

Fri Mar 30 2012 | 10:59 | Bobby Abreu in Angels lineup Friday |
Bobby Abreu is in the Angels' lineup Friday. |
As Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times points out, it either means the rumored trade to the Indians is "dead or on hold." Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported Thursday evening that the deal was "on the verge" of being finalized, but talks evidently hit a snag, and FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal thinks the trade is only "50-50" to happen. |

Thu Mar 29 2012 | 23:33 | Report: Abreu trade only has '50-50' chance |
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that a trade sending Bobby Abreu to the Indians is only "50-50" to happen. |
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported earlier that the deal was "on the verge" of being finalized. But it has apparently hit a snag. Abreu, 38, will serve as the Indians' primary left fielder this season if the trade is ultimately completed. He batted .253/.353/.365 with eight home runs and 60 RBI in 585 plate appearances last year for Anaheim. |

Thu Mar 29 2012 | 21:32 | Indians nearing trade for Halos' Bobby Abreu |
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Indians are on the verge of acquiring Bobby Abreu. |
The Indians have been looking for outfield help all spring. And while Abreu isn't much of a defender anymore, he should represent a slight upgrade on the offensive end for Cleveland. The 38-year-old outfielder is owed $9 million this season, though the Angels are likely to eat most of that. |

Thu Mar 29 2012 | 21:05 | Angels trying to make Bobby Abreu trade |
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Angels are trying to find a trade partner for Bobby Abreu. |
It's not exactly breaking news. Abreu has become expendable in the wake of Kendrys Morales' recovery, but he's owed $9 million this season and the Angels are likely to struggle to find a taker for that salary. The 37-year-old Abreu batted just .253/.353/.365 with eight homers and 60 RBI in 2011. |

Sat Mar 24 2012 | 13:26 | Angels hold closed-door meeting with Abreu |
The Angels held a closed-door meeting with Bobby Abreu on Saturday. |
Abreu was spotted going through the Angels' pre-game workout, so it doesn't appear he's being released or traded. According to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez, the situation has to do with Abreu's recent comments to a Venezuelan newspaper over his role with the team. The 37-year-old is expected to serve as a part-time designated hitter and backup outfielder this year. |

Wed Mar 7 2012 | 08:46 | Could Angels trade Abreu before Opening Day? |
According to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, some baseball people believe that there's a real chance that the Angels will work hard to trade Bobby Abreu before Opening Day. |
The Angels would have to eat a significant chunk of Abreu's $9 million salary for 2012 in order to get a deal done, but the thought is that they might be willing to do it. For now, Angels general manager Jerry DiPoto is saying that he "absolutely" expects Abreu to begin the season with the club. The 37-year-old figures to see significantly less playing time this season if both Kendrys Morales (ankle) and Mark Trumbo (foot) come back healthy. |

Bobby Abreu (flu) is back in the Angels' Cactus League lineup Tuesday against the White Sox. |
Abreu was sent home early from camp Monday because of an illness but showed up feeling much better on Tuesday. The 37-year-old will act as a part-time designated hitter and backup outfielder this year for the Halos. |

Bobby Abreu was scratched from Monday's Cactus League game against the A's due to an illness. |
Abreu was sent home and could be given a couple of days to rest. The 37-year-old is expected to function as a part-time DH and backup outfielder this year for Anaheim. |

Mon Feb 27 2012 | 11:02 | Abreu told to expect 400 atb-ats |
Bobby Abreu was told by Angels management Monday that he should expect around 400 at-bats this year. |
That seems a bit optimistic given the Angels' logjam in the outfield and at designated hitter. Anaheim has attempted to trade Abreu, but the 37-year-old's $9 million salary commitment for 2012 is making that impossible. He holds very little value in mixed leagues. |

Sun Feb 26 2012 | 09:42 | Angels having trouble dealing Bobby Abreu |
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Angels are unlikely to release Bobby Abreu, "but their efforts to deal him have been fruitless." |
The Halos will surely have to eat a good chunk of the $9 million owed to Abreu for 2012. Although the veteran hasn't outright demanded a trade, he's told the Angels that he'd rather play somewhere else if he's not going to receive regular at-bats. A parting of ways seems to be best for both parties, but evidently the Angels are having trouble finding takers. |

Wed Feb 22 2012 | 13:24 | Angels hope to find role for Bobby Abreu |
Angels' manager Mike Scioscia said Wednesday that he hopes to put Bobby Abreu in a position to be successful. |
Abreu told Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com that he wants to be traded if he won't be an everyday player, but Scioscia still sees a role for him on the team. "How much playing time he gets, we don't have a crystal ball. We certainly have more depth now than we've had in a long time," explained Scioscia. "But I don't think Bobby would be valuable playing once or twice a week. He would have to play more than that. But there's certainly ways to get a lot of guys in the lineup to where they're contributing." Abreu is making $9 million this season and most teams have already filled their DH spot, so the 37-year-old may have no choice but to accept a diminished role. |

Tue Feb 21 2012 | 20:11 | Dipoto says Abreu hasn't issued ultimatum |
Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto told Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com that Bobby Abreu hasn't issued an ultimatum to him or manager Mike Scioscia. |
"I spoke to Bobby a little more than a week ago, I'd say -- a week, 10 days ago -- and walked through his current situation, and Mike has had very similar conversations," said Dipoto. "So, Bobby is aware of the circumstances, he's aware of the people on the roster. We do see a fit for Bobby on this club, he's aware of where that fit is. It's not something that we're going to play it [out] in the media. ... Whether it's an ultimatum that's been issued, he has no right to do that." Abreu is owed $9 million this season, so the Angels would likely have to cover a significant portion of his remaining salary in a trade. As a result, Gonzalez hears they are content to keep him for now. |
