Tue Apr 5 201120:37Alex Sanabia out with elbow soreness
Alex Sanabia will start the season on the Triple-A disabled list due to elbow soreness.
Sanabia, who dealt with the elbow issues throughout spring training, is currently going through an evaluation process, after which a clearer timetable of his rehab will be determined. The right-hander could have been in line to be the first to get called up when the Marlins need a starter, but obviously he'll need to be healthy first.

Mon Mar 14 201115:37Marlins' Sanabia returns to mound
Alex Sanabia returned to the mound on Monday and allowed a run in an inning against the Twins.
Sanabia was scratched from his last start due to a sore elbow. He's slated to open the season at the top of the rotation for Triple-A New Orleans, but he would be the favorite to step in for the Marlins if Javier Vazquez's elbow problem turns serious.

Wed Mar 9 201109:34Sanabia (elbow) to throw bullpen Wednesday
Alex Sanabia (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday morning.
There have been some conflicting reports about why Sanabia was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday, but he sounds healthy now. "I'm good and ready to roll," said Sanabia. "I'm working on some things mechanically." It doesn't sound like anything to worry about, but if everything breaks right for the Marlins this season, Sanabia is unlikely to have any fantasy value.

Tue Mar 8 201120:07Sanabia dealing with sore elbow
Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez acknowledged Tuesday that Alex Sanabia is indeed dealing with elbow soreness.
On Monday, Rodriguez disputed a report that Sanabia was dealing with an injury, instead saying that he was scratched from his start in order to work on his mechanics. There's no current timetable for his return.

Mon Mar 7 201116:32Sanabia not scratched due to injury
Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said that Alex Sanabia was not scratched from Tuesday's start due to injury.
An earlier report indicated that Sanabia was scratched due to elbow soreness, but Rodriguez said he is simply hanging back to work on his slider with Marlins pitching coach Randy St. Claire. Sanabia, 22, went 5-3 with a 3.73 ERA over 72 1/3 innings in his first taste of the big leagues last season, but is likely to be used as a spot-starter for the Marlins in 2011.

Mon Mar 7 201113:05Sanabia scratched with elbow soreness
Alex Sanabia was scratched from his scheduled Tuesday start due to elbow soreness.
Elih Villanueva will start against the Tigers in Lakeland, Florida instead. Sanabia also had elbow problems near the end of last season, but the Marlins are thinking this particular issue will blow over soon. The 22-year-old is likely to be used as a spot-starter this season.

Sun Oct 3 201015:49Sanabia's MRI shows right elbow strain
An MRI of Alex Sanabia's right elbow Sunday revealed a strain.
Well, it's a good thing the season is over. Sanabia, 22, threw up a 5-3 record, a 3.73 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP across 72 1/3 innings this season and could have a shot at a rotation spot during spring training 2011.

Sat Oct 2 201014:12Sanabia scratched for Saturday's start
Alejandro Sanabia has been scratched for tonight's start against the Pirates.
The reason is unknown, however in his last start he was examined by the trainer on the mound and was shaking his elbow. Jorge Sosa will take his place.

Mon Sep 27 201023:43Sanabia excellent in no-decision Monday
Alex Sanabia limited the Braves to one run over seven innings in a no-decision on Monday night.
He scattered five hits while striking out five and walking none. The only run came courtesy of a solo homer by Brian McCann in the bottom of the fourth inning. The rookie right-hander has a surprising 3.73 ERA over his first 15 big league appearances (12 starts), but would probably experience some correction with the gopher ball should he get an extended look. Assuming the Marlins give him another start, he'll pitch against the Pirates this weekend.
Fri Sep 17 201023:11Sanabia takes a loss vs. the Cubs
Alex Sanabia yielded two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Friday night.
Sanabia struck out three, walked three and gave up four hits. We haven't heard any word lately about the 22-year-old getting shut down, but it might be a good idea. between his major and minor league starts this season, he's already more than 40 innings over his previous professional high.
Fri Sep 10 201022:24Sanabia goes on suspension on a high
Alex Sanabia tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball to beat the Nationals on Friday night.
Sanabia is starting his five-game suspension tomorrow, so he's going away on a good note. The rookie gave up just three hits tonight while walking three and striking out three. He's still not a mixed-league option, but desperate NL-only leaguers could do worse. It's unclear when Sanabia's next start will be, but he's eligible to pitch next Friday against the Cubs.
Wed Sep 8 201017:08Sanabia to serve five-gm. suspension next wk.
Alex Sanabia will begin serving his five-game suspension Saturday.
As a starting pitcher, the five-game punishment should have very little effect on his schedule. Sanabia will start on Friday against the Nationals and then take a week off. He's 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP over eight starts (11 total appearances) this year for the Marlins.

Fri Sep 3 201013:19MLB suspends RHP Sanabia five games
MLB suspended RHP Alex Sanabia five games for his actions in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
That's pretty much the minimum suspension a starting pitcher can get. He'll probably just serve it around an off day.
Wed Aug 25 201023:43Sanabia surprisingly wins again
Alejandro Sanabia was surprisingly strong again on Wednesday night, this time limiting the Mets to three runs -- two earned -- over 6 1/3 innings to earn his third win.
Sanabia held the Pirates to one earned run over 7 2/3 innings last time out, so he's caught our eye. The 21-year-old had a couple impressive starts back in July, but then fizzled out and was sent back to Triple-A. We're not adding him in mixed leagues yet.
Thu Aug 19 201021:44Sanabia excellent in emergency start
Alejandro Sanabia limited the Pirates to one earned run over 7 2/3 innings Thursday as the Marlins grabbed a 4-2 victory.
Sanabia was called up just 24 hours before the start after the Marlins suddenly scratched scheduled pitcher Sean West. He was excellent, fanning five Pittsburgh hitters without issuing a walk and surrendering only four total hits over his nearly eight innings of work. Sanabia likely earned himself another start, but should still be avoided in most leagues.
Thu Aug 19 201017:29Marlins recall Sanabia for Thurs. start
Marlins recalled RHP Alejandro Sanabia from Triple-A New Orleans.
Sanabia will fill in for injured starter Sean West on Thursday against the Pirates. It's a decent matchup, but the 21-year-old right-hander can be avoided in most fantasy leagues. He has a 4.63 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 20/7 K/BB ratio over 23 1/3 big-league innings this season.
Sat Jul 31 201023:39Marlins option Sanabia to Triple-A
Marlins optioned RHP Alejandro Sanabia to Triple-A New Orleans.
Sanabia surrendered seven earned runs in a two-inning outing against the Giants on Wednesday that proved to be the last straw. The 21-year-old right-hander will head back to Triple-A but could be called on down the road if the Marlins are in need of an emergency starter.
Fri Jul 23 201023:31Sanabia has uneven start vs. Braves
Alejandro Sanabia gave up just one run over 4 1/3 innings against the Braves on Friday night, but didn't qualify for the win.
Sanabia was actually pretty darn lucky to escape without any more damage, as he allowed seven hits and walked three. The fifth-inning solo homer by Martin Prado ended a 12 1/3 innings scoreless streak for the 21-year-old right-hander. Sanabia is still making the transition to the bullpen, so he has yet to complete six innings as a starter. He could finally get there with a start against the Giants next week.
Sun Jul 18 201016:13Sanabia impressive in win over Nats
Alejandro Sanabia tossed 5 1/3 shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Nationals on Sunday afternoon.
Sanabia is still being stretched out from the bullpen, so he was pulled after throwing just 78 pitches. All told, he gave up four hits -- all singles -- while striking out five and walking just two. Believe it or not, the 21-year-old right-hander has 8 2/3 shutout innings over his first two big league starts and a 17/4 K/BB ratio over his first 17 big-league innings. He thrived on his excellent control in the minor leagues, but we'll need to see more before he becomes a recommended option in NL-only leagues. Assuming he's done enough to stay in the rotation, he'll face the Braves in his next start.
Thu Jul 15 201022:14Sanabia to make 2nd start for Marlins
Alejandro Sanabia will make his second start Sunday against the Nationals.
If he pitches well, the unlikely 21-year-old starter could extend his stay in the big leagues a little longer. Sanabia has a 3.09 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP and a 12/2 K/BB ratio in 11-plus innings for the Marlins this season.
