It's always concerning when a pitcher is dealing with shoulder issues, but evidently this one is minor, as an MRI revealed no structural issues. Norberto, who has a 3.91 ERA and 18/12 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings this season, was administered a cortisone shot and should start throwing in a few days.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that left-hander Jordan Norberto may work as a starter in the minors if he doesn't make the bullpen out of spring training.
Norberto was used as a starter with Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Winter League, but he hasn't made a professional start since A-ball in 2008. The 25-year-old southpaw can reach the mid-90s with his fastball, but he has walked 29 batters over 26 2/3 innings in the big leagues.

Athletics acquired LHP Jordan Norberto and 1B-OF Brandon Allen from the Diamondbacks for RHP Brad Ziegler.
Norberto, 24, had a 5.85 ERA and 15/22 K/BB over 20 innings with the Diamondbacks in 2010, but has spent all of this season with Triple-A Reno. The southpaw has averaged 9.8 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9 over parts of six seasons in the minor leagues.

He will replace Dontrelle Willis, who was designated for assignment, on the roster. Norberto's first taste of the big leagues earlier this season didn't go very well, as he allowed three runs on two hits and a whopping six walks in three innings. He has 38 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings at Triple-A this year, but he's also had control problems there (19 walks).
