Tue Jul 17 201221:12Nelson has heart shocked back into rhythm
Rockies placed INF Chris Nelson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 16, with an irregular heartbeat.
Nelson had a successful procedure Tuesday to shock his heart back into rhythm and it expected to be OK, but the Rockies didn't want to take any chances. He could be back when first eligible. "Due to the fact that [his heart] was not able to go back into rhythm on its own, there's at least six or seven days of very limited activity he'll have," manager Jim Tracy said. "As a result, we had to put him on the disabled list."

Chris Nelson and Wilin Rosario hit two-run homers to power the Rockies to a 4-1 win over the Phillies on Thursday.
Nelson homered in the seventh, while Rosario supplied a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Nelson has three homers in his last six games after hitting just two in his first 35. If he can stay hot, he'll turn into a fixture at second base for the Rockies, giving him a fair amount of value in NL-only leagues.

Rockies activated INF Chris Nelson from the 15-day disabled list.
He'll take the place of the injured Troy Tulowitzki (groin) on the active roster. It's not clear how the Rockies intend to use him, but he figures to be pretty active over the next couple of weeks. He's only worth a look in NL-only leagues, though.

Wed May 9 201218:57Chris Nelson knocks in two for Rockies
Chris Nelson had two hits and two RBI against the Padres on Wednesday.
Nelson has lost a lot of playing time to Jonathan Herrera of late, but he got the start at third base today because of Troy Tulowitzki's injury. Herrera has really cooled off recently, so Nelson might be able to reclaim the starting job at third base with another couple of nice games. Both he and Herrera are pretty borderline players, though.

Chris Nelson is expected to start at third base in Friday's opener for the Rockies.
Nelson hit .275 in Cactus League play and, according to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post, "showed soft hands defensively, which is why he's expected to get the nod over Jordan Pacheco in the early going." The Rox were originally planning to use Nelson in a utility role this season, but they don't really have many options at the hot corner until top prospect Nolan Arenado is ready.

The Rockies are expected to use Chris Nelson in a utility role this season, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding.
Nelson, who had a brief stint as a starter last season before being demoted, is looking to put himself in line for semi-regular starts at second base behind the 36-year-old Marco Scutaro. Out of minor league options, the Rockies would have to expose him to other teams through waivers if he's unable to make the final roster.

Nelson's fourth home run of the season was his second of the month. The former first-round pick has hit just .251/.279/.389 in 183 plate appearances this season, and shouldn't be ticketed for more than a bench role in 2012.
