Fri Mar 23 201216:33Varvaro exits with pectoral strain
Anthony Varvaro left Friday's game against the Mets with a right pectoral strain.
Varvaro failed to retire a batter Friday, allowing three consecutive singles and a walk before leaving the game. No word yet on the severity, but between the injury and his ugly 9.45 ERA this spring, he's unlikely to make Atlanta's bullpen.

Fri Mar 23 201216:20Anthony Varvaro can't get an out for Braves
Anthony Varvaro failed to retire any of the four Mets he faced before coming out of Friday's game.
Especially with Arodys Vizcaino out, Varvaro was in great position to claim an opening in the Atlanta pen, but he's thrown it away with a 9.45 ERA this spring. Jairo Asencio and Gory Gearrin look like the favorites to occupy the two vacancies now.

Varvaro was cleared to make room for the newly-signed Miguel Olivo on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 4.02 ERA and 72/35 K/BB ratio over 65 innings between Double-A and Triple-A last season and even had a brief cup of coffee with the big club in September. Wed Sep 22 201014:32Mariners recall Varvaro from Triple-A
Mariners recalled RHP Anthony Varvaro from Triple-A Tacoma.
Varvaro, 25, posted a 4.02 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 50 appearances between Double-A West Tennessee and Triple-A Tacoma this season. Though 4.8 BB/9 is still far too many, it's actually an improvement from his walk rate of 7.3 BB/9 from last season. This is just a cup of coffee for now, but he's making decent progress.
