Wed Nov 23 201111:27Braves don't offer arbitration to SS Gonzalez
Alex Gonzalez was not offered arbitration by the Braves.
The Braves had a chance at securing a supplemental draft choice for the Type B free agent, but they didn't want to risk the chance that Gonzalez would accept arbitration and make something close to $3 million in 2012. The 35-year-old batted .241/.270/.372 with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and a .642 OPS over 593 plate appearances this season while playing his usual solid defense. The Braves will be on the hunt for a shortstop this winter as they look for a short-term bridge to prospect Tyler Pastornicky.

Wed Sep 28 201120:26Alex Gonzalez out until next week
Alex Gonzalez (calf) is expected to be sidelined until at least early next week.
Gonzalez, who aggravated his calf injury Tuesday, thought he felt good enough to play Wednesday, but he was clearly being overly optimistic. "That thing could get worse than it even is," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Right now, we don't know if it's a spasm or a strain. I wouldn't feel comfortable running him out there." Jack Wilson will handle shortstop early on in the NLDS, assuming the Braves make it.

Alex Gonzalez (calf) is not in the Braves' starting lineup Wednesday night against the Phillies.
Not a big surprise after Gonzalez left Tuesday's game with a strained right calf. He was scheduled to be reevaluated Wednesday, but the Braves called up prospect Tyler Pastornicky for some insurance on the bench. Jack Wilson will make the start at shortstop Wednesday and bat eighth against right-hander Joe Blanton.

Alex Gonzalez's calf injury could be worse than it was before after he aggravated it during Tuesday's game.
That's no good. He's considered doubtful to play Wednesday, and it sounds like his status for a potential NLDS appearance might be in question. Jack Wilson will be the Braves' shortstop while Gonzalez is sidelined.

Tue Sep 27 201119:39Alex Gonzalez aggravates calf injury
Alex Gonzalez was pinch-hit for by Jack Wilson prior to his first at-bat Tuesday after aggravating his right calf injury.
Gonzalez didn't have to make any plays in the field in the first two innings, but his calf evidently started bothering him again before he could bat in the second. We'll update his condition when more is known, but the likelihood of him playing Wednesday would seem to be low. Jack Wilson replaced him at shortstop.

Sat Jul 9 201119:55Gonzalez pushes Braves past Phillies
Alex Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a go-ahead RBI single and a run scored in a 4-1 win over the Phillies in 10 innings Saturday.
And he better send Ryan Howard a thank you card. It appeared that Gonzalez was going to be out on a foul pop-up, but Howard gave him new life after dropping the ball while trying to make a basket catch. Brian McCann quickly followed with a two-run blast to provide some valuable insurance. Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect bottom of the tenth for his 28th save in 33 chances.
