Vinnie Pestano is day-to-day with a sore right elbow.

Fri Apr 12 201312:15Vinnie Pestano unscored upon
Vinnie Pestano is unscored upon in his three appearances this season, giving up just one hit while striking out four in the process.
Chris Perez has blown one of two save chances, though he's only allowed the one run in three innings. Still, Pestano is one of the better setup man in the game and could be a fine closer should Perez stumble and lose his job.

Mon Feb 4 201308:50Pestano says he's in best shape ever
Vinnie Pestano wrote on his Twitter account Monday that he might be in the best shape of his life.
"Best shape I've been in a long time," tweeted the Indians reliever. "Maybe ever." Pestano has posted an exceptional 2.50 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 11.0 K/9 through 137 career major league innings. He could take over ninth-inning duties from Chris Perez at some point this season.

Wed Dec 5 201201:02'Nothing there' on Mets, Vinnie Pestano
Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that there is "nothing there" regarding the Mets' possible pursuit of Vinnie Pestano.
Rubin reported earlier Tuesday that the Mets were interested in trading for the Indians reliever, but evidently there isn't a potential for a deal after all. It's doubtful Cleveland is interested in dealing Pestano, who posted a 2.57 ERA and 76/24 K/BB ratio over 70 innings this past season and isn't even arbitration-eligible yet.

Tue Dec 4 201211:22Report: Mets interested in Indians' Pestano
ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports that the Mets are interested in trading for Indians' reliever Vinnie Pestano.
The asking price figures to be pretty high, as Pestano isn't even arbitration-eligible yet. Quickly emerging as one of the better set-up men in the game, 27-year-old right-hander posted a 2.57 ERA and 76/24 K/BB ratio over 70 innings this past season. The Mets have also asked the Rays about the availability of Joel Peralta, but the price is similarly steep.

Tue Aug 28 201211:38Pestano cruising for Tribe
Vinnie Pestano has registered a 1.79 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 55 1/3 innings this season.
Pestano also has 61 strikeouts. One of the game's top setup men, he should remain an elite fantasy option in holds leagues even as the Indians limp through the end of a disappointing 2012 campaign.

Tue May 15 201205:06Pestano surrenders two runs in rare setback
Vinnie Pestano gave up two runs on a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Monday against the Twins.
There are few more dominant relievers in the game than Pestano. So despite issuing three walks in his previous appearance on Thursday, we'll chalk this up simply to an off night. The right-hander owns a 3.07 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through 14 2/3 innings.

Mon Apr 16 201210:45Pestano off to nice start
Vinnie Pestano has fanned seven batters and walked none through 4 2/3 innings this season.
Pestano registered a sparkling 84/24 K/BB ratio in 62 frames last year, and clearly didn't lose any of his dominance over the winter. The 27-year-old righty is second in line for saves in Cleveland behind Chris Perez.

Mon Mar 12 201220:30Vinnie Pestano fans three
Chris Perez-handcuff Vinnie Pestano struck out the side in his one inning of work in Monday's 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
He also mixed in a walk and a hit, but you get the idea. In line to be the Indians' stopper if Perez (oblique) isn't ready by Opening Day, Pestano has started off his spring with four scoreless frames, fanning five in the process.

Sun Feb 26 201216:34Acta: Pestano will close if Perez isn't ready
Indians manager Manny Acta said Sunday that Vinnie Pestano will be his closer if Chris Perez isn't ready for the ninth inning at the start of the regular season.
Perez's (oblique) goal is to return by March 15 and be healthy for Opening Day. He was given a 4-6 week timetable, however, so it's reasonable to pessimistic about his optimism. We think Perez will likely start the season on the shelf, meaning Pestano will see save opportunities and hold mixed league value until the incumbent returns. Pestano, 27, posted a 2.32 ERA and 84/24 K/BB rate over 62 innings during his rookie campaign in 2011. Keep an eye on Perez's progress over the next month before deciding to spend a late-round pick on his replacement.

Mon Jul 18 201116:06Vinnie Pestano records second save
Vinnie Pestano retired all three batters he faced in the first game of Monday's doubleheader for his second save of the year.
The Indians wanted Chad Durbin to finish out a 5-0 game against the Twins, but he gave up a single and a homer to the two batters he faced. Pestano got up after the single and Chris Perez began to warm after the homer. Since Pestano was ready first, he replaced Durbin, and the Indians were able to save Perez in case they need him in the nightcap.

Tue Jun 7 201120:03Vinnie Pestano ready to go
Vinnie Pestano is available to pitch for the Indians again after recovering from his recent back woes.
Pestano was cleared on Monday, but Indians manager Manny Acta wanted to give him one more day just to be safe. "We were pretty relieved just to find out the first day that it was just back spasms," Acta said. "Those things can come and go pretty quick. The way he's thrown the ball, he's very important for our bullpen." Pestano has posted a 1.29 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio over 21 innings this season.

Sun Jun 5 201111:49Vinnie Pestano's back is 'pretty stiff'
Vinnie Pestano said Sunday that his lower back was still "pretty stiff" after he had to leave Saturday's game with the ailment.
He's considered day-to-day but certainly won't pitch Sunday. "I'm not looking for it to be a long-term thing," said the reliever. Pestano holds a 1.29 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and impressive 27/8 K/BB ratio over 21 innings this season.

Mon Mar 28 201112:17Pestano lands spot in Indians' bullpen
Vinnie Pestano has earned a spot in the Indians' bullpen.
Nice to see. Pestano, 26, turned in a 1.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 57 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He should do well in a setup role.

Wed Feb 23 201106:35Vinnie Pestano being considered for bullpen
The Indians are considering giving Vinnie Pestano one of their two vacant bullpen spots.
A September call-up last season, Pestano performed solidly in limited opportunities, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight in five innings. Earlier in 2010, he tore up the minors, compiling an amazing 1.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in combined Double-A and Triple-A. With vocal encouragement from manager Manny Acta, Pestano likely controls his own destiny this spring.

Thu Sep 23 201014:01Indians add Vinnie Pestano from Triple-A
Indians purchased the contract of RHP Vinnie Pestano from Triple-A Columbus.
Pestano, 25, posted a 1.55 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 46 1/3 innings of relief this season for the Columbus Clippers. He's a fairly promising relief prospect, despite his age, and should see a lot of action in the bigs.
