Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said that David Purcey (foot) is progressing and should be able to return from the disabled list when rosters expand on September 1.
Purcey sprained ligaments in his right foot covering first base on August 12. It's not known if he'll go out on a rehab assignment first.

Blue Jays placed reliever David Purcey on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 12, with strained ligaments in his right foot.
Purcey suffered the injury covering first base during Thursday's game. He's posted an outstanding 2.81 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 24 relief appearances this season.

David Purcey, who injured his right foot during Thursday's game, is currently listed as day-to-day.
"It's good, it's not the ankle, it's the ligaments in my foot," said Purcey, who suffered the injury covering first base. He hasn't played catch or been able to run on the foot yet, but is optimistic that he should be able to do within a few days. If the Jays don't blow through their bullpen in the next few days, he could avoid a DL stint.

David Purcey suffered an ankle injury in the sixth inning of Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
"We'll know more tomorrow," Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "We have to check the X-rays and things like that. It's pretty swollen right now." Chances are Purcey will land on the 15-day disabled list. He has posted a tremendous 2.81 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 24 relief appearances this season.

Blue Jays recalled LHP David Purcey from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Purcey has held lefties to a .188 batting average down in the Triple-A Las Vegas bullpen and has surrendered no earned runs in 14 of his 17 outings. The Blue Jays believe he can bring some stability to the middle of their bullpen, and they're probably right.
