Sun May 5 201301:29Brandon League takes loss in 10th
Brandon League took his first loss after giving up a walkoff homer to Guillermo Quiroz in his second inning of work Saturday against the Giants.
The Dodgers were asking League to pitch two innings for the first time this season, and he gave up his second homer in four appearances after not allowing any in his first 36 appearances with the club dating back to last summer's trade. Since League is still 8-for-9 saving games, his closer's role isn't in question.

Sun Apr 28 201319:12Brandon League picks up eight save of season
Brandon League picked up his eight save of the season in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
League blew his first save earlier this week, so he needed to bounce back. He didn't have any strikeouts but was able to finish off Clayton Kershaw's four-hitter. With Kenley Jansen lurking in a setup role, League will need to continue to pitch well to keep his job.

Wed Apr 24 201323:21League blows first save of season vs. Mets
Brandon League blew his first save of 2013 in the Dodgers' extra-innings loss to the Mets on Wednesday.
League entered the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead, but a leadoff double by Mike Baxter was followed two batters later by David Wright's two-out single. Blown save notwithstanding, League is still a passable closer despite the fact that a better option exists on his own team. And with the money the Dodgers are paying him, League won't be removed from the role due to one rough outing.

Sun Apr 21 201317:06League tallies fifth save, Dodgers defeat O's
Brandon League tallied his fifth save of the season Sunday in the Dodgers' 7-4 win over the Orioles.
League allowed a single to Oriroles outfielder Nolan Reimold but tossed an otherwise perfect ninth inning. He boasts a 2.57 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in seven total frames this season and should be a solid fantasy closer all year. Kenley Jansens remains in a setup role.

Thu Apr 11 201301:48Brandon League notches third save
Brandon League recorded his third save Wednesday despite allowing two runs -- one earned -- in the ninth against the Padres.
The Dodgers have to know that Kenley Jansen is their best reliever. Still, League is the closer and that's not such a bad thing. He's a perfect 9-for-9 in save opportunities since joining the team last year.

Tue Nov 6 201213:28League's contract could reach $33.5 million
According to a source familiar with the deal, Brandon League's three-year contract with the Dodgers could reach upwards of $33.5 million after incentives and a potential player option for 2016.
League will earn base salaries of $4.5 million in 2013, $7.5 million in 2014 and $7.5 million in 2015, plus a $3 million signing bonus. However, if League finishes 55 games in 2015, the deal triggers a $7.5 million player option for 2016. If he finishes 55 games in 2015 and 100 games over 2014-2015, that option becomes $8.5 million, and if he finishes 55 games in 2015 and 150 games between 2013-2015 it becomes $9 million. There's also $500,000 in potential incentives that can be earned along the way.

Tue Oct 30 201220:53League re-signs with Dodgers, will be closer
Dodgers signed RHP Brandon League to a three-year contract extension with a vesting option for 2016.
Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com reports that League will get $22.5 million for the first three years. Not only are the Dodgers overpaying League, but general manager Ned Colletti says they're viewing him as their closer over Kenley Jansen. It's surprising given that Jansen has clearly been a better pitcher over the last two and a half seasons, but perhaps they remain concerned about Jansen's heart issue. League converted all six save chances for the Dodgers down the stretch this year while posting a 2.30 ERA and striking out a batter per inning.

Tue Oct 30 201219:57Report: Brandon League re-signs with Dodgers
Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that Brandon League has re-signed with the Dodgers.
Hernandez doesn't have the financials at this time, but he says it's a three-year deal. League pitched well for the Dodgers down the stretch, posting a 2.30 ERA over 28 appearances while striking out a batter per inning. He would be used in a setup role ahead of Kenley Jansen.

Sat Oct 27 201213:44Dodgers talking three-year deal with League
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are talking to Brandon League's representatives about a three-year contract.
League converted all six of his save opportunities with the Dodgers after coming over at the trade deadline and is eligible for free agency for the first time this winter. Ideally, League will be used to set-up for Kenley Jansen. He made $5 million in 2012, his final year of arbitration.

Fri Oct 26 201215:16Colletti encouraged by Brandon League talks
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti has been "encouraged" by early contract talks with impending free agent Brandon League.
League pitched well in his time with the Dodgers, posting a 2.30 ERA over 28 appearances while striking out a batter per inning. He might be able to get a shot at a closer gig somewhere, but it sounds like he'd be willing to set up for Kenley Jansen if the price is right. League made $5 million in 2012.

Thu Oct 4 201223:36Dodgers want to keep League, Wright, Choate
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Thursday that the team is interested in re-signing impending free agents Brandon League, Jamey Wright and Randy Choate.
League got off to a bit of a slow start after coming over from the Mariners, but allowed just one earned run over his final 21 appearances. He should draw interest from multiple teams due to his previous closer experience. Choate held left-handed batters to a .158 batting average this year while Wright posted a 3.72 ERA and 54/30 K/BB ratio over 67 2/3 innings.

Tue Oct 2 201201:43Brandon League records win for Dodgers
Branbon League notched the win in relief as the Dodgers beat the Giants 3-2 on Monday to stay alive in NL wild card race.
The Dodgers are two behind the Cardinals with two to play, so they can be eliminated with one more St. Louis victory. They won tonight when Elian Herrera singled in Hanley Ramirez in the bottom of the ninth. League pitched a scoreless top of the ninth, giving him a 2.39 ERA in 26 1/3 innings for L.A. He's been a nice pickup for Ned Colletti.

Tue Jul 31 201201:15Dodgers acquire Brandon League from Mariners
Dodgers acquired RHP Brandon League from Mariners for OF Leon Landry and RHP Logan Bawcom.
League has a 3.63 ERA and 27/19 K/BB ratio over 44 2/3 innings this season. He was removed from the closer role after a rough stretch earlier this season, but has pitched quite well in a set-up role recently. Still, the Mariners would have done a lot better had they traded him when his value was high over the winter. The 29-year-old right-hander will be a free agent following the season.

Sun Jun 10 201214:47Brandon League to get closer job back soon
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said he's pleased with how Brandon League has been throwing the ball lately and will put him back in the closer role "sooner than later."
League has allowed just one run while striking out six and walking one over 6 2/3 frames since being removed from the closer role late last month. Tom Wilhelmsen has looked very good while converting all three save chances since taking over in the ninth inning, but it sounds like he'll be back in a setup role soon.

Sun Jun 10 201210:20Mariners getting calls on Brandon League
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Mainers have "received some inquiries" on Brandon League.
It's no surprise, as League has been viewed as a likely trade chip for the M's at the deadline. Cafardo didn't mention which teams have asked Seattle about him, but League could be used in a setup or closing role for whichever team acquires him.

Tue Jun 5 201202:08Brandon League records a hold
Brandon League pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn a hold Monday against the Angels.
League did allow an RBI single to Mike Trout after taking over for Jason Vargas in the sixth, but he finished out the inning from there, and after walking Albert Pujols to start the seventh, he struck out the last three batters he faced. It was a positive outing as he attempts to regain the closer's role in Seattle.

Sat May 26 201217:12Mariners remove League from ninth-inning gig
The Mariners have removed Brandon League from their closer role.
"We'll match up with what we think works," manager Eric Wedge said. ''It's not ideal, but this is where we're at. We're not going to name another closer.'' No current reliever on the Mariners' staff has a save this season other than League, but setup man Tom Wilhelmsen figures to be the early favorite for ninth-inning opportunities going forward. Shawn Kelley, Charlie Furbush, and Steve Delabar could all also get looks in certain situations.
