Kozma will provide the Cardinals with another bat off the bench for what will likely be the remainder of the season. The 26-year-old shortstop hit .248/.330/.372 at Triple-A this season, but will probably see limited playing time with the Cardinals in September.

Wed Jun 25 201411:27Cards DFA former starting SS Pete Kozma
Cardinals designated INF Pete Kozma for assignment.
Kozma came up big for the Cards down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs in 2012, but he hit a sickly .217/.275/.273 last year as the starting shortstop and was no longer in the team's plans. He can't hit a lick, but Kozma's steady glove could draw some interest on waivers.

Cardinals recalled INF Pete Kozma from Triple-A Memphis.
Kozma is batting .234/.341/.372 in 59 games this season at Memphis and is doubtful to get much playing time in what will likely be an abbreviated stay with St. Louis. He was the Cardinals' starting shortstop last year but they of course signed Jhonny Peralta over the winter.

Wed Mar 19 201420:50Cardinals making Kozma available for trade
Adam Rubin on ESPNNewYork.com reports the Cardinals are making Pete Kozma available in trade talks.
Rubin also notes that despite his availability and the Mets' desire to acquire a starting shortstop, the team isn't believed to be interested in the soon-to-be 26-year-old. It's not surprising, as Komza doesn't offer much of an upgrade at the plate over current shortstop Ruben Tejada. The Tigers may have some interest in Kozma to fill in during Jose Iglesias' absence.

Pete Kozma is starting at shortstop for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLCS.

Pete Kozma had a nice night at the dish in Sunday's loss to the Pirates in Game 3 of the NLDS, going 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored and stolen base.
Unfortunately, aside from Kozma and Carlos Beltran, the rest of the Cardinals offense struggled to produce against Francisco Liriano and company. It was Kozma's first game played in the series, after Daniel Descalso got the call at shortstop against opposing right-handers in the first two games of the series.

Pete Kozma is starting at shortstop for Sunday's Game 3 against the Pirates.
With left-hander Francisco Liriano on the mound, Kozma gets the call over Daniel Descalso. He was actually worse against southpaws this season, sporting a pathetic .184/.280/.256 batting line.

Sat Sep 14 201300:15Kozma scores winning run vs. Mariners
Pete Kozma singled, stole a base, and scored two runs in a 2-1 win over the Mariners in 10 innings on Friday.
Kozma didn't start the game, but that didn't stop him from making a major impact. After entering the game as a pinch-runner in the eighth inning, he stole third base and scored the tying run. He later singled with two outs in the 10th inning and scored the winning run after Mariners catcher Mike Zunino failed to handle a pitch to Matt Holliday.

Wed Sep 11 201311:31SS Kozma has started three consecutive games
Pete Kozma started his third consecutive game on Tuesday.
Just when it appeared that the recently-recalled Ryan Jackson might steal his job (or at least lift all of his at-bats against southpaws), Kozma finally got hot. He extended his hitting streak to four games on Tuesday and has gone 5-for-12 (.417) in that span. "He knows that we've had confidence in him," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "It's something that we've continued to try and show to him and that he sees it on a consistent basis whether things are going well or not." Matheny may eschew a traditional platoon in favor of a "hot hand" approach to the position. The skipper has said he'll continue to find at-bats for Daniel Descalso and Jackson.

Sun Sep 8 201319:08Kozma goes 2-for-3 with walk, double, 2 runs
Pete Kozma went 2-for-3 with a walk, double and two runs scored in the Cardinals' victory over the Pirates on Sunday in St. Louis.
Kozma hit safely in all three games of St. Louis' weekend sweep of the Pirates, a much-needed offensive pick-me-up for a player fighting to keep his job. Kozma, a defensive whiz, is still batting only .218/.276/.275. Ryan Jackson is expected to steal some of his at-bats against southpaws over the next three weeks.

Pete Kozma went 0-for-3 in the Cardinals' loss to the Pirates on Wednesday in St. Louis.
Kozma is now batting .226/.275/.285 in 110 games this year and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It might be time for the Cards to give Ryan Jackson a try.

Thu Jul 11 201309:39Mathney says he hasn't given up on Kozma
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Wednesday that he hasn't given up on Pete Kozma.
Daniel Descalso has started at shortstop over Kozma in five of the Cardinals' past six games, but Kozma should be back in there Thursday. "You can't complain for one second what we've seen (defensively) from Pete Kozma," Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "And we can't forget either a lot of the big hits that he's had."

Sun Jul 7 201311:42Pete Kozma back in lineup Sunday
Pete Kozma is back in the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.
The slumping Kozma had been benched for three straight games as he worked on his swing. He remains the team's starting shortstop but probably doesn't have much leash with Daniel Descalso playing well at the big league level and Ryan Jackson doing well at Triple-A.

Thu Jul 4 201321:43Pete Kozma to sit out two straight
Pete Kozma is not in the Cardinals' lineup Thursday and is expected to sit out Friday's game, as well.
Kozma is in the midst of a 0-for-17 slump at the plate that has dropped his yearly line to an ugly .236/.281/.299. The Cards are hoping a couple days off to clear his head will help, but that's probably wishful thinking. Daniel Descalso will handle shortstop Thursday and Friday.
