Sampson was named the International League pitcher of the week, going 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA and 14:2 K:BB ratio in 13.2 innings for Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 23-year-old righthander has posted a 2.69 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 67:19 K:BB ratio in 73.2 Triple-A frames. He's likely Pittsburgh's first home-grown hurler to get the nod for a spot start this summer, but veteran lefty Clayton Richard is also having a good season for Indy and may slot ahead of Sampson.
