Chamberlain agreed to a one-year contract with the Tigers on Tuesday.

Chamberlain blew a save chance in the ninth inning Sunday against the Blue Jays, giving up a run on two hits and two walks (one intentional to create a force play) while striking out two.
With Joakim Soria going on the DL and Joe Nathan throwing over 50 pitches combined Friday and Saturday, the Tigers turned to Chamberlain, who once again (he also blew a save in a similar situation in a Sunday night game against the Red Sox earlier this year) couldn't get the job done. It was even more costly this time, as the game ultimately went 19 innings and severely taxed the rest of the bullpen and even Tuesday's scheduled starter Rick Porcello.

Chamberlain gave up a run on two hits in the 10th inning Saturday, taking the loss against the Jays.
The Tigers' bullpen is in complete shambles right now, with Joe Nathan recording his sixth blown save of the season and Joakim Soria leaving Saturday's game with a lower-back injury. Chamberlain could potentially see some save opportunities if Nathan loses his job and Soria's injury turns out to be serious, but he didn't inspire confidence with Saturday's performance.
Sun Jun 8 201423:45Joba Chamberlain blows save in loss to BoSox
Joba Chamberlain picked up his second blown save of the season in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox, surrendering a three-run homer to David Ortiz.
Chamberlain, filling in for the struggling Joe Nathan who had pitched the previous two nights, allowed a leadoff single to Brock Holt and a one-out walk to Dustin Pedroia before Oritz's dramatic blast. This may quell the rumblings of Chamberlain replacing Nathan in the ninth inning, at least until Nathan blows up once more.

Sat May 31 201401:43Joba Chamberlain records second save
With Joe Nathan getting the day off after pitching in three straight games, Joba Chamberlain pitched a hitless ninth for his second save Friday against the Mariners.
Chamberlain is clearly second in line for saves in Detroit, and things could get very interesting if Nathan blows another opportunity in the near future. Still, the Tigers would much prefer to have Nathan bounce back.

Tue Apr 22 201423:57Chamberlain earns save as Tigers top ChiSox
Joba Chamberlain picked up his first save of the season, recording the final out of the game as the Tigers beat the White Sox on Tuesday.
Phil Coke got into some trouble, entering the ninth inning with a five-run lead. Chamberlain walked Dayan Viciedo, then got Alexei Ramirez to line out for the 27th and final out of the game for the save. It's his first save since April 27 last season and the sixth of his career. Closer Joe Nathan, who has struggled lately with a self-described "dead arm", warmed up but was not needed.

Thu Feb 27 201414:26Chambrelain throwing 89-91 mph in debut
Joba Chamberlain's fastball velocity was in the 89-91 mph range on Thursday against the Braves.
It's early in camp and still a bit cold in Florida, so it's hard to make much of the poor velocity at this point. Chamberlain recorded a strikeout and worked around a base hit in his one scoreless inning of work. He averaged 94.6 mph on his fastball in 2013 -- his final season with the Yankees.

Sat Feb 22 201413:34Joba Chamberlain will compete for setup role
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus indicated Saturday that Joba Chamberlain will compete with Bruce Rondon to begin the season as the team's primary setup man in front of closer Joe Nathan.
Ausmus would prefer to keep one person in that role instead of sharing the eighth inning, and hopes that one of the duo will step up and claim it as their own this spring. With a 39-year-old closer, whoever finds himself second in line for saves in the Tigers bullpen could be an attractive draft target for those speculating on saves.

Sun Jan 26 201409:55Joba Chamberlain loses 15 pounds
Joba Chamberlain has lost 15 pounds over the offseason after beginning a new nutrition program.
The program involves eating a lot of fish, something Chamberlain said he'd tried "maybe three times in my life" before his new diet. "I'm from Nebraska," he said. "We don't have fish in Nebraska." Chamberlain inked a $2.5 million deal over the winter and will be used to help set up for Joe Nathan.

Fri Dec 13 201311:07Tigers make Joba Chamberlain deal official
Tigers signed RHP Joba Chamberlain to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
Chamberlain has passed a physical, making the deal official. The 28-year-old right-hander had an ugly 4.93 ERA and 38/26 K/BB ratio over 42 innings this past season, but he's still only 28 and throws very hard. He'll help set up for Joe Nathan.

Thu Dec 12 201313:50Joba's deal with Tigers worth $2.5 million
Joba Chamberlain's one-year deal with the Tigers is worth $2.5 million, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.
Chamberlain could earn more with performance-bonuses. While the 28-year-old right-hander has seen his career go off course since he burst onto the scene in 2007 and 2008, the Tigers are willing to gamble on a turnaround. It's not a bad gamble at this price.

Thu Dec 12 201312:03Tigers have 'serious interest' in Chamberlain
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Tigers have "serious interest" in signing reliever Joba Chamberlain.
The Tigers are in the market for relief help and appear willing to take a chance on Chamberlain after his career fizzled out in New York. The 28-year-old posted a rough 4.93 ERA and 38/26 K/BB ratio in 42 innings this past season. The Astros, Indians, Tigers, Rockies, Cubs and Royals have also been mentioned as possible landing spots this winter.

Wed Dec 11 201313:59Tigers could be a fit for Joba Chamberlain
Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Tigers could be a landing spot for free agent pitcher Joba Chamberlain.
Chamberlain is looking to rebound with a change of scenery. The Tigers, in search of relief help, would make sense. Chamberlain has a 4.25 ERA since moving to the bullpen at the start of 2010, averaging nearly a strikeout per inning pitched.

Tue Dec 10 201320:25Astros interested in Joba Chamberlain
Even Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros have interest in Joba Chamberlain.
It's also been reported that the ndians, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Cubs and Royals have interest in the enigmatic. Chamberlain has had trouble staying healthy and has posted a 4.74 ERA over the last two seasons, but he'd be an interesting buy-low candidate for the Astros.

Tue Dec 10 201319:48Five teams in on Joba Chamberlain
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Indians, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Rockies and Cubs are showing "varying levels of interest" in Joba Chamberlain.
It's been reported previously that the Royals have also shown interest. Chamberlain hasn't started a game since 2009, but it would be interesting to see if anyone would consider giving him a shot in that role. He posted a 4.93 ERA and 38/26 K/BB ratio in 42 innings this past season for the Yankees.

Tue Dec 10 201316:20D'Backs say they haven't made offer to Joba
The Diamondbacks are denying that they've made a contract offer to free agent Joba Chamberlain.
ESPN's Buster Olney reported Tuesday that the D'Backs had offered Chamberlain a one-year, $3 million deal. But that report is now being refuted by the Arizona front office. Chamberlain, 28, posted a rough 4.93 ERA and 38/26 K/BB ratio in 42 innings this past season for the Yankees. The Cubs and Royals are thought to have interest.

Tue Dec 10 201315:58D-Backs offer 1-yr, $3M deal to Chamberlain
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Diamondbacks have offered Joba Chamberlain a one-year deal worth close to $3 million.
Chamberlain might be hard-pressed to find much better, but FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that money isn't the motivating factor. The 28-year-old posted a disappointing 4.93 ERA and 38/26 K/BB ratio over 42 innings this past season, but someone will surely take him on as a reclamation project.
