Barnes went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Thursday's win over Philadelphia.
A terrific day for Barnes, and if he can hit more in the short term, he'll have a chance to carve out playing time in a Rockies outfield that's not exactly tearing it up offensively. However, the 29-yeaar-old was hitting just .205 in Triple-A and has never done much at the MLB level, so fantasy owners outside of NL-only formats probably won't find much intrigue here.
Wed May 20 201517:32Barnes recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday
Barnes was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Despite Barnes' meager .205/.266/.364 batting line in Triple-A, he'll get a shot at a bench role with the Rockies following the injury to Corey Dickerson. He probably won't see everyday starts, but could receive an occasional nod at any of the three outfield spots.

Barnes has a woeful .262 on-base percentage over 133 plate appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque.
A surprising cut by the Rockies during spring training, Barnes' early returns at the Triple-A level won't put him under consideration for a cal-up unless a rash of injuries hit the big club. Though his five homers are tied for the Albuquerque lead, Barnes' low-contact skills have been exposed in an everyday role. He's best optimized as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch-hitter off the bench, a role he excelled in last season for the Rockies.
Wed Apr 1 201520:45Barnes optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday
Barnes was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
Barnes was originally in contention to earn the Rockies' fifth outfielder job, but the team will instead roll with starters Corey Dickerson, Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez, while Drew Stubbs occupies the reserve role. If any of those options go down to injury at any point, look for Barnes to hear his name called.
Tue Mar 24 201521:39Barnes appears in line to open season as Rockies' fifth outfield...
Barnes appears in line to open the season as the Rockies' fifth outfielder, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Both of the Rockies' projected reserves -- Barnes and Drew Stubbs -- possess the ability to play all three outfield spots, giving the team solid depth in the event historically fragile Carlos Gonzalez breaks down again at some point in 2015. In addition to offering utility as a late-inning defensive replacement, Barnes thrived as a bench bat last season, accruing a .338/.378/.610 line over the 85 plate appearances he made in games he didn't start.
Mon Sep 15 201411:21Barnes 2-4 with double and RBI in Sunday's loss to Cardinals
Barnes went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.
Barnes was making just his second start in the last nine games, as the recent return of Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) from the DL has mostly prevented Barnes from seeing regular at-bats. He'll generally see most of his action as a pinch-hitter or late-inning defensive replacement.

Barnes hit his seventh home run the season and drove in two runs in Saturday's win over the Marlins.
Barnes' two-run shot helped the Rockies erase an early one-run deficit. He's picked up starts in two of the last three games with Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) unavailable, but his run of playing time could be coming to an end after Cuddyer was able to pinch hit in Saturday's contest.
Thu Jul 31 201402:45Barnes 1-5 against Cubs on Wednesday
Barnes went 1-for-5 against the Cubs on Wednesday. His lone hit broke up the 4-4 tie in the 10th inning.
The reserve outfielder came through in the clutch with the go-ahead single in the 10th inning that proved to be the game winner. Barnes was hitting just .170 in his previous 123 at-bats before that 10th-inning single, and currently owns a .241/.291/.392 batting line in his limited playing time.
Wed Jul 30 201423:33Barnes delivers go-ahead run in 10th inning
Brandon Barnes broke a 4-4 tie in the 10th inning with an RBI single, his only hit in five at-bats in Wednesday's win against the Cubs.
The Rockies had loaded the bases against lefty Wesley Wright and Barnes dropped a single into left field to put his club up 5-4. It was a rare sign of life from the outfielder, who has played sparingly while slashing .241/.291/.392 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 218 plate appearances.

Fri Jul 25 201414:29Blue Jays interested in Brandon Barnes
Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports that the Blue Jays have been scouting Brandon Barnes.
Saunders notes that the Jays have "not yet put together a deal for Barnes," but a trade of the outfielder "at the right price, could make sense." Barnes is only a career .237/.285/.345 hitter over parts of three major league seasons, but he's a gifted defensive outfielder who can play all three spots.

Sat Jun 14 201420:06Brandon Barnes hits clutch inside-the-parker
Brandon Barnes hit a go-ahead two-run inside-the-park homer in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Giants.
The Rockies were down to their final out in the top of the ninth inning when Barnes hit a ball into right-center field that bounced past Angel Pagan and trickled all the way to the wall. Charlie Blackmon scored easily from first base and Barnes showed tremendous hustle right behind him. It was the second consecutive blown save for Giants closer Sergio Romo. Barnes is batting .306/.348/.460 this season as a utility outfielder.

Sat Jun 7 201421:12Brandon Barnes delivers game-winner
Brandon Barnes tripled in Justin Morneau in the bottom of the 10th to give the Rockies a 5-4 win over the Dodgers on Saturday.
A good center fielder probably would have caught Barnes' drive to the wall, but Andre Ethier didn't even make the attempt. It proved to be Barnes' second hit in two at-bats off the bench. He's been excellent in his bit role this year, hitting .312 and playing excellent defense, but the Rockies haven't been finding much more than one start per week for him even with Michael Cuddyer previously on the DL and Carlos Gonzalez there now.

Sun Apr 27 201421:33Barnes has three-hit day in win over Dodgers
Brandon Barnes went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the Rockies' win over the Dodgers on Sunday.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Barnes delivered a two-run single to give the Rockies the lead. He's got a seven-game hitting streak that's raised his average to .360. The Rockies outfield is crowded, but it'll be hard for manager Walt Weiss to keep Barnes out of the lineup when he's this hot.

Thu Mar 20 201418:04Barnes enjoys productive day vs. Brewers
Brandon Barnes had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a homer against the Brewers on Thursday.
Barnes took Wei-Chung Wang deep for a solo shot in the third inning. He would have finished the day 3-for-3 but was robbed of a hit by third baseman Aramis Ramirez. Still, Barnes is hitting a lofty .381 over 42 Cactus League at-bats. He has certainly played his way into consideration for a spot on the Rockies' roster as a back-up outfielder.

Mon Mar 3 201417:28Barnes goes 2-for-3 Monday vs. Mariners
Brandon Barnes went 2-for-3 with two singles, an RBI, and a stolen base Monday against the Mariners.
Barnes is now hitting .571 after three Cactus League games. The Rockies acquired him back in January in the Dexter Fowler trade. Barnes is competing for a spot as a back-up outfielder but faces a lot of competition for playing time in Drew Stubbs, Corey Dickerson, and Charlie Blackmon.

Tue Dec 3 201317:32Rockies get Barnes, Lyles from the Astros
Rockies acquired OF Brandon Barnes and RHP Jordan Lyles from the Astros for OF Dexter Fowler and a PTBNL.
Barnes is a .233/.282/.330 hitter in 550 major league plate appearances. He has some speed and can cover ground in the outfield, but the 27-year-old is doubtful to suddenly become a fantasy star in Colorado.

Sat Sep 7 201300:28Barnes ejected for arguing hit by pitch
Brandon Barnes was ejected from Friday's game against the A's in the sixth inning for arguing whether or not he should be awarded first base after being hit by a pitch.
The umpire ruled that Barnes leaned into the pitch, and therefore wasn't awarded first base, which infuriated Barnes. It's the first time this entire season that an Astros player has been tossed from a game, and came from the bench after Barnes continued to chirp at the home plate umpire Alan Porter.

Wed Sep 4 201301:19Barnes homers, drives in five against Twins
Brandon Barnes went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI against the Twins on Tuesday.
Barnes had a knack for getting the big hit on Tuesday, as he drove in two runs with a single in the seventh inning before launching a game-tying three-run homer off Twins closer Glen Perkins in the ninth. The 27-year-old has an intriguing combination of power and speed, but the rest of the profile suggests he's best left alone in mixed leagues.

Brandon Barnes (back) is available on Thursday.
Barnes was removed from Wednesday night's game against the Orioles due to lower back stiffness, but he woke up feeling fine on Thursday. The 27-year-old outfielder is batting just .245/.297/.357 this season.

Wed Jul 31 201321:24Brandon Barnes exits with back tightness
Brandon Barnes left Wednesday's game against the Orioles with lower back tightness.
He can probably be safely considered day-to-day. Barnes went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored before leaving.
