Sun Sep 14 201412:06Beason (foot) active for Sunday's contest against Cardinals
Beason (foot) is active for Sunday's contest against the Cardinals, Pat Hanlon of the Giants' official site reports.
Unless the Giants increase Beason's usage rate -- 64 percent of defensive snaps in Week 1 -- his IDP potential won't reach the relevance of even mid-tier linebackers throughout the league. He's coming off a four-tackle performance Monday in Detroit.
Fri Sep 12 201415:42Beason (foot) probable for Sunday's game against Arizona
Beason (foot) is probable for Sunday's game against Arizona.
Beason logged just two limited practices this week (Wednesday and Friday), but the Giants are evidently limiting his activity in a planned fashion to keep him fresh for Sundays. He only played 64 percent of the Giants' snaps in Week 1, though, so he's not an ideal IDP option unless he stays on the field more consistently.
Fri Sep 12 201401:50Beason (foot) missed practice Thursday
Beason (foot) missed practice Thursday, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Coach Tom Coughlin expects Beason to play, but he could share snaps again with Jameel McClain as Beason apparently still has soreness in his broken foot.
Mon Sep 8 201418:00Beason (foot) active for Monday's game against Lions
Beason (foot) is active for Monday's game against the Lions, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports.
Graziano adds that Beason is slated to start at middle linebacker Monday, though it's possible that he may see limited snaps in the contest.
Mon Sep 8 201412:24Beason (foot) expects to start Monday night's game against Lions
Beason (foot) expects to start Monday night's game against the Lions, The Record reports.
Beason is listed as probable ahead of Monday's game, but it appears the linebacker will be good to go after missing the entire preseason with a ligament tear in his foot. While Beason expects to start, it wouldn't be surprising if his involvement is closely monitored to ensure he remains healthy for the long haul. As such, both Jameel McClain and Devon Kennard should see significant playing time Monday night.
Sat Sep 6 201415:30Beason (foot) probable for Monday's season opener against Lions
Beason (foot) is probable for Monday's season opener against the Lions, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
Beason was limited in practice this week, but looks like he'll be able to suit up against Detroit on Monday. He'll likely fill a backup linebacker role, and it's unclear how much of an impact he'll have while he's still recovering.

Beason (foot) was listed on the Giants' injury report as a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Beason was activated from the Giants' PUP list last Saturday after missing the preseason with a ligament tear in his foot. Now expected to be fully healthy in the near future, Beason has resumed practicing and will continue to do so leading up to Monday night's regular season opener. The veteran is expected to suit up, although his participation level will probably be determined closer to kickoff. As of now, Jameel McClain is slated to start at middle linebacker, with promising rookie Devon Kennard at the Giants' weakside position.
Sat Aug 30 201414:16Beason (foot) activated from PUP list Saturday
Beason (foot) was activated from the PUP list Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
During OTAs, Beason suffered a ligament tear and a small fracture to the sesamoid in his right foot, which wiped out his entire preseason. However, he's recovered enough to be a consideration for Week 1, as he strives for his first 100-tackle since 2010.

Beason (foot) is making progress and could be activate from the PUP early next week, giving him a chance to suit up for Week 1, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
We'll know more on Monday, but even if Beason does play Week 1, chances are his snap count will be limited. Still, he's close to returning and once he's up to speed, he should be a good source of tackles.

Beason (foot) is scheduled for an examination Wednesday that could clear him to return to practice, Art Stapleton of the Bergen Record reports.
While Monday's practice was ongoing, the Giants' training staff worked Beason hard, likely in order forecast how he feels one day removed from a rigorous workout. Clearance for practice would provide confidence in his ability to play in Week 1, but that call is still up in the air.
Mon Aug 25 201400:17Beason has looked good while rehabbing foot
Beason has looked good while rehabbing his foot, and there's a chance he'll be able to suit up for Week 1, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
The report is speculative, but Beason was apparently working out at full speed and appeared close to being back. When he does return, he'll start at middle linebacker and be a nice source of tackles.
Tue Jul 29 201413:59Jon Beason (foot) sprinting on treadmill
Giants MLB Jon Beason (foot) was seen sprinting on a treadmill off to the side of training camp practice Tuesday.
Beason is just six weeks into his 12-week timetable, but appears to be making substantial progress. He wants to play in preseason games. We doubt the Giants will push him out there for meaningless exhibition snaps, but Beason sounds like he's on track for the regular season opener. He remains on the active/PUP list.

Fri Jul 25 201420:47Jon Beason hopes to participate in preseason
Giants MLB Jon Beason (foot) expects to participate in preseason games.
"I would hope so," Beason said. "Based on how I feel, the way things are going. We want to be smart about it. Obviously I'm going to do what they tell me." Beason is just six weeks into his 12-week timetable, but believes his ability to heal is "a little super human." He opened training camp on active/PUP and is currently limited to running on an underwater treadmill. Beason remains questionable to be ready for Week 1.

Mon Jul 21 201417:02Jon Beason (foot) to begin camp on PUP list
Giants placed MLB Jon Beason (foot) on the active/PUP list.
The question is if Beason will remain there through the start of the regular season, costing him the Giants' first six games. At best, Beason is considered highly questionable for Week 1.

Tue Jun 17 201412:22Giants MLB Beason (foot) doesn't need surgery
Giants MLB Jon Beason does not need surgery to repair a ligament tear and small fracture to the sesamoid bone in his right foot.
Beason visited Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte over the weekend, and it's been determined that rest and rehab should do the trick. Beason's original 12-week recovery timetable doesn't change. His foot will be immobilized in a cast for three weeks then a walking boot for anther three weeks as the first part of his rehab. Beason still hopes to be ready for Week 1. Jameel McClain was working with the first-team defense as minicamp commenced on Tuesday.

Fri Jun 13 201413:28Jon Beason tears foot ligament, breaks bone
The extent of Giants MLB Jon Beason's injury is a torn ligament and fractured sesamoid bone in his right foot.
The NY Daily News believes Beason could miss "Opening Day, and maybe more," after receiving a 12-week recovery timetable. A team source said the Giants expect Beason to "need surgery and at least three months to recover." In an ideal world, Beason would resume practicing just before Week 1, although that's optimistic. The Giants will look at Mark Herzlich, Jameel McClain, and rookie Devon Kennard as short-term replacements. As the injury occurred before training camp, Beason will be eligible for the PUP list. It's a blow to the Giants' defense, albeit not nearly as severe as the Cowboys' loss of Sean Lee (ACL), or Falcons ILB Sean Weatherspoon's Achilles' tear.

Fri Jun 13 201411:22Giants MLB Beason breaks foot, out 12 weeks
NFL Network's Kimberly Jones reports Giants MLB Jon Beason suffered a "sesamoid fracture" in his right foot and will be sidelined 12 weeks.
Beason is traveling to North Carolina to visit Dr. Robert Anderson, a noted foot specialist, and will undergo surgery. The three-month timetable puts Beason right up against the clock for Week 1. It's relatively good news, all things considered. Beason shouldn't miss much, if any, regular season action, and he already knows the defense. Beason inked a new three-year, $16.8 million deal in March. Rookie Devon Kennard will handle first-team reps in Beason's absence.

Wed Mar 12 201413:48Giants strike deal to retain MLB Jon Beason
Giants re-signed MLB Jon Beason.
The Giants' 2013 in-season trade for Beason from Carolina was largely laughed at, but proved a smooth move by oft-savvy GM Jerry Reese. Beason stabilized the Giants' defense as an every-down Mike 'backer, finishing the season with 104 tackles and an interception across 11 starts. Beason remains a plus run defender at age 29, but struggles versus the pass. Still, this was a quality move by Reese to retain Beason, keeping him away from aggressive Denver.
