Bills head coach Rex Ryan said Friday that he remains cautiously optimistic McCoy (hamstring) will be available for Week 1 against the Colts, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
McCoy appears to be truly questionable, and even if he's able to play, there's some chance he'll have a limited workload. With the Bills recently releasing Fred Jackson, a McCoy absence would leave the Buffalo backfield in the hands of Karlos Williams (undisclosed), Anthony Dixon (calf) and Bryce Brown. It's unclear which running back would get the start, and only Brown finished the preseason with a clean bill of health.
Wed Sep 2 201513:00LeSean McCoy: (Hamstring) Week 1 Status in Question
ESPN's Josina Anderson relays that the Bills are concerned that McCoy (hamstring) may not be fully ready to play in the team's regular season opener against the Colts.
That's not necessarily to say that McCoy won't be available in some capacity in Week 1, but the report hints at a scenario in which the running back -- who is not yet at full speed in practice -- could possibly be on a "pitch count" out of the gate. Meanwhile, ESPN's Mike Rodak suggests that coach Rex Ryan remains cautiously optimistic with regard to McCoy's availability for the Bills' season opener. With that in mind, Ryan noted Monday, "well we certainly expect him to be ready to go, I hope...If not then the next man has to step up. Boobie [Dixon] got a lot of reps out there today. Bryce Brown got a lot of reps today. So we will see. I am not going to put that all on one man. If he is not ready to go, he won't be in there." Either way, McCoy is destined to head the Bills' backfield when he is up to speed and in "football shape," but there now appears to be some concern that said level of prime readiness may not occur before Week 1. If so, the likes of Dixon, Brown and perhaps Karlos Williams (health permitting) could be asked to handle more work early on than originally projected.

McCoy (hamstring) stretched and did rehab work at Tuesday's practice, WGR 550 reports.
McCoy may still be limited to side work at practice, but the Bills' decision to release Fred Jackson bodes well for the former Eagle's Week 1 availability. Jackson's departure could also leave McCoy with more passing-down work than previously expected.

McCoy (hamstring) will not play in Saturday's preseason game.
He was out on the field working with the training staff prior to Saturday's contest, but as expected the Bills will hold him out again. Owners and prospective owners will have to continue to monitor his status as the regular season approaches, but even if he is ready for Week 1 there will undoubtedly some rust to knock off. Fred Jackson appears in line for a good chunk of the carries Saturday.

McCoy (hamstring) was out on the field working with the strength staff prior to Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
The Bills' trainer was looking on as McCoy worked, but there has been no indication that the star running back would be able to play in Saturday's game. There is a chance he could be ready to go for Week 1, but the Bills will likely ease him back into the mix, given how many important reps he has missed in camp.
Tue Aug 25 201517:16McCoy
McCoy, who's been out with a hamstring injury since August 18, worked off to the side at Tuesday's practice, The Buffalo News reports.
Coach Rex Ryan remains optimistic that McCoy can return for the regular season opener, but even if he does there's been a bunched of missed time and the Bills may have to look to Comfortable Old Shoe Fred Jackson to take on an important role to start the season.

Bills coach Rex Ryan says the team remains hopeful McCoy (hamstring) will return for the regular season opener, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said Ryan, "When we last spoke we really never knew the extent of it and what it was going to be and everything. We kind of assumed things, but we're cautiously optimistic that he'll be ready for the opener. Barring any kind of setback we think he's going to be ready to roll."
McCoy stands to get most of the volume once he gets back on the field, and he's certainly experienced enough that he won't need more than a practice or two to be ready. Additionally, we'll be keeping a close eye on the goal-line situation, as the Bills also have Fred Jackson and Anthony Dixon, both of whom are adept at moving the pile. Each of those backs is also currently on the shelf as well.
Wed Aug 19 201509:57LeSean McCoy: (Hamstring) Expected To Play Week 1
McCoy (hamstring) is expected to be ready for Week 1, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The results of the MRI taken on McCoy's injured hamstring have not been revealed, but early indications are the setback that forced him from Tuesday's practice will not prevent him from taking the field for the Bills' season opener against the Colts. It is not clear how much more he will be available for during the rest of training camp, however, so it remains to be seen if he will be 100 percent by the time Week 1 rolls around.
Tue Aug 18 201520:01LeSean McCoy: Will Require MRI on Hamstring Strain
McCoy left Tuesday's practice with a hamstring strain and will receive an MRI.
The Bills' running back corps is already decimated due to a litany of training camp injuries, but no player's health is more critical than that of McCoy, who the team acquired from the Eagles in March before signing him to a five-year, $40 million contract. The MRI should reveal the severity of the injury, with McCoy's availability for the remainder of the preseason unknown until the results are publicized, likely on Tuesday.
Tue Aug 18 201519:17LeSean McCoy: (Leg) Exits Tuesday's Practice
McCoy exited Tuesday's practice with a left leg injury, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.
McCoy exhibited a significant limp, favoring his left hamstring, according to Sal Capaccio of WGR 550. Once a battery of initial tests are performed, the Bills will likely release the nature of the injury, at the very least, but the prognosis may not be clear off the bat.

McCoy gained 16 yards on six carries and eight yards on one reception in Friday's preseason opener against the Panthers.
The Bills kept McCoy busy on the game's first two drives while using a mix of running plays and short passes to slowly move the ball down the field. McCoy's hamstring apparently isn't bothering him anymore, so he'll likely make a couple more appearances this preseason. He's locked in as Buffalo's lead back but is expected to lose some passing-down snaps to Fred Jackson.

McCoy had a tight hamstring and had to pull out of Saturday's live scrimmage early, BuffaloBills.com reports.
McCoy already worked through a toe injury this week, but we'll see if the team was just playing it safe with its star running back and the tight hammy. Three of Buffalo's top four running backs have suffered various injuries this week.

McCoy (toe) looked good while taking 11-on-11 reps at practice Thursday, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak.
Reports surfaced Wednesday that McCoy was dealing with soreness and swelling in his toe, but the issue is evidently minor, as the Bills' lead back was able to work through it on Thursday.
Wed Aug 5 201512:47LeSean McCoy: Toe Issue
Coach Rex Ryan doesn't expect McCoy's toe issue to keep the running back out for long.
The report notes that McCoy is dealing with soreness and swelling in his toe, but suggests that he'll be available for the team's intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.
Wed Aug 5 201512:32McCoy dealing with toe issue
McCoy is dealing with a toe issue, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.
As a result, the report notes that McCoy hasn't worked in team drills over the Bills' past two practices, but so far there is noting to suggest that the running back's issue is a major one.
Wed Jun 3 201516:37McCoy (neck) participated fully in Wednesday's OTA
McCoy (neck) participated fully in Wednesday's OTA, ESPN.com reports.
After failing to practice last week due to a "slight" neck injury, he returned just one day removed from fellow RB Fred Jackson revealing that the Bulls intend to hand McCoy 300-plus carries in 2015, which he accomplished in two seasons under coach Chip Kelly in Philadelphia. Despite what the masses deemed a subpar final year with the Eagles, McCoy averaged 4.23 YPC after scampering for a collective 4.76 clip across his first five campaigns. The disappointment regarded his waning effectiveness as a receiver, as he followed 40-plus receptions in each of his initial years with 28 catches for 155 yards and no scores in 2014. With all three downs seemingly guaranteed in the fall, McCoy seems primed for a bounce-back season.

Fellow Bills running back Fred Jackson said the team plans to give McCoy (neck) over 300 carries this season, WGR 550 reports. "I don't know exactly what my role is going to be," Jackson said. "They say that they want Shady (McCoy) to get 300-plus carries next year. So that's a guy you're feeding the ball all the time. So I''ll be ready when my number is called."
McCoy didn't quite look like his old self in his final season running behind a strong offensive line in Philadelphia, but the Bills are clearly banking on a bounce back, even while dealing with some serious questions about their own o-line. Working in his favor, McCoy won't turn 27 until July, and the Bills view him as the offensive centerpiece of a roster that also includes Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, Charles Clay and Fred Jackson. While some combination of Jackson, Bryce Brown, Karlos Williams and Anthony Dixon figure to be involved, McCoy is the clear-cut lead back and should also see plenty of third-down work. Volume is seemingly the least of McCoy's concerns.

As the Bills proceed with their OTAs, McCoy is dealing with what Joe Buscaglia of wkbw.com refers to as a slight neck ailment.
Meanwhile, ESPN's Mike Rodak confirmed via coach Rex Ryan that McCoy's neck issue isn't anything serious. The running back, who was acquired from the Eagles back in March, is slated to head a Buffalo backfield that also rosters Fred Jackson, Bryce Brown, Anthony Dixon and Karlos Williams.
Tue Mar 10 201517:07LeSean McCoy: Trade To Bills Official
McCoy was officially traded to the Bills on Tuesday in exchange for Kiko Alonso.
This was simply filing the paperwork, as the deal was for all intents and purposes signed and sealed last week. McCoy will be the bell cow back under coordinator Greg Roman's run-heavy attack. However, it's worth noting Buffalo's offense hasn't chewed up the yardage anywhere close to the Eagles the past couple of seasons. That said, the Bills are placing a big bet on McCoy by trading for him, signing him to a new deal, and not bringing C.J. Spiller back into the mix.
Sun Mar 8 201512:45LeSean McCoy: Will Sign New Five-Year Deal With Bills
McCoy will sign a new five-year contract with the Bills after the trade with the Eagles is completed, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
McCoy's trade to the Bills can't become official until Tuesday, but along with the trade will come a new contract that's believed to award him more guaranteed money upfront. The Bills went with a committee at running back in the past few seasons with C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, with a little mix of Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon as well last season. McCoy will give them the possibility of a feature back, though the 26-year-old fell short of most of his expectations heading into the 2014 season. Perhaps a change of scenery will provide a boost in 2015, as he will be reunited with his former backfield teammate, Bryce Brown and with Anthony Dixon, who could factor into the workload as well. However, the move likely signifies that C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, who's contracts have expired, will be wearing different colors in 2015.
