Fri Feb 8 201314:25Cardinals to keep Peterson on punt returns
New Cardinals coach Bruce Arians plans to keep RCB Patrick Peterson on punt returns.
Peterson's punt-return efficiency slipped dramatically in his second NFL season, but the special teams workload has yet to affect his pass coverage. "He can't get his hands on the ball enough for me," Arians said. "As long as the other team is punting, he's going to be back there." Peterson averaged 15.9 yards on 44 punt returns with four touchdowns as a rookie. In 2012, his average slipped to 8.4 yards on 51 chances without a score.

Fri Sep 14 201217:11Patrick Peterson expected to play
Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson is listed as questionable for Week 2 with a groin injury, but is expected to play.
Beat writer Kent Somers considers Peterson closer to probable than questionable despite the "Q" tag. Peterson helped hold Sidney Rice under 40 yards in the season opener. We expect to see him match up with Brandon Lloyd in Week 2.

Wed Jul 25 201218:03Patrick Peterson will shadow No. 1 receivers
The Arizona Republic confirms that Patrick Peterson will "often" match up with opposing No. 1 receivers this season.
Peterson shadowed No. 1s down the stretch last season and he held his own. The best preparation Peterson can get is practicing against Larry Fitzgerald. After a promising rookie season, Peterson's play could take off in 2012. We'll be watching him closely as a potential shutdown force against fantasy receivers.

Thu Apr 26 201217:31Lions tried to trade up for Patrick Peterson
The Lions offered their first-, second-, and fourth-round picks in last year's draft in an effort to trade up for Patrick Peterson.
The Cardinals declined, but Detroit's aggressiveness to acquire secondary help last year speaks to the team's realization that cornerback remains a major problem area. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora has reported that the Lions are trying to trade up for South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore. Detroit may have to come up with an offer similar to last year's Peterson proposal, because the Lions draft later this year and Gilmore is a projected top 10-12 pick.

Fri Dec 30 201114:39Patrick Peterson to be game-day decision
Cardinals CB/PR Patrick Peterson (Achilles', questionable) will be a game-time decision for Week 17 against the Seahawks.
The Cardinals will work out Peterson during warmups to decide his status, so he's a full-blown game-day call. Peterson has four punt return TDs, and his coverage skills at corner have come on quickly in the season's second half.

Mon Dec 26 201117:23Patrick Peterson's Achilles' is not torn
A Monday MRI confirmed that Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson's Achilles' tendon has inflammation, but no tears.
It sounds like a day-to-day injury, but there are no guarantees Peterson will play again this season with it being Week 17. If he sits out against Seattle, Peterson would finish his rookie year with 60 tackles, two picks, and a sack. As a punt returner, Peterson has brought back kicks for touchdowns.

Wed Nov 23 201110:37Patrick Peterson flagged 10 times this year
Cardinals rookie CB Patrick Peterson has been called for 10 penalties for 121 yards already this season.
Peterson's performance in the punt return game has been electric, but his play at corner has been downright bad. The No. 5 overall pick ranks among the worst starting corners in the league according to Pro Football Focus and gets relentlessly attacked on a weekly basis. The Cardinals would be wise to keep him away from Brandon Lloyd on Sunday.

Thu Nov 3 201120:49Patrick Peterson leads NFL in punt returns
Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson leads the NFL with a 19.1 average on 15 punt returns this season.
With long scores of 89 and 82 yards, Peterson is already within one of franchise's career punt return touchdown mark shared by Ollie Matson and Vai Sikahema. Peterson can look forward to opposing teams kicking away from him the rest of the season.

Tue Sep 6 201113:47Patrick Peterson is No. 1 punt returner
Rookie CB Patrick Peterson is listed as Arizona's No. 1 punt returner on the first official depth chart of the season.
Peterson is also listed as a starter at cornerback. The No. 5 overall pick has impact potential as a returner. He ranked sixth nationally on punts, averaging 16.1 yards, at LSU last season. Second receiver Andre Roberts may see an occasional return, but he'll concentrate mostly on offense.

Fri Aug 19 201109:41Peterson still running as a backup
No. 5 overall pick CB Patrick Peterson has not yet cracked the starting lineup.
Despite trading Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the Cardinals are bringing Peterson along slowly. It shouldn't be a huge surprise as coach Ken Whisehunt heavily favors veterans and cornerback is one of the toughest positions in the league for a rookie. There's still time for Peterson to beat out A.J. Jefferson before Week 1, but it's looking like the switch may not happen until we get into the regular season.

Sat Jul 30 201118:15Cardinals sign top pick Patrick Peterson
Cardinals signed No. 5 overall pick Patrick Peterson to a five-year contract.
Peterson made the announcement on Twitter, and Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix confirmed the news. There had been speculation Peterson might hold out based on statements from his agent, but he'll be in Flagstaff on Sunday. Already markered in as the Cardinals' top cornerback this season, Peterson will face an awful lot of pressure and likely be targeted often by opposing offensive coordinators. It should culminate in some nice IDP value, although rookie cornerbacks tend to struggle in coverage out of the gate.

Sat Jul 30 201111:06Cards opened talks with Peterson Friday
The Cardinals opened talks with unsigned No. 5 overall pick Patrick Peterson Friday night.
Cardinals fans can breathe easy. Although the talks are late in getting going, there shouldn't be many stumbling blocks. Reliable beat writer Kent Somers wouldn't be surprised if an agreement is reached today.

Fri Jul 29 201120:50Cardinals not talking to Peterson's agent
The Cardinals haven't spoken to the agent for unsigned rookie Patrick Peterson since Wednesday.
Peterson's player rep may be trying to leverage Arizona based on the fact that he was supposedly "the best player in the draft." A previous report from an admittedly unreliable website (will remain unnamed here) had quotes from Peterson's agent suggesting a holdout was possible. The Cards need Peterson in training camp because he'll be their No. 1 corner this season.
