Thu Jun 3 201012:24Olsen likely headed for rehab stint next week
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said that Scott Olsen (shoulder) will "likely" go out on a minor league rehab appearance in about a week.
Olsen threw 33 pitches off the mound on Wednesday without pain. There's no timetable on his return from the disabled list, but the starting rotation in Washington is about to get very crowded with the arrival of Stephen Strasburg next week.

Scott Olsen (shoulder) threw 33 pitches off the mound on Wednesday.
"No pain," he said afterward. It was the first time he's thrown off the mound since May 21. He's eligible to return from the disabled list June 6 and could potentially return to the rotation next Wednesday.

Scott Olsen (shoulder) played long toss on Tuesday.
"I've been throwing every day since Saturday," said Olsen, who threw from a distance of 150 feet on Tuesday. "It's getting there." There's currently no timetable for his return, but Olsen acknowledged that he will probably need a minor league rehab assignment.

Sat May 29 201022:20Olsen plays catch, getting closer to return
Scott Olsen (shoulder) played catch on Saturday.
The Nationals are taking a kind of wait-and-see approach with Olsen, who was placed on the disabled list last weekend. He's expected to miss at least two more weeks, if not more, with a sore throwing shoulder.

Fri May 28 201020:22Olsen (shoulder) to play catch on Saturday
Scott Olsen (shoulder) said he will play catch on Saturday.
Olsen had a throwing session pushed back on Thursday in San Francisco, both because of the weather and the condition of his arm, but says that his shoulder feels "much better." We should know more after Saturday.

Thu May 27 201015:06Olsen (shoulder) held back from throwing
Scott Olsen (shoulder) was held back from throwing on Thursday.
"Talking to (trainer) Lee Kuntz, he said he would rather he didn't throw today," said Nationals manager Jim Riggleman. "Both concerns (played into it) - the conditions and also, he just really doesn't feel that (Olsen's) feeling all that strong right now. He'd rather let him rest a little longer before he does throw." Riggleman called it a precaution rather than a setback, but it's time to wonder if he will need to miss more than two starts. J.D. Martin is expected to take his place in the starting rotation on Saturday.

Sat May 22 201020:15Olsen placed on disabled list with soreness
Nationals placed LHP Scott Olsen on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.
Olsen will miss two starts instead of one as he battles a case of routine soreness in his right arm. The Nats have not made a corresponding move, but are expected to call up a pitcher from Triple-A shortly.
Sat May 22 201013:30Nationals' Olsen to miss next start
Scott Olsen will miss his next start due to shoulder inflammation according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson.
Olsen left his start on Friday night in after three innings, but he does not appear to be headed to the disabled list. Miguel Batista is the early favorite to make a start in Olsen's place. Olsen is 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP so far this season.

Fri May 21 201021:09Olsen (shoulder) listed as day-to-day
Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that Scott Olsen (shoulder) is listed as day-to-day.
Olsen was forced to miss Friday's game against the Orioles after just three innings due to left shoulder tightness. It sounds like he'll be able to make his next start, but that's certainly subject to change. Watch his status carefully if you've bought into his early success.

Fri May 21 201020:24Olsen leaves start with shoulder tightness
Scott Olsen left Friday's start against the Orioles due to left shoulder tightness.
Obviously not good news coming off surgery, but it's hardly a surprise. Olsen gave up four runs over three innings before departing.

Tue May 11 201022:45Olsen takes no-decision vs. Mets
Scott Olsen gave up two runs over 5 1/3 innings as part of a no-decision against the Mets on Tuesday night.
He wasn't quite as sharp this time, allowing nine hits, but he deserved a better fate. Unfortunately, Brian Bruney, Tyler Clippard and Miguel Batista allowed six runs to cross the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning, denying him the victory. Olsen now has a 3.51 ERA through his first six starts. He's slated to start against the Rockies this weekend.
Thu May 6 201021:53Olsen carries no-hitter into 8th in Nats win
Scott Olsen carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning Thursday as the Nationals defeated the Braves.
Olsen's no-hit bid was broken with one out remaining in the eighth and he allowed two earned runs before being pulled. He was left with a no-decision, but still lowered his ERA to 3.54 and his WHIP to 1.21. The left-hander will take on the Mets in the middle of next week.
Sat May 1 201000:11Olsen shuts down Marlins
Scott Olsen pitched six innings of shutout ball to earn his second win of the season on Friday night.
Olsen gave up five hits while striking out four and walking three. This comes on the heels of a seven inning shutout against the Dodgers in his last outing, so the southpaw definitely has our attention. He looks healthy for the first time in forever and should be owned in NL-only formats.
Sun Apr 25 201016:10Nationals' Olsen goes seven shutout in win
Scott Olsen tossed seven shutout innings to defeat the Dodgers on Sunday.
It was a lineup without Manny Ramirez or Andre Ethier, but recording eight strikeouts against one walk is still quite impressive. Olsen didn't look strong in either of his first two outings of the season, so optimism should be tempered at this point. That said, Olsen will certainly be worth watching as he tries to recover from shoulder surgery performed last summer. He'll face his former team, the Marlins, next time out.
Thu Apr 15 201018:51Nats' Olsen surrenders four runs in return
Scott Olsen yielded four runs in 5 2/3 innings Thursday against the Phillies in his season debut.
It's a 6.35 ERA, but Olsen will probably feel OK about his first start of the year. He allowed five hits, walked three and struck out five against a lineup that still ranks as one of the NL's best even with Jimmy Rollins out of the mix.
Thu Apr 15 201013:07Nats call up Scott Olsen from Triple-A
Nationals purchased the contract of LHP Scott Olsen from Triple-A Syracuse.
As expected, Olsen will start Thursday's game against the Phillies. The 26-year-old is obviously a huge question mark as he works his way back from shoulder surgery last July. His velocity will have to rebound before he can be taken seriously again in NL-only leagues.
Sun Apr 11 201011:17Olsen to join Nationals' rotation Thursday
Scott Olsen is scheduled to join the Nationals' rotation to start Thursday against the Phillies.
Olsen made one poor start at Triple-A after losing the fifth starter battle this spring, but Garrett Mock's demotion has him back in Washington. He's certainly not a recommended fantasy play versus the defending NL champs.

Fri Apr 9 201022:09Olsen goes six-plus in Triple-A start
Scott Olsen allowed four runs over 6 1/3 innings in an outing for Triple-A Syracuse on Friday night.
It might not be long before he takes Garrett Mock's spot in the rotation. The Nationals could have saved a nice chunk of change if they would have let Olsen go during spring training, so it appears they still have some hope for him. He'll continue to build arm strength in the minors, but the leash will be short on Mock if Olsen continues to make progress.
