Mejia tossed a scoreless ninth inning to log his 26th save against the Nationals on Friday night.
he had to work around a hit and an intentional walk, but he recorded a pair of strikeouts while protecting a one-run lead. Mejia was pulled from his last save opportunity after loading the bases, but the Mets insist they will stay with him as their closer so he's the one to own if you are looking for saves.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday that he intends to stick with Mejia as his closer, ESPNNewYork.com reports.
After relieving starter Jacob deGrom on Tuesday, Mejia proceeded to give up two singles, a walk and uncorked a wild pitch while recording just one out. He was pulled with the bases loaded, allowing Jeurys Familia to ultimately record his fifth save, but Mejia received an endorsement from Collins a day later. However, Collins did say that he plans to be conservative with Mejia down the stretch and added that he likely won't use him in a save situation Wednesday.

Mejia was pulled in the ninth inning Tuesday after loading the bases.
Mejia has struggled lately with his secondary pitches and also has been short arming his fastball, causing it to to end up hitting the ground before the plate. He is still pitching with a hernia, which could be causing those problems, but there has been no talk of shutting him down early.
Thu Sep 4 201402:09Mejia grabbed 23rd save of season Wednesday against Marlins
Mejia grabbed his 23rd save of the season Wednesday against the Marlins.
Mejia walked one and struck out one during a scoreless frame to slam the door shut in the comeback victory. Mejia's 3.95 ERA and 1.46 WHIP leave quite a lot to be desired, but he's also racked up 88 strikeouts in 84 innings to go along with 23 saves in 26 chances this season. Mejia has converted six straight save opportunities and has a strong grasp on the late-inning responsibilities in the Mets' bullpen.

Mejia hurled a perfect ninth inning, registering three strikeouts, to pick up his 20th save of the season against Philadelphia on Friday night.
He's banged up, including suffering from a hernia that he hopes to pitch through until the off-season, but he continues to get the job done. As long as he can keep taking the ball in the ninth he will continue to see the Mets' save opportunities while Jeurys Familia holds down the eighth inning duties as his back-up.

Mejia gave up a lone hit in a scoreless ninth inning against the Braves, recording his 19th save of the season in the process.
Felled by issues with back tightness for much of the last week, Mejia seems to have righted things on that front and reclaimed his closer's role. The hard-throwing righty plans to continue pitching through a sports hernia the rest of the season, which may still put him at risk of missing further time if his condition worsens. For that reason, it may be worthwhile to hold on to Jeurys Familia as a ninth-inning handcuff.

Mejia (back) returned to the mound Sunday, tossing a scoreless and hitless eighth inning against the Dodgers.
Mejia's last outing came Monday against the Cubs, as he has been dealing with some back tightness. The injury didn't appear to be affecting him Saturday, as he was able to retire the Dodgers in order.
Wed Aug 20 201420:50Jenrry Mejia: Dealing With Back Tightness
Mejia was unavailable Wednesday due to back tightness, ESPNNewYork.com reports.
The tightness crept up Tuesday, a day after Mejia made his fourth appearance and five days, and thus manager Terry Collins was forced to turn to Jeurys Familia to close out Wednesday's 8-5 win over the A's. Mejia believes Thursday's off day will provide enough rest for him to be ready to go for the weekend series against the Dodgers, but consider him day-to-day until he actually returns to the mound.

Mejia gave up a game-winning homer by Starlin Castro in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.
The homer came on a first-pitch fastball to Castro, an aggressive free-swinger. It was the seventh homer allowed this season by Mejia.

Mejia was back in the closer's role Friday night against the Cubs and converted the save opportunity, pitching a clean inning with one strikeout.
Mejia has now pitched on back-to-back nights after being held out for a couple of days due to a hernia. Thus it wouldn't be a shock if he were passed over for a potential save opportunity Saturday if one arises.

Mejia tossed a clean ninth inning during a non-save situation Thursday.
The Mets presumably wanted to get Mejia some work, as he hadn't pitched since Sunday. He's dealing with a couple of injuries, including a hernia that will require surgery after the season, but it appears, at least for the moment, that he will fight through it.
Mon Aug 11 201417:47Though he bypassed for Monday's save chance
Though he was bypassed for Monday's save chance, Mejia (hernia, calf) is expected to be available Tuesday, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin reports.
Mejia seems to have put the calf issue behind him by pitching Sunday, but he has since disclosed that he is dealing with a hernia and will require surgery after the season. The right-hander believes he can pitch through the injury for the final month and a half, but it might be wise for fantasy owners to handcuff him with Jeurys Familia in the event a setback occurs. Familia was tapped to close out Monday's contest, surrendering a run but recording four outs en route to his third save of the season.
Mon Aug 11 201414:56Jenrry Mejia: (Hernia) Will Continue To Pitch
Mejia (hernia) will continue to pitch as long as his arm feels OK, MLB.com's Jed Weisberger reports. "The doctors have said he can pitch," manager Terry Collins said. "As long as his arm feels fine, he can pitch."
Mejia was dealing with a right calf issue, but revealed after Sunday's game that he has also seen a doctor about a hernia. For now he will continue to take medication for the pain, and he intends to finish the season.
Sun Aug 10 201417:45Mejia
Mejia, dealing with a calf injury, announced after the Mets' 7-6 loss to the Phillies, a game in which he blew the save and took the defeat, that he has been pitching through a sports hernia, Adam Ruben of ESPN New York reports.
Mejia wants to finish the season before having surgery. He is able to pitch through the injury, but with New York likely going nowhere, it would not be surprising to see him shut down sometime in September. If that happens, look for Jeurys Familia to close.

Mejia (calf) gave up runs for the third time in five games to blow the save and the game in the Mets' 7-6 loss to the Phillies on Sunday.
New York had 2-1, 4-1. 6-1, 6-3 and 6-5 leads they couldn't hold. Mejia did not blame the injury for the loss, but he has been walking the edge with runners-on-base, which finally came back to burn him and the Mets on Sunday. Manager Terry Collins said after the game that Mejia may be affected by his workload, as his pitches have lacked crispness and their usual movement. No word has been given about inserting Jeurys Familia into the closer role, but if Mejia continues to struggle, a switch could be forthcoming.
Sat Aug 9 201416:23Mejia will not be available Saturday against Phillies
Mejia will not be available Saturday against the Phillies, Matt Ehalt of the Bergen Record reports.
The right-hander needed just 10 pitches to retire the side and earn his 17th save of the season Friday, but he admitted after the game that he's still bothered by calf tightness, and it seems manager Terry Collins doesn't want to push his luck. Should a save opportunity present itself Saturday, Jeurys Familia or Vic Black will likely get the call.

Mejia gave up a run on two hits, but held one for his 17th save of the season Friday night.
After Friday's game, Mejia told reporters that his calf is still tight, but that the injury does not matter. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Mets go back to him for a third consecutive day Saturday should another save situation arise.
Fri Aug 8 201418:24Jenrry Mejia: (Calf) Available Friday
Mejia (calf) will be available for Friday's game against the Phillies, ESPNNewYork.com reports.
Mejia complained of calf tightness Thursday, but he was able to throw off flat ground Friday afternoon and was thus deemed available for the opener against Philadelphia. He was even seen shagging fly balls during batting practice, so apparently it was just a minor issue for the Mets' closer.
Thu Aug 7 201417:26Mejia dealing with calf issue
Mejia is dealing with a calf issue, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Mejia pitched in Thursday afternoon's game, entering in the 12th inning and stranding two runners to preserve a 2-2 tie. He emerged with a bit of calf soreness, but it's currently unclear whether it will put his availability in jeopardy over the coming days. The ailment apparently prevented him from pitching multiple innings in Thursday's loss. Mejia just can't seem to get to 100 percent, as he was hampered by a sore back earlier this week.
Tue Aug 5 201417:27Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that Mejia (back) fine
Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that Mejia (back) is fine, Mike Vorkunov of the Star-Ledger reports.
Although he did not say so explicitly, Collins' words suggest Mejia will be available for Tuesday's series opener against the Nationals. Mejia admitted after Monday's outing, during which he allowed a run on two hits and a walk, that he was experiencing a bit of back tightness, but apparently it's not something that will cost the right-hander time.
