Tue Apr 23 201309:18Kevin Youkilis (back) could miss more time
Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated Monday night that Kevin Youkilis (back) could miss more time.
Youkilis didn't play Sunday and was a late scratch from Monday's lineup, so the Yankees will continue to monitor his progress. "He might be a couple of more days," said Girardi. "We'll see how he feels [Tuesday]. He felt good, then he went through BP and it tightened up a little bit. It is what it is, and we'll get through it."

Youkilis did not play in Sunday's series finale against the Blue Jays after making an early exit Saturday with lower back tightness. But it was never a major concern. The veteran third baseman is hitting .295/.368/.459 with two homers and nine RBI in 16 games this season.

Kevin Youkilis (back) is expected to get the day off Sunday against the Blue Jays.
"My guess is he is not a player [today]," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after Saturday's game. With Youkilis having been removed from Saturday's game with back tightness and Girardi's expressed intent to rest some of his starters, there's a good chance Youk gets a rest in the series finale.

Fri Apr 12 201322:11Youkilis has three hits in win over Orioles
Kevin Youkilis went 3-for-3 with an RBI single, a run scored and a walk in a win over the Orioles on Friday night.
Youkilis has hit safely in all nine games this season and is now hitting .424 (14-for-33) with seven RBI. The 34-year-old hasn't played in more than 122 games since 2009, so he's not a good bet to hold up for the whole year, but he's been a pleasant surprise for both the Yankees and fantasy owners thus far.

Sun Mar 17 201317:10Kevin Youkilis homers for Yankees
Kevin Youkilis delivered a two-run homer and an RBI double in the Yankees' 11-9 victory over the Pirates on Sunday.
Youkilis never homered in 57 at-bats in spring 2011 nor in 41 at-bats last spring, but he has three in 26 at-bats so far in his first Yankees camp. His fantasy stock has also improved a bit, largely because he went from being penciled in as a No. 6 or No. 7 hitter to the likely cleanup man with Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson down.

Fri Mar 8 201316:31Kevin Youkilis hitless versus Marlins
Making his first appearance in six days, Kevin Youkilis went 0-for-3 against the Marlins on Friday, leaving him hitless in six at-bats this spring.
The Yankees should just hold Youkilis out for the rest of the spring to make sure he doesn't join Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez on the disabled list. Better to be safe than sorry.

Wed Jan 16 201308:52Kevin Youkilis revamping batting stance
Kevin Youkilis plans to revamp his batting stance for 2013.
Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long suggested the changes after working with Youkilis last week and watching some video of his hitting from 2008. Known for having one of the most unique batting stances in the game, "Youk" will still have his top hand off his bat as he gets ready to swing, but he plans to have his hands lower and his legs wider apart while being in more of a crouch. The 33-year-old batted .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs and .745 OPS last season and will handle third base duties with the Bombers until Alex Rodriguez is ready to return from hip surgery.

It should be a nice fit for him in New York, where he'll start at third base until Alex Rodriguez returns from mid-January hip surgery. "Youk" hit .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI in 122 games this past season between the Red Sox and White Sox.

Mon Dec 10 201216:20Dodgers put Youkilis on backburner
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Dodgers have put Kevin Youkilis on the "backburner"
Luis Cruz currently projects to open the season as the Dodgers' third baseman, so we wouldn't rule it out, but it's more likely he ends up elsewhere. The Yankees appear to be the favorites at the moment and have reportedly offered him a one-year, $12 million deal. Cafardo hears that the Rangers could also be a possibility. The Indians haven't "closed the door" on Youkilis, even after signing Mark Reynolds.

Mon Dec 10 201209:12Indians could still sign Kevin Youkilis
According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians have "not closed the door" on signing Kevin Youkilis even after the Mark Reynolds signing.
He notes, though, that the reported two-year, $18 million offer they've made to Youkilis has not been on the table for "quite some time." The Indians needed to fill both the first base and DH slots, so they can conceivably bring on both players, but it doesn't sound terribly likely. The Yankees seem to like the favorites to land Youkilis, though the Mariners and Dodgers are also showing interest.

Sun Dec 9 201220:39Mariners, Dodgers interested in Youkilis
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mariners and Dodgers have shown interest in Kevin Youkilis.
The Indians are expected to withdraw their two-year offer for Youkilis following the signing of Mark Reynolds, but there's at least two other teams in the mix with the Yankees. Youkilis is reportedly "still in the process of deciding what he's going to do" and has no timetable for a decision. The 33-year-old is willing to discuss both short-term and multi-year deals this winter after batting .235/.336/.409 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI last season in 122 games between the Red Sox and White Sox.
