Tue May 8 201218:44Scott Downs (knee) expects to be ready Wed.
Scott Downs (knee) reported feeling "good" after throwing several pitches off a mound Tuesday.
Downs expects to be available Wednesday. With youngster Jordan Walden struggling, the veteran lefty has been pegged as the Angels' temporary ninth-inning man and needs to be owned in most fantasy leagues.

Sun May 6 201218:37RP Downs leaves game after twisting his knee
Scott Downs left Sunday's game against the Blue Jays during a save opportunity when he twisted his knee avoiding a J.P Arenciba line drive.
LaTroy Hawkins -- and not Jordan Walden -- was brought in to convert the two-out save with a 4-3 lead and a runner on. Hopefully Downs' injury isn't serious, but we'll have to wait for an update on his status. The veteran southpaw replaced Walden as LA's closer late last month and hasn't yet allowed a run this season. Hawkins, who owns a 1.08 ERA, would be the favorite for saves if Downs misses time. Newly-acquired Ernesto Frieri -- who tossed a scoreless eighth inning Sunday -- would also be a candidate. The Angels appear to not want to put Walden back into the ninth-inning role just yet.

Sat Apr 28 201218:20Downs notches first save of season
Scott Downs notched his first save of the season Saturday by tossing a scoreless inning against the Indians.
After the Angels suffered back-to-back painful walk off losses, Downs had a pretty uneventful 1-2-3 ninth inning Saturday, including a swinging strikeout of Carlos Santana. It's not clear how long the Angels intend to keep former closer Jordan Walden in a set-up role, but Downs is worth owning in all formats for now.

Fri Apr 27 201217:17Scott Downs moved into closer role for Halos
Scott Downs will handle save chances for the Angels now that Jordan Walden has been demoted to a set-up role.
The move appears to be a temporary one, but Downs is immediately a must-own in fantasy leagues. The 36-year-old lefty has yet to allow a run in seven innings this season and had a 1.34 ERA and 35/15 K/BB ratio over 53 2/3 innings last year.

"We're looking good," said Downs. "We're gaining progress. I don't think there's a timetable, but every day it's getting better, so hopefully that just makes it a day sooner." Downs avoided a DL stint when an MRI on Friday revealed no ligament damage to his right ankle. Hisanori Takahashi and Brad Mills will function as left-handed options out of the bullpen in the short-term.

Fri Apr 13 201217:37Downs says ankle feels 'much better'
Scott Downs said Friday that his right ankle feels "much better" than it did Thursday.
Downs was diagnosed with a right ankle contusion after having his foot stepped on by Twins' outfielder Denard Span while covering first base. He's still dealing with some soreness, but hopes to test it on Saturday. It's possible he'll avoid the disabled list.

Fri Apr 13 201211:58Downs (ankle) unlikely to require DL stint
An MRI of Scott Downs' injured ankle revealed no ligament damage, and the Angels lefty is not expected to require a trip to the disabled list.
He's day-to-day with a "bruise." That leaves a struggling Hisanori Takahashi as the Halos' only lefty specialist for this weekend's series with the Yankees. Downs has allowed just two hits in 2 1/3 scoreless innings through his first three appearances.

Downs hasn't appeared in a game since last Friday, but he threw a bullpen and did agility drills Wednesday without any issues. It's good news for the Angels, as they need all hands on deck if they want to put a dent in the Rangers' lead.
